Government can raise all the taxes it wants, but the big oil companies would only pass it on to the consumers. Nothing whatsoever will ever cut into those gigantic profits they made.

They ALWAYS say that such-and-such will "kill jobs" like there's some magic jobs genie who'll DISAPPEAR automatically if we enact this regulation or that tax increase or get rid of some tax break. THE CORPORATE EXECUTIVES AND MANAGERS MAKE THOSE DECISIONS! IT's WITHIN THEIR DISCRETION. If the jobs are lost, it's THEIR fault for cutting them! Don't blame a policy. ugh

I assume the idea was to use "regular" people who are dumb enough to think this tax could put the oil companies out of business. They also must feel that, thanks to the Tea Party, these people are more likely to vote this November.
