I love the premise but this game is really horrible and unfair (at least the version on Taito Legends 2 is) and then when I finally got to the end the boss wasn't there and it just ran out of time. Either the game was broken or I didn't beat it the right way.
The last boss doesn't appear on it's own, there are two statues on either side of the stage where he's supposed to be, you have to hit and destroy both statues with your prayer beads, doing so brings out Emma, the final boss.

Starnge game, but fantastic, the last boss is really tough, lots of fireball dodging.
