Furthermore, contrary to the propaganda in this video, other countries are not paying 50% of their income for health care. In fact, the USA pays a higher percentage of its gross national product for health care than any other economically advanced nation, even if you account for taxes that are going toward health care in various countries.

@JgHaverty Let me also add that even though the US spends more than any other company by almost every measure, we fail to cover all our people, and in addition, our overall health care outcomes are relatively poor compared to almost any other economically prosperous country. (when I say "almost any other country" I am being charitable to US health care outcomes. I think the factually correct phrase would leave out the word "almost".)

You will et a much clearer idea of the main provisions of an Act of Congress from reading a summary than reading every individual clause and subclause. Plenty of legal professionals do need to know the detail and read the act in full, and be sure they will point out if anything important is left out of a summary.

Everyone is equal in a national health service..... what can't Americans get about that? When The NHS act of 1946 was placed there was a lot of uproar with rich folk and a lot of the public believed in the media that slated it. But in 1948 onwards people couldn't see Britain with out it.
People are equal and the rich don't profit from it. There is your reason.

@cryingmolly He probably didn't read the bill because it is longer than a dictionary. Nobody, other than a few czars, read the bill; not even the Senators and Representatives who voted for the bill.
Everyone has their own self-interest. Government is incapable of running any business effectively for one simple reason, politicians first and foremost goal is not to run agencies/businesses (Amtrak, USPS etc...) in a fiscally responsible manner; but rather, to appease the public to get votes.

These figures are for the year 2011. According to the link the US pays 51% more per capita than the next highest country, Norway.
Also the US spends 16% of its GDP on health care, almost 5 percentage points higher then the next highest country, France.
