this song has an amazing story about young boy from winnipeg named david milgard. after 23 years in jail for somthing he didnt do (murder), DNA came out and he was freed. i think he was only 17 when he was arrested too. he got millions of dollars when he came out.. but thats not enough for time. now he was a wife and kids, and he is a strong advocate against the death sentence, for obvious reasons....

It's not that he doesn't want to sing the song, Gord just sings differently when he performs live. He's not being lazy, he's just doing what he always does, delivering an original show.
