I had the best seat in the house for this show - on the drum major podium. Thank you for posting. It brings back a lot of happy memories . . . a lot of changes in the music and show between Oceanside and DCI Finals.
@rbbbc132 Yeah, 88 and 89. In 88 they lost by tenths or a tenth (essentially got screwed), so they came back and did it again in 89 and proved that it should have won. Unfortunately, in 89 Phantom got screwed as a result of SCV's getting screwed the year before.
Hmmm I notice that the drum corps back then was more of high school marching band but with out the wood winds. But now its about crazy shows and lots of running around. I like this better, lol.
@neilyvanneily oh trust me buddy. I know DCI When I hear it,lol. I was saying its amazing how DCI changed over the years. The patterns reminds me of HS Marching band. Because of this I really enjoy looking at this. :D
I remember watching them practice during summer school, we were out there everyday watching them. It was the most amazing experience for me really appreciated the music and ive been an SCV fan ever since.
My hs played/marched to this the same exact year; brings back memories. While we were far from this calibre, we still placed respectably at regionals...to a suite tht was hella hard to play---much less march to. Still, Bravo to SCV 88-89! Awesome, full, brass, sick percussion, & precision marching! WOW! POTO & DCI classic's, no doubt.
They did a very very similiar show with the same phantom of the opera theme, but for 89 the changed the scoring of parts of the music and instruments used for the solos and I thought that the 89 show sounded alot better musically as well.
Man, am I REALLY glad they changed the end of the opener from this early season version. That ending was really lame, and the one they ended up with was one of the most effective I ever experienced in DC!

The cool things about this show is that I believe they are playing two valve G bugles. Good stuff :)

@Phostings1 Listen to how clean that snareline is. That is NOT the sound of a HS band!
