you could get a bushnell trs 25 for under 100.00 dollars i have one on my smith & wesson m&p 15-22 and one on my m&p 15 5.45x39 with a .83 riser mount to co witness with my iron sights they are great littel scopes for the money and look like a clone of the aimpoint scopes for 600.00 dollars and a 150.00 dollars for the riser i used a utg riser for 8.00 dollars shipped so riser and scope i am still under 100.00 dollars just some food for thought
So what was the verdict? They work or not? I just picked up the
Tasco ProPoint 1x30MM Red Dot Scope off Ebay for around $40. From the research i did and reviews this was a safe bet.(I hope) I normally use iron sights will all my firearms but for a fun plinker why not!? Especially with .22 LR if the price is right. And they look bad ass on the 15-.22s
BSA isn't bad, but stay away from Barska. Very poor quality, lots of negative reviews on the web. If you want to spend a bit more, take a look at the Vortex Strikefire (Aimpoint clone) and the Bushnell Trophy Red Dot sight (Trijicon clone). Both are priced at $150, and they are very good sights for the money. Be safe and have a Happy New Year!
this is actually a great red dot scope. i have mounted on my Romanian ak . it was real quick to sight in. i have only fired 150 rounds out of it so far because i only had time to sight it in. the dot does not move around when shooting. i have left the red dot on for over 12 hours on setting 11 and when i had realized that it was on.the red dot battery had started to die out but the red dot was still visible as if it was set to a setting of one. but thankfully i have plenty of batteries.
I shoot unscoped most always I do have a 22 with the front sight broken,so I put a scope on it,oh and I got a Tru Glo red dot sight for my crossbow, but havnt put it on yet.But youre right one shouldnt depend on em,it dont take alot to bump em out of zero, and then I wont even get into these systems with multi batteries.
the inexspensive ones are harder too use because they suffer from parralax while themore expensive ones don,t which means you need a GREAT cheek weld to use them without a front iron sight to line up on
I completely agree with you on the use of iron sights. I have a Benjamin Discovery .22 cal PCP air rifle with great fiber optic irons. I am in the same situation right now. I have great difficulty working with a scope so i figured I would step down to a red dot and see what happend. How does it work on that whisper?
Thank you sir, you taught me something I did not know but was curious about and that was how big are they in your hand. Cheers and keep up the good work.
If you like the idea of red-dots, and are putting it to some 'semi' rough usage(i.e. centerfire rifle, pistol, and even SHOTGUN!!), obviously for 'combat' you might be better off w/an Aimpoint or EoTech. But, the Bushnell TRS-25 has RAVE REVIEWS as a PRETTY EXCELLENT >$100 red-dot, was thinking of trying one for my 930 SPX 12 gauge? Talked w/guy using for same gun... It's still good after almost a year, Bushnell's warranty is also PRETTY GOOD I hear! Thanks for testing 'em in this vid man!!
I have that BSA scope mounted on a stagg M3 (ar15) works good holds zero @ 100 yards. I got it for my dad cuz like you he is getting old and has bad eyes haha. He never used one before but has decided he likes it so next year Imma get him an aimpoint :)
@jonislow i actually just returned from infantry training and your words on iron sights stand true for me as well. however if you have a good optic cheap or expensive and you can zero that too. as long as youve got those irons zeroed, id say stick with the optics and have the irons as a secondary. i personally loved the CCO that we used on our m4's i shot a 38/40 on my qualification with it. targets up to 300 meters. they are worth it id invest
Jonis, I dont use red dots on rifles but let me know how they are. I myself prefer the Iron sights or a scope. A scope is more reliable in my honest opinion than a red dot. Sure it may be abit on the bulky side but its alot more accurate. By the way, your not getting old.....your body is...but the mind will never age. good to see your still making videos man. ^_^
@XKERNURSE it "seams" like the younger you are the worse you're spelling is. But it's alright, we are all human and none of us are perfect. Good health in the future.
@jonislow But it doesn't matter how old or young you are, grammar is still a problem among everyone. You used the wrong, "your". For the use you were using it for, it should be, "the younger you are, the worse *your* spelling is", and not, "the younger you are the worse you're spelling is". Common mistake, but I did like your video. I too am a firm believer in the standard Iron Sights, but sometimes, I like a little magnification.
Just came across your youtube channel and really enjoyed this video. Good job at describing the red dot scopes. Thanks for posting and sharing with us.
hey man you are a great person for putting up these videos and i was wondering where did you get both of your rifles? they both look pretty cool to me and also how much did they cost. thank you and please get back to me whenever you can.
DUDE! Is that a tear drop tattoo under your eye? I'm watching this on my blackberry so the graphics are kinda smuggy. So no hard feelings if its not. Anyways nice vid, I have a BB/ pellet gun I just bought and I think it has a rail for that so I might get a red dot sight.
Good info. I have trouble with my eyesight too. I use one of these (BSA) on my Olympic AR-15 A-2 style with handle. I have an adapter rail with a knurled nut that attaches to the handle and places the rail forward of the carry handle. This particular rail places the dot in the center of the peep which works great. FYI I have the model with the "rubber armor coat". This coating does NOT hold up to being stored in a case that has been sprayed with anti rust spray. It gets very goopy and sticky.
good video, Also check out the Tasco Red Dot sight. Have them at wal mart for 30 bucks. And also they have the Centerpoint Red/Green dot sight for i think around 32 bucks.
@ChrisONGuitar1 Chris, it's ok to make a mistake but to apologize for it shows character. That's humble of you and not many people could come back and do it. Thank you.
Hello from a fellow red dot owner. i have a TruGlo red dot, inexpensive. i like this video because you have humility, unlike 99% off scope/red dot owners, you do not come across as "hey LOOK at me, i'm great!!" you are honest, and you did a good job on this video. hey- i just ordered a barska scope. coming 6/18/10. i have that S&W M&P 15-22, and it loves red dots and compact scopes for a tactical look. Let me ask you a question- how well is the Barska made/quality in you opinion? thanks-great!!
none of my firearms have ever used scopes, I'm afraid that I won't like a higher power scope like a 4x or 3-9x, and am having a hard time finding a 1-4x in my area, I am considering ordering from online to get a 1-4x32 scope or I'm thinking of a red dot. I found a barska 1x30 red dot, it fits 3/8" - 5/8" rails, would that work on my .22 and then on a larger hunting gun later? Am I on the right path seeking a 1x sight or a lower magnification scope? Most shooting will be at less than 100 yds.
i love red dots for cqb. when your back in california hit me up and we can go get some rattle snakes in the summer. or some wild turkeys in the winter. i know the perfect spots.
i'll definitely check it out. Guns have been in my life a lot longer than swords! I just got into swords last year, but guns since I was about 8 yrs old! I have many, many interests.
I haven't made up my mind yet if I like them, first time trying 'em. I think it will be a lot like open sights but just illuminated. But there's no disputing accuracy and scopes!
my vision is getting worse too. im 15 and im really not liking the thought that i have to use glasses. i got them last year but my vision seems to be getting worse : ( unfortunately i didnt go hunting this year(i dont even know why) but i think next year i will go. i think maybe i should try to use my red-dot on my shotgun. i have a special mount that allows me to use a scope or red- dot. i took it off just for looks but i think it would help for hunting.
you could get a bushnell trs 25 for under 100.00 dollars i have one on my smith & wesson m&p 15-22 and one on my m&p 15 5.45x39 with a .83 riser mount to co witness with my iron sights they are great littel scopes for the money and look like a clone of the aimpoint scopes for 600.00 dollars and a 150.00 dollars for the riser i used a utg riser for 8.00 dollars shipped so riser and scope i am still under 100.00 dollars just some food for thought
