  • LOVE THIS SONG!!

  • Someone really special to me sent me this video. You have no idea how much that made me happy. :) <3

  • @TheGreat747 I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Hey I am just now hearing this song, incredible! I live in the Carolinas and this is considered a beach song. Lots of old soul music fits that bill like "Little Red Book" and "With this Ring". Great songs you can shag (dance) to. I belive I will listen to it one more time!

  • Whatever happened to the good old days. Last time I posted, I remembered the year, now, oh oh, I'm lost.. Thank You Moonstar.

  • @MsSeptember8 My pleasure!

  • Whatever happened to the good old days. Last time I posted, I remembered the year, now, oh oh, I'm lost..

  • A great "feel good" song. Love those Platters !!

  • I was in Jr. Highschool and it was near the end of the school year and we lived on the 14th flr. in the projects in the Bronx facing NJ and the air was clear, there was a breeze, it was 8am, I was looking out the window and this song came on and I was in love! when you're 14, any sweet, beautiful song that came on the radio BAM! you're in looooove! And this was truly a sweet beautiful song!!!!!!!! Thank you.

  • @early60srcool - Love hearing those memories!

  • @early60srcool ....AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH RUTH !!!......A GREAT SONG

  • The Platters with a Detroit R&B feel!!

  • this song isnt all the original Platters, Zola Taylor isnt on this record, she left The Platters in 1964, she was replaced By Barbara Randolph who left the group to record at Motown

  • yes this song was rec 30 yrs b4 i was born but dag i love it

  • Beautiful!!! TY

  • one of my favorite songs ever

  • Yes, it is Nate Nelson of the Flamingos..once known as the "Voice of Champagne", whatever that means. He isn't singing lead on this song but did front several cuts on the Platters' first few albums for Musicor around 1966-1967.

  • @local4news Nate Nelson was probably called that because of his lead vocal on "I Only Have Eyes For You"

  • neck & neck with the Drifters ...no losers and music lovers won!

  • The funk brothers moonlighted and made this recording for the platters, this and with this ring..

  • I have loved the Platters for over 40 years. Seeing the album cover here on YouTube was the first time I'd ever seen a pic of them.

  • What a great song! Love it!

  • ."did you read my letter? It's been on my mind..."

In my Top Ten! Thanks, Moonstar....Jan

  • This song was my first foray into the realm of love songs. My heart was broken from unrequited love. The year was 1966. I was 11 years old and in the sixth grade! I believe Arthur Conley put out another favorite of mine the same year - "Sweet Soul Music".

  • Platters: I love you! I love you! One thousand times. Thank you moonstar7. There is not substitution for real talent.

  • I just saw Milton Bullock tonight in Ayden. He was awesome.

  • One more thing - I do hope Sonny Turner received his share of what I shelled out for my "I Love You 1,000 Times" 45RPM because he sure as H deserved it! Ain't nobody could chime it like him! But about that $ thing...well, it's my guess that ol' Buck Ram done got there first...again

  • Very Confusing to show the Original line up when None of the people shown in the pictures are singing on this song..the lead is Sonny Turner not Tony Williams why is Tony Williams picture and zola taylor who were Gone by this time..it only confuses who actually sang on this record and it wasnt any of the folks shown above.

  • @blkshepherd So true! I wish they would give Sonny Turner credit! He sings so much smoother but truly just deserves the credit for singing this one!

  • I just love this song from back in the day the Platters is one of my favorite groups.

  • The Platters...Rule!

  • Thats right im doing a report on them.

  • My first party in the sixth grade. I danced to this song and the lyrics and music made me the confident singer, lyric master I am today! Thanks for posting!

  • Still tugs at my heart, wonderful lyrics ever...

  • This is the most beautiful song i have ever heard it makes my eyes water from the first time i heard it 40 years ago!

  • @treygoff ...Well said.....a great one !

  • @treygoff

I can remember coming into my teen years going into the 7th grade listening to this song on my first transistor radio listening to this on kdia, everytime I heard it I flipped I used to walk around singing this and others as well,

  • @kennethray220 I can relate totally.

  • @kennethray220 : me too!! KDIA and KSOL when Sly Stone used to DJ there!!

  • LET ME DROP SOME HOLLA ON YOU, this is not the original Platters. the lead singer is Charles "Sonny" Turner of cleveland, ohio. he inspired Charles Hatcher aka Edwin Starr. to tell the truth, Sonny inspried everybody at Kennard Jr. High, and Central Jr. Hi, including Bobby Womack. DJ EDDIE FREEZE... JUST KEEPIN' THE FLAME LIT

  • This is, without a doubt, my favorite record of all times. Thank you.

  • good old days! 8th grade ,and this i dedicate to me because i love me 1000 times

  • Go on, then!

  • god i was at work and heard this song over the pa i was so glad to get home so i could look it up, great great song

  • ...their last hit..?

  • Classic music from back in the day.

Classic writing from back in the day. Classic voice from back in the day.

... Back in the day was the bomb.

  • Great song...sounds like it could have been recorded at motown

  • thanks Moonstar...reconstituted versions of the Platters, Coasters and Drifters are still alive and well and working the cruise ships and oldies concerts so this great music lives on and hopefully will forever.

  • I have to find those cruise ships. I bet the shows are great.

  • Thanks for the post...great song....thought it was Garnett Mims....glad Google bought YouTube and we have that monster search engine

  • My pleasure my friend! Yeah, Garnett Mims is a great singer as well.

  • Many year ago in Atlanta Georgia at Underground Atlanta Sonny sat at our table, grabbed the microphone, and sang "smoke gets in your eyes" to my wife now of 35 years. We will never forget this. We were singled out by Sonny as out of a crowd of about 400 people, we were the only whites!! Great night!!

  • We live in Hotlanta too, nice to hear from another appreciator of fine music...

  • Was in Trader Joe's and heard this, started to dance in the frozen foods isle (asked and they have XM). Had to track down who sang, OMG what a wonderful tune...

  • Great song. I wish it was played more. I can't remember the last time I heard this on the radio.

  • I'm with you on that. I have XM radio and they don't even play the biggest hits of that time period.

  • my pops favorite song. he still plays this record ALL the time.

  • Great collection of pictures and a great song. For the record, I Love You 1,000 Times was not done by the original group but by the successor group with Sonny Turner (lead), originals Herb Reed and David Lynch, also Nate Nelson and Sandra Dawn. 1966.

  • @local4news Is that Nate Nelson of the Flamingoes?
