  • skunks takin it too the streets beret....76 - 78 my mind is fried

  • Just great! Can't touch the original Santo and Johnny recording, but what can? Ventures and Jeff "Skunk" Baxter are virtuousos and blend marvelously.

By the way, Baxter has long been a consultant to the Pentagon. No joke. He's a self-taught expert on defense systems . . . and kind of a hawk.

  • Thanks for this one man, The skunk and nokie still floor me! Baxter is a monster!!

  • no me gusta cuando cambian la versionn

  • wow.... who better than Baxter to play that pedal !!.....Awesome!

  • Gotta have the truth, Ruth...

  • Thanks for posting this! I didn't even know Jeff "Skunk" Baxter even played lap steel (or that he played it enough to own a double-necked lap steel with his name across the front).

  • 43 people must have been sleepwalking when they hit dislike!

  • Magnificent! These people have created a classic.

  • pure genius!

  • UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

  • i think that's "skunk rogers" from the doobie joint brothers. know it's not frank zappa or blind mellon jefferson boogie bones.

  • @SuperFirewire1 It's Jeff "skunk" Baxter

  • Igor brought me here :)

  • WaaaaaaW

  • what the name this guitar?

  • Yes man, this is best version of this song.

  • Its strange but considering he was and has been the lead guitarist of the most succesful and longest lasting instrumental guitar band Noki is a tremendously underrated guitarist amongst the rock generation and younger. When it comes to melodic playing few can match him. He does things so well they look easy a good trick unlike so many rock guitarist who do easy things and pose and make them look hard.

  • Ain't that the guy from Steely Dan? Pretty cool.

  • this is epic

  • Listen to this version over and over, better than the origin version and I've been arournd since the beginning of Rock N' Roll

  • Riiiiiiccccchhhhhiiiiiiiiiieeeee!

  • it´s a great version, but diferent to original, i like any way, thanks to upload good music. greetings from mexico saludos bandaaa!!!

  • Oh comon where is Santo and Johnny during all this debauchery.

  • what kind of fuckin idiots would dislike this

  • Great performance!

  • Great performance!

  • 43 people accidently hit the thumbs down tab. Something they just have to live with. :(

  • Beautiful.

  • That was just Awesome 100% thumbs up

  • I remember the first time I heard Sleep Walk bt Santop & Johnnie Back in 1959 in my bedroom in Cedar Grove, NJ and was stopped in my tracks by the beauty of the instruimental, but you know I like this version better.

  • Damn Skunk Baxter and Steely Dan! Awesome!

  • great, very good !! Thk.

  • The tempo is too fast.

  • The Skunkster going from Doobie's to sleep walks to missile defense. That's one heck of a resume.

  • Jeff did a great job of a different steel guitar interpretation for this tune.

  • Yeah!

  • EXCELENTE,,,,,,,,,

  • this song is super good that steel player ripped that steel guiter in half hell of a great job

  • "sleepwalk" c'est pour moi la meilleur music au monde

  • Wonderful... That's music!

  • Some ppl just knew they should be professional musicians.

  • the slide work is wonderful, bass and drums got a little carried away tho so the serene vibe never was there

  • thanks for posting nokie, great memories!

  • @newton296 Listen people I lovee the ventures. But do not take a beautiful peaceful song and hammer it!

    Sincerely,

    your x gogo girl

  • it doesn't get any better than this....thanks so much for posting....it's music history

  • dude playing the slide has a sweet ass calculator watch on

  • @mrfunk1979 "dude" is Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter, formerly of the Doobie Brothers (where he played steel, regular guitar and DRUMS!). Before that he played on Steely Dan records including "Reelin' Thru The Years." As far as comparing it to the original...........so what? Why does every "rendition" have to be faithful to the original. That would be boring.

  • @KayJayHP nice

  • Play guitar with the Ventures albums allowed me to learn guitar. Thank you so much from many, many people

  • My music teacher used to play that instrument at :10 whats it called??

  • @NaiJorJul Pedal Steel Guitar

  • @Breatherable thank you

  • 1:33 is that love I feel or just lovely moths supping upon my tummy acids?

  • musicas inesquecíveis e maravilhosas,bons tempos

  • Hey nokie man, thanks for posting these Ventures vids.

I learned to play guitar thanks to listening to my Mom's old venture tapes.

  • I agree - Santo & Johnny version is a lot better...!

  • If you like the Santo & Johnny version of " Sleepwalk ", you won't like the Ventures version . Even though they were good musicians they ruined a nice instrumental by jazzing it up. With the technical recording equipment they have now they could do Sleepwalk on a non-pedal steel and a good full band playing the original melody and have a hell of a nice instrumental and dance song. It can also be played original on the pedal steel as well.

  • love the ventures ah ha jeff skunk baxter also good music

  • Ventures forever!!! There will never be another group as good as you!!

  • Oh yes!!!

  • RITCHIEEEEEE!!!!!

  • Its easy to see they were having Fun with this song !!I like when a Band takes Liberties with a song, and adds their own embellishments!! Sounded Great! Peace

  • wow

    so love this

    ty

  • la bamba movie;}

  • Nice version just enough departure from Santo & Johnny to make the song theirs as well!

  • i cant scream to ritchie at this song......nope wouldnt sound right....jk i still love this song

  • Too fast.....

  • Ha! Jeff Baxter is such a dork! ...I hope he doesn't shoot missles at me

  • I fee like making love in Hawaii.

  • Jeff Baxter on steel!

  • @fstrc02 Damn, you're right! Skunk Baxter of Doobie Brothers fame.

  • @sneha1965 you mean Steely Dan ;-)

  • @notvalidcharacters You are right to mention Steely Dan, however he did play with TDB's after that.

  • @sneha1965 Sure, but why not give him credit for his grownup stuff.

  • @notvalidcharacters By all means ;-)

  • @sneha1965 ..and of Steely Dan fame...

  • @sneha1965 And Steely Dan

  • Too fast!! What's the rush??

  • nokie is the shit for uploading these vids.

  • A little to fast for my taste. I like it as a slow song.

  • I'm gunna be Jeff Baxter for Halloween!

  • TOO FAST. NO EMOTION.

  • @RubenRedd Just because it's "fast" doesn't mean it's without emotion.

  • Johnny and Santo blow these guys away

  • @mkimmick61 I love the Ventures, one of my favorites, but you are very right, Baxter on the steel can't hold a candle to Santo Farina. Just because I like the Ventures doesn't mean they do everyting right (lol). This is one of the wrongs.

  • Skunk!!

  • such a relaxing song

  • I listen to these guys about once a month. My inspiration in the sixties.

  • While the steel guitar is featured w/ Skunk Baxter as guest, it The Ventures Nokie Edwards that shines.

  • Its been a long time since I heard "The Ventures" play this........great job and thanks for posting.

  • Originals; better ;}

  • wonder how much one of those guitar things cost

  • @superjoe342 Yes he sucks real bad and he was going to ask YOU to fill in for him but you wouldn't answer his calls...LOL

  • impresionante ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • UMMM,SANTO & JOHNNY DO iiT BETTER!!

  • Holy shit, this is fucking hilarious.

  • kind of goes off the rails at the halfway mark. Jeff Stunk Baxter.

  • I love this version!

  • Nothing Compared to Santos And Johnny's Version but something compared to all the other crappy Remakes 5 Stars for the old YouTube and one Like for the new YouTube

  • I can die now. This is so incredible. Thanks!

  • This is on BADASS song!!!!

  • W/ Skunk Baxter on Slide, nice!!

  • @PeteyHop Thanks for the name drop, I was wondering, because it initially visible in the description. this guy is obviously a guru. And to the OP... Thank you VERY MUCH!

  • sounds nicer on a steel guitar. Loved Santo & Johnny's version but this is nice as well. It's sort of up-dated

  • That's Right. The only way this song sounds right is on the PEDAL STEEL

  • i love this song, is so beautiful...makes me fly =)

  • master!!!

  • nice calculator watch lol

  • the original version cannot be beat.

  • Fuck yes to this.

  • LLORAR!!! PT QUE BUENA MELODiA!

  • wow that brown guitar is fugly....other than that this vid is fantastic!

  • Which Doobie You Be???

  • Great job...but nobody can ever beat da original

  • 1:38 i like this

  • Looks like fun.

  • As noted, the pedal steel guitar is played by Jeff Skunk Baxter, known in on the high school track team (low hurdles) as "clot man," and known for the fastest growing hair at our school (when long hair was still controversial!). His first recording was with "Ultimate Spinach: out of, IIRC, Boston.

  • with this cover i dont feel anymore to SCREAM RITCHIE at the end !!! f- this

  • role the joint fuckas!!!

  • not as good as the original by far but ok job

  • Great cover! Anyone knows what the instrument is called?

  • @JiS01 Do you mean the steel guitar?

  • i lived in texas when i was a kid in the late 70s and this cat that lived in an apartment across the street used to play his steel guitar late at night and i just wish i could hear it again,i love the way it sounds and he was really good.

  • A really heartwarming rendition of a great song....I think this is a tad better than the Pete Drake version......This is just a super performance....many thanks for posting the song.....

  • The dude with the stash is Jeff Baxter. He played with Doobie Brothers and did studio work for Steely Dan. He's considered one of the best session guitarists alive. He's also wicked smart and has done engineering consulting for the USA Defense department.

  • The skunk do be fonky! Nice runs Nokie! I prefer the simpler original arrangement but this explores more possibilities with those country flavored steel licks. Nice harmonic on the end. Thanks for the upload.

  • He really really captures the spirit of this so beautiful theme

  • Its a bluegrass guitar I think

  • what kind of instrument is that at 1:02??? REALLY WANNA LEARN@@!

  • Jeff is a fucking BRILLIANT human being.

  • que hermosa cancion, las palabras son aveces innecesarias para expresar un sentmiento

  • LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

  • Not santo, but good....

  • i still prefer the version of the shadows..its much more clearer and simplier..nevertheless its a good sound.

  • Amazing! One of the best versions for sure.

  • Trying to see what that guitar is that Nokie is playing. Looking at the humbucker setup it's probably a custom.

  • Featuring Mr. Jeff "Skunk" Baxter...mister MVP....He plays many instruments very well (one of the very few) He plays steel guitar, rhythm and lead guitar, congas and other percussion instruments, as well as drums, all very well. He also sings back up. This is a guy who was with Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers. Check him out on other Tubes....What a talent!

  • WHOA !!!! BAD ASS !!! DIG IT
