@Nooberatoor OK, we need to ind out the TCC code number. That'll be a big help. Grab a code scanner or reader and scan your vehicle. They're cheap to buy about $50 or so. Post back with the DTC or code number. TO pass inspection you'll have to fix this issue. It may be electronic or not, depends on the code. Hope to hear from you....Good luck.
Hello there, I have a Honda civic, 2D automatic, year 1998 & I took it to get the inspection but they told me to run 49 miles as I just got the car. After about 10 or 20 miles on the freeway, the engine light came on. The guy at the inspection play put the computer thing and TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID came big on screen. Any help?
@ADPTraining Hi, i have a Nissan Maxima 2000. I have the check engine light on and the scanner says that the TCC clutch solenoid valve is malfunctioning. The car shifts smooth when i'm not hard on the throttle, but when i throttle it seems like the transmission does not lock up from 2nd to 3rd gear. It takes a little bit to shift to 3rd gear from 2nd gear. I just changed the fluid but the symptom still. Overdrive is working fine. Do you think i should change the solenoids? Thanks! :)
@gajahesu Absolutely NOT. The TCC is meant for fuel economy. The TCC locks the converter and is essence meshes the engine and trans together. If the TCC is stuck open, the engine will stall when you come to a red light. TCC has no effect of shifting. It lock on when cruising on the freeway. It is disengaged and inactive during shifting. Impossible to know, but from the sound of it, your trans may need more complex work done to it. Make sure they changed trans filter as well. Let me know.
I can tell you it is NOT the TCC or solenoid. The TCC may cause engine to stall or cause low fuel efficiency. First check fluid level. You symptoms are synonymous with low fluid level. If not, then there are many reasons for those symptoms. I don't recommend doing a fluid change. If you do the trans may never shift again and need a rebuild. Good luck.
My car is a 2001 pontiac grand prix GT. its got the 3800 series II engine in it and is having torque converter problems I BELIEVE. most of the time its just a hard shift here and there but it also has problems reconfiguring if i am hard on the throttle and then lay off or reapply the throttle in cornering, when it revs around 5k before reengaging the clutch if i dont lay off right away. is it the torque convereter? is there anything i can do to fix theese probelems or is it the transmition going

maybe you can help me. I have a 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0L Northstar. The tranny is stuck in 2nd. did not slip or anything, ran fine one day then the next the check engine light come on and would not shift. can you help or should i junk the car?
@g64870c No, why junk the car, unless it's run down. First check the fuse that feeds all the solenoids. ONE fuse feeds everyone in the trans. 2nd gear is the natural (all solenoids off) gear that the vehicle reverts to (limp-in mode). If fuse is good, then check wiring. If good then the TCM or ECM is setting LIM, at which point you'll need a scan tool to continue. Let me know and post some more.
@lindseynorton28 Yes it is. I would to know the model and engine number of your Cadillac. On some, all it takes is the removal of the trans oil pan. On other models you'd have to remove the valve body. Keep us posted on your issue and we'll help out as best as possible. Thanks so much for posting...
@ADPTraining pertaining to your response my caddy is a 2001 coupe deville with the 32 valve 4.6 liter automatic. i am hoping you say it is inside the tranny so i can replace it myself. hopefully i gave u the info u needed to answer my question
@lindseynorton28 Replacing the shift solenoids (there are 2) is an easy job, they are in the lower pan, but the lower control valve must come off and there are a few check balls that must go back correctly. Before you do this, check power feed. The ECM provides ground to activate. Go slow and keep me posted... Good luck...
@theASEtech Today's PCMs have flash memory. This means that the entire program that runs the engine can be replaced. In the old days you replaced the whole PCM or the Chip. No you re-flash them. You need re-programming equipment for that. Each manufacturer has it's own. If your vehicle is 2006 and up then you can use a generic equipment. You still need to purchase the program file from the manufacturer. Hope that helps...
"these are the only types of controll schemes imployed" no on late 70's to mid 80's TH200-4R and 700-4R transmissions (GM) There is a controll valve that is regulated by spring tention and fluid pressure, depending on the level of ECU controll over the TCC. In the case of bypassing the ECU with a variable lockup controller kit the controll spring on the valve should be removed.
And the car doesn't have problems downshifting, or shifting at all. It doesn't lock up when coming to a stop.

the tcc where is located? inside the transmission?

@12345marco12 Yes, it usually is. Depending on the make, some are easily located by removing the trans oil pan. Thanks for posting.

Why apply power on the ground side and probe on the control side? Wouldn't this damage the tcm/pcm? Or do you mean to disconnect the wire first?
