stop arguing over tampa bay, nashville, and Carolina, they are are successful teams. now lets focus on the phoenix coyotes. do you think hockey belongs in the desert. of course you don't. so lets get the phoenix coyotes to become the HARTFORD WHALERS.
There is no other place in the United States that can support a team-Seattle is too close to vancouver and they have a whl team. Hartford might work but they are close to boston. A team in North Dakota could work but the population might be too low
im a american in buffalo and i hate all the southern teams they dont go to there games ever keep the game up north its where it was born and will be loved for ever
phoenix to quebec, florida to hamilton and nashville to missisauga and everything will be fine then ! i wish all the best to jets ! go canada go ! (greeting from slovakia)
Milwaukee and Seattle could probably handle a team, too. Send Dallas and Tampa Bay up north. Anaheim could do better in Saskatoon. They'd sell out every game there. Well we're at it, let's also send Carolina to New England... maybe Hardford? We could call them the Whalers...
@Firebomber7 I would LOVE for an NHL team to happen in Milwaukee. Get a NHL owner to come over and build that arena that the Bucks are looking for and have the team. Chance of that are slim to none though.
I was a diehard Atlanta Thrashers fan and honestly Im excited to see this team finally get support. This group is more talented than given credit for.. I can't wait to ride on with the team as they travel to Winnepeg.. Progress towards the cup starts @ 4 tomorrow and I'll be tuned in on Versus and hope to make my way up to the peg to catch a game this year.
How sad it is that HNIC commentator Don Whitman is no longer with us and especially since he was a Winnipeg native and would have jumped at the chance to be the voice of the new Winnipeg team, whether they're named the Thrashers,Jets,Moose or whatever.
You only thought this was the last goal, looks like you'll have plenty more to come Winterpeg! I always have had a place in my heart for you and now your back! Go out and show Bettman he ducks as a commish. I'll be rooting for you, well at least when your not playing the Wings.

i'm a wings fan. funny, the wings were the last team to beat the jets and now they may be the last team phoenix loses to before they move back to winnipeg
bettman's a retard. take a team, a successful team, and move it to arizona. and then go out of his way to keep it there countless times after it loses 40 million a season. don't worry, winnipeg, your time is coming soon again! (from a leafs fan)
Here's what the NHL should do: Move the Islanders to Winnipeg (3 teams in New York is way too much), move the Panthers to Hamilton and move the Thrashers to Seattle (great hockey market). And then you give 2 expansion teams to Quebec City (of course) and Houston (the Aeros have a very good attendance and Houston is a strong TV market). Then you create 4 divisions of 8 teams split in two conferences of 16 teams each with the former division and conference names
I'm sorry if many Manitobans have to hear this but the Phoenix Coyotes are on the verge of staying in Phoenix after Matthew Hulsizer had been approved by the NHL to purchase the Coyotes and stay in Phoenix. It just makes me sad to not have another Canadian franchise, but do keep an eye on Atlanta since their struggling. The deal by Hulsizer hasn't beem 100% approved so do keep an eye on DEC 31ST 2010!

They only won the Stanley Cup 5 years ago and have struggled to fill the building 3/4 full since then.....And Tampa: How can you say they've been doing "good" when they have to fire their own mascot just to ensure they can pay their players and electricity bills? We'll see what Yzerman can do with that franchise however; their days are numbered without success. Winnipeg has / will support our Franchise success or not!
@JHendrix70 Thats just like the leafs, no matter we win or we lose we have a great fan base. Brand new jersey's for the home and away team this 10-11 year. besy designs on the jerseys and the leafs are the richest team in the nhl. so.. Leafs have the best fan base/ support so far in the nhl
@JHendrix70 yeah Carolina doesnt have a good fanbase, if you watch a sabres/canes game, its sad to see that the sabres fans are more noisy then the canes fans, i also think we might out number their fans too, but hey atleast winnipeg is getting a team, i think the American South is no place for hockey, maybe tampa bay, but places like flordia, and carolina, shouldnt have a team at all
@JHendrix70 it doesnt matter if the team is doing good or not. that has nothing to do with anything. the team could win the cup 37 years in a row, but if nobody is going to the games, theyre going to get moved. phoenix made the playoffs and theyre still in trouble. its the ability to support a hockey team that matters. theres more market in winnipeg than atlanta. fact.
@JHendrix70 Canes are doing well. It's nearly as ingrained in our city of Raleigh as our college sports (with the exception of basketball), and our fanbase is constantly growing, if a little fairweather. Tampa does well as long as they have stable ownership (OK Hockey nearly ruined it, though), and Nashville now has a large and growing fanbase, especially during the current NFL lockout.
@JHendrix70 Come on Carolina is doing great on attendance! but don't forget when we won the cup in 05-06 it was only our 8th season. but attendance has only dropped in the past two years by a small margin.
@JHendrix70 actually you are wrong about Carolina. Attendance is middle of league. No struggles here. Being a season ticket holder I actually feel more passion in the building more and more each year.
@beaverdammer im saying i love tampa and canada is great but i never want to see hockey leave tampa i love it so much it is one of my favorite places to go. but fuck the panthers lol
@beaverdammer thank you for this comment. For being honest and respectful instead of just assuming that those teams are automatically shitty because of where they are. You are right. The Jets would and are gonna be more successful. Like you said, bottom line is that it is in Canada.
Too bad I was barely born to see the jets play, the year after I was born, they moved, now I'm a leaf fan, and bomber fan they rock but if the jets were still here I would be the happiest person on earth and so would Winnipeg and the NHL
Back in the day, the Winnipeg arena was the place where all the jets fans would hang out to watch hockey, but now it is a place for bombers fans to leave their cars.
But I heard the city is going to demolish Canad Inns stadium, where the bombers play, after they build a new one near the university of Manitoba.
No, we now have the new NHL Approved MTS Centre in downtown Winnipeg. The old Arena has been demolished as sad as that is. It was a great building, lots of memories but, we needed something new for the NHL's return & have it now!
chicago here, I really hope you guys get your team back. one question though, would they be called the jets again? or are there ownership rights or some shit? it wouldn't be the same to me if they came back, which would be great don't get me wrong, but not the same if they aren't called THE JETS again!
@nhlninetyfour Depends upon who moves. It only will be the Jets if Phoenix moves; they own the name, logo, and records of the Jets (as well as retired numbers)
Cities like Phoenix, Atlanta, and Tampa should have started out with a major junior team, or maybe get an expansion team from the ECHL or something like that. Test the water first, and see how it does. If it takes off, then yeah... Push for an NHL team. It's no wonder some of these franchises are going belly up. It's like driving a car without test driving it first. C'mon Bettman...
Expand in Canada...this coming from a guy down in North Carolina. I'm one of the ones that respects where the sport was born and especially where MY team came from.
Our 8-yr old son and I were there. He contributed five bucks from his paper route money to keep them here. We still have the receipt. But it didn't work, and the money went to charity, i guess.
@Mahes46 Funny thing is, I live in the States and I agree with you. You'll get more teams considering Bettman's Sun Belt experiment is blowing up in his face. First Atlanta, Phoenix will be next.
JHendrix, I thank you for all of these great video posts. I am a Winnipegger and was nine years old when the Jets left. I miss them as much as anybody. However, I am getting sick and tired of "Go Jets Go' chants at completely irrelevant times and The whole notion of "Bring 'Em Back is really stupid to me. I'd like an expansion team or another franchise before "bringin 'em back". And they shouldn't be the Jets. It just wouldn't be the same.
Well, while that would be extreme ( as we are not known as a "violent nation" ) I personally would accept Bettman to just realize his mistakes, apologize, and leave his position while someone who actually GREW UP with the Game of hockey, and understands its importance to Canadian Culture takes over! ( Not to say there aren't amazing American cities; there certainly his however; this is a Canadian game and needs a Canadian in charge!
Let's just take a look at the league for a second. Florida and Phoenix are both struggling in this market and nobody gives a damn down there about hockey. Winnipeg and Quebec (Nordiques) have great atmospheres. I was born in 95' so I never got a chance to see them play. I want them back here because it's a better atmosphere here and this is where hockey lives! Plus, minor league hockey like OHL, WHL attendances are up, look for a franchise to be up here maybe in 5 years. Bring em Back!
true, and the Quebec Remparts has 7000 season tickets holders and they drew over 11000 per game during the past two regular seasons in average and their attendance figures are based on ppl attending the game at all, not tickets distributed (the reason their sellouts are always slightly under 15399). Keep in mind a Q season only got 68 games, though, but even then, I would be surprised if most sunbelt NHL teams did better if their attendance was calculated the same way.
Yes, hockey is big in Canada, but I think it is unfair to say that hockey is a canadian game. I live in the U.S., and I know plenty of Americans who love hockey. But I do agree that there should be a team in Winnipeg and not Phoenix. Arizona is not a hockey place. I would love to see the Jets and Nordiques come back someday.
richcaptain18, I excellent comment. Hockey should never be in Arizona or Florida. Those fans don't even know the rules of hockey. I would love to see hockey back in Winnipeg and Quebec. You rock.
You are actually quite right. Until music and school took over my life, I was a huge hockey fan, and had played for 11 years. The thing is though, I was only a Coyote fan for a few years. I had to stop watching them because they got so bad. The attendance is low, and most people don't even understand the game. If we hadn't just built a new building, I would be all for the franchise moving back to Winnipeg. You guys would sure value it a hell of a lot more.
@richiecaptain18 Replace Tampa, where it's starting to pick up thanks to a promising future (guys like Stamkos and Hedman) with Atlanta, where they have no star and can't draw shit (especially with Kovalchuk gone) and you have my ideal scenario. Oh, and also add Hartford to "want a team again".
@richiecaptain18 Phoenix and Florida I agree. But Tampa's not going anywhere since they're actually good. Also Atlanta. They should stop prolonging it and just move the Thrashers to Winnipeg or Hamilton or something. And what about Saskatoon? They've never had a team. Give them one.
I got Norm Maciver's autograph when he played at UMD- I was just a kid then, but I wrote him a letter along with a picture of him that was in the Tribune- he signed the picture and sent it back to me. He's a good man.
I live in Montana now and haven't been back to Duluth in 10 years- I miss the ice.
Great Video! Norm played college hockey in Duluth and still resides here, and little did I know answer to a great trivia question. Two NHL hockey teams in Florida and none in Manitoba, wtf!!! The last team to play in Atlanta left for Calgary maybe the current Atlanta team can head north to Winnipeg, they'd get sellout crowds and form the natural rivalry with Minnesota once again, heck we could revive the Norris Division lineup, Chicago, Minnesota, Detroit St Louis, Winnipeg...
I miss the jets...2 years after this game I moved to Vancouver...its just not right that winnipeg doesnt have an nhl franchise anymore, I hate seeing Winnipeg being reduced to a farm team city for the canucks
yeah some americans like hockey but honestly it should be more of a canadian based sport since it is your countries national pastime basically...i dont think there should be a hockey team in phoenix or dallas, florida or south california...they should replace those teams with canadian based teams
The Quebec Nordiques moved to Colorado, and Winnipeg's team was also moved, I think. I guess the teams were not making enough money in those cities, even if their arenas were filled.
This is somewhat true. I won't speak on behalf on Quebec however; Winnipeg was moved due to us not being able to secure a new Arena deal in "time". The issue was that the Jets owners only took in a small portion of revenue created at the Winnipeg Arena because they did not own the building. NOW: We have the Building & Suites in order to generate the revenue needed to support the NHL & more. It's only a matter of time before the NHL comes BACK to Winnipeg!
RIP Korolev.

This game brings back memories. Miss the Jets. Hope one day the NHL comes back to the Peg!

Jets were my favourite team, I remember this game, and I was only 5 when this happened, never really loved another nhl team after this.

C'mon Bettman...
drpkick82 2 years ago 4
True...I went to a game right before the playoffs a few years ago...so maybe that caused the crowd to be bigger than usual.
gocanes243 2 years ago
Expand in Canada...this coming from a guy down in North Carolina. I'm one of the ones that respects where the sport was born and especially where MY team came from.
gocanes93 2 years ago 6
Carolina is doing fine, so are the Preds and I went to a Tampa game once, it's really picking up there.
Phoenix, Florida, Atlanta are problems. NO ONE SHOWS UP.
Bettman is retarded, new commisoner please.
gocanes243 2 years ago
I agree however; not sure about Tampa. I once went and got 4 free tickets to the game because I rode a bike to the ticket office...
Then rode back to the truck and put them in the back for the drive home after the game. ;)

Our 8-yr old son and I were there. He contributed five bucks from his paper route money to keep them here. We still have the receipt. But it didn't work, and the money went to charity, i guess.
Maybe the Thrashers?

I hate last 10 years politics with this shit for new teams! Canada lost Nordiques and Jets . Who next?Calgari....Vancouver
Back in Quebec and in Winnipeg!!!
Kick off Nashville, Tampa, Phoenix, Florida.....
30 teams too many. Not enough players in the world for its. Too many europeans here! Ovechkin, Malkin now stars? Funny
Something wrong with hockey. In 60-70's they are would be only players of 2-3 lines
Where new real CANADIAN stars?
Fuck off this suckers who killing canadian game

I agree and disgree.
Kick out Phoenix, Florida, and Atlanta.
Move them to Winnipeg, Quebec and try some new market like Seattle or Houston.
Tampa and Carolina have Stanley Cups.
I have been to some Nashville games, and their fanbase has really picked up over the past few years.
BRING THE JETS BACK.

@Mahes46 Funny thing is, I live in the States and I agree with you. You'll get more teams considering Bettman's Sun Belt experiment is blowing up in his face. First Atlanta, Phoenix will be next.
BrewerCrazy32 7 months ago
all 3, 211 of them....bobster? Phoenix doesnt deserve a franchise.....its an NFL city....then NBA...not hockey.

Bring the NHL back though, we deserve it.

someone should behead Bettman.
jerrykurl69 3 years ago 2
Well, while that would be extreme ( as we are not known as a "violent nation" ) I personally would accept Bettman to just realize his mistakes, apologize, and leave his position while someone who actually GREW UP with the Game of hockey, and understands its importance to Canadian Culture takes over! ( Not to say there aren't amazing American cities; there certainly his however; this is a Canadian game and needs a Canadian in charge!
Bring'Em Back!
JHendrix70 3 years ago
Let's just take a look at the league for a second. Florida and Phoenix are both struggling in this market and nobody gives a damn down there about hockey. Winnipeg and Quebec (Nordiques) have great atmospheres. I was born in 95' so I never got a chance to see them play. I want them back here because it's a better atmosphere here and this is where hockey lives! Plus, minor league hockey like OHL, WHL attendances are up, look for a franchise to be up here maybe in 5 years. Bring em Back!
TheDragonPro 3 years ago 3
true, and the Quebec Remparts has 7000 season tickets holders and they drew over 11000 per game during the past two regular seasons in average and their attendance figures are based on ppl attending the game at all, not tickets distributed (the reason their sellouts are always slightly under 15399). Keep in mind a Q season only got 68 games, though, but even then, I would be surprised if most sunbelt NHL teams did better if their attendance was calculated the same way.
Bring Jets/Nords back!
DJOmnimaga 2 years ago
Yes, hockey is big in Canada, but I think it is unfair to say that hockey is a canadian game. I live in the U.S., and I know plenty of Americans who love hockey. But I do agree that there should be a team in Winnipeg and not Phoenix. Arizona is not a hockey place. I would love to see the Jets and Nordiques come back someday.
deshy88umkc 2 years ago 5
I was at that game, dressed in white of course...and I've hated the Red Wings ever since!
Toteek 3 years ago
I'd love the idea of Winnipeg having a team back. Maybe it'll come true once a-hole Bettman is out.
ElmerFudd16 3 years ago 3
if ur lakes dont freeze over in the winter u shoundnt be aloud to have a hockey team
cbj1mason 3 years ago 3
I hope Winnipeg gets a team again. And Quebec for that matter. No way Phoenix and Tampa and Sunrise, Florida, deserve teams.
richiecaptain18 3 years ago 17
richcaptain18, I excellent comment. Hockey should never be in Arizona or Florida. Those fans don't even know the rules of hockey. I would love to see hockey back in Winnipeg and Quebec. You rock.
LarrytheLumberjack 3 years ago 5
You are actually quite right. Until music and school took over my life, I was a huge hockey fan, and had played for 11 years. The thing is though, I was only a Coyote fan for a few years. I had to stop watching them because they got so bad. The attendance is low, and most people don't even understand the game. If we hadn't just built a new building, I would be all for the franchise moving back to Winnipeg. You guys would sure value it a hell of a lot more.
kfizzle441 3 years ago
This video shows exactly what it would look like in Winnipeg if they got a team back instead of empty seats galore in Glendale.
ElmerFudd16 3 years ago
@richiecaptain18 Replace Tampa, where it's starting to pick up thanks to a promising future (guys like Stamkos and Hedman) with Atlanta, where they have no star and can't draw shit (especially with Kovalchuk gone) and you have my ideal scenario. Oh, and also add Hartford to "want a team again".
NessMencesal 1 year ago
@richiecaptain18 Phoenix and Florida I agree. But Tampa's not going anywhere since they're actually good. Also Atlanta. They should stop prolonging it and just move the Thrashers to Winnipeg or Hamilton or something. And what about Saskatoon? They've never had a team. Give them one.
GOODPLAYA20 1 year ago
@GOODPLAYA20 Saskatoon nearly had the Blues in the mid-80s. Took a last-minute deal, I believe, to keep the team in St. Louis.
simpsonsfan2007 11 months ago

I got Norm Maciver's autograph when he played at UMD- I was just a kid then, but I wrote him a letter along with a picture of him that was in the Tribune- he signed the picture and sent it back to me. He's a good man.
I live in Montana now and haven't been back to Duluth in 10 years- I miss the ice.

Never to late to move back! ;)
Bring'Em Back
JHendrix70 3 years ago
Great Video! Norm played college hockey in Duluth and still resides here, and little did I know answer to a great trivia question. Two NHL hockey teams in Florida and none in Manitoba, wtf!!! The last team to play in Atlanta left for Calgary maybe the current Atlanta team can head north to Winnipeg, they'd get sellout crowds and form the natural rivalry with Minnesota once again, heck we could revive the Norris Division lineup, Chicago, Minnesota, Detroit St Louis, Winnipeg...
theaverageguys 3 years ago
I miss the jets...2 years after this game I moved to Vancouver...its just not right that winnipeg doesnt have an nhl franchise anymore, I hate seeing Winnipeg being reduced to a farm team city for the canucks

Markko144 3 years ago 5
well, not gonna happen as long as dear mr. buttman will the the NHL commissioner.
he says he wants to have Americans to like hockey.
fuck you dear mr buttman!
saucetomate4012 3 years ago 7
yeah some americans like hockey but honestly it should be more of a canadian based sport since it is your countries national pastime basically...i dont think there should be a hockey team in phoenix or dallas, florida or south california...they should replace those teams with canadian based teams
rockerduff1231 3 years ago
that ass-clown Bettmen wants to move a team the Las Vegas!?!?!?! Las Vegas barely supports Minor league sports.... What a fucking moron!
MrCool63 3 years ago
Kansas City too is considered. In the 70s the Kansas City Scouts had about 2000 fans a game until they moved to Colorado and became the Rockies
xlibman 3 years ago
Once Bettman leaves his office for good Winnepeg, Quebec and Hamilton will have their teams back and why not Regina.
Maxie1111 3 years ago
The Quebec Nordiques moved to Colorado, and Winnipeg's team was also moved, I think. I guess the teams were not making enough money in those cities, even if their arenas were filled.
QuieroGuerra 3 years ago
This is somewhat true. I won't speak on behalf on Quebec however; Winnipeg was moved due to us not being able to secure a new Arena deal in "time". The issue was that the Jets owners only took in a small portion of revenue created at the Winnipeg Arena because they did not own the building. NOW: We have the Building & Suites in order to generate the revenue needed to support the NHL & more. It's only a matter of time before the NHL comes BACK to Winnipeg!
Bring'Em Back!
