@78LilRedExpress440 When I was a kid, I lived in Central Mass & hung out at a local pizza shop after school. a woman who worked there used to get dropped off by a, light blue with white lettering, Superbird 4-5 days a week. Back then we'd see 3-4 winged cars around Fort Devens. I almost bought a Lime Green, White top, Challenger R/T-SE 6 pack, 4-spd with Argent Shaker.I haggled over a bondo over creased 1/4 panel & wrinkled vinyl near the right rear window.Who knew $3,200+ in 1980 was a deal
as an owner of a superbird I never get sick of the looks on peoples faces when I drive it down the street... I can walk out look at he car and everything is good in the world... Yes I'm a car nut!!! I love this video tought and the song is great!
One day on coast highway a guy pulls up next to me in my bird and says " that is cool'er than a lambo.. because we see lambos all the time in CA and this was the first bird he'd ever seen on the street!
@Sarcasticscum May I ask what you're driving? I am willing to make a little wager that you don't even own a classic car? As for a video... I guess I could ask my kids to help post one on here but it's just not important to me.
You're exactly right! :) I do not own a classic car, but I am the only child, and dad has already promised his collection to me. :D I'm currently at the Pratt School of Engineering, working on my Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
at the mopar nats 2 years ago in carlisle pa.some guy had a white hemi superbird with 3000 origanal miles!..these cars sat on the show room floor in some dealers till 73'!!
Nice to see one moving finally, even if its in a video. Road presence is off the charts. Have to ask, camera car? Sounded pretty beefy in that quick sound clip.
I don't live to far away from Big Daddy's in Florida. Have several friends with Mopars. Gotta love the Birds!!! Never had more fun then when we Fired em up late at night outside of Denny's and let em arm up. People stopped eatin and came outside to check us out.
i bow before the bird! i've only seen maybe three of them in my life and only one of them was being driven , the rest were trailer queens . good to see another gets to do what she was born to do! good vid
Very nice! I've always run dual quads on my 440's when ever I could. I've always liked Birds like this. I remember Richard Petty did very well with them.
Ahhh...the Good Ole' Days, when I could walk down the street and admire the Superbird's, GTX's, Cuda 440 six paks and Hemi-Challengers at my local Chrysler-Plymouth Dodge dealer. And only wish I could afford one when I was 16 years old. I only got as far as a 1968 Plymouth Fury III with a 383, a 1970 Dodge Monaco with a 440 Magnum, and 1967 Dodge Dart with a 225 Slant-Six.
1970 Plymout Superbird/ A Real Stock Car** SIMPLY PUT: THE BADDEST MUSCLE/FULL RACE READY CARS, EVER MADE -- NASCAR READY! And in case you gents don't remember, that was a production built (i.e. drive it off the show room floor, for about $2,500.00), STOCK-RACE-CAR! It stayed on the ground, in traffic, while racing, going a MERE 200 Mph. Oh, and that was almost 40 years ago. TOP THAT -- Sir 'Redcoat'; then or now, apples to apples and BANG for the BUCK. :) Cheers Mate
i may be 14 but i know more then some people the joe dirt car was a 69 charger daytona and this is a 70 superbird made by plymouth and this car is way better looking and in better condition
nice video of a great car. my cousin had a 1970 rt charger with a 440/six pack. what a ride for 16 year old back then. we burned off a set of tires one summer but was worth the girls we picked up LOL
Anyway, beautiful car. I have four different Superbird model sizes on display here at home, so there is no mistaking my own fanaticism for those that we invite over. Have a 1/18 green/black wing '70 Daytona sitting on my monitor right now. And, just a few more.....
I was amazed to learn from a reference book that the rearward facing scoops on top of the front fenders were an impromptu but effective fix for curing the tires rubbing the fenders, because at higher speeds they had so much downforce. Vert nice car.
Your reference book is incorrect. Also, look how wide the scavenging device is in comparison to the racing tires used. With those proportions in mind you can see that they provide no additional clearance whatsoever. The fact is that they were placed there to relieve air pressure in the wheel well at racing speed.
When these things debut at Daytona in 1969, they ran a 20 mph faster top speed than anybody else out there. I think around 185 or 190 mph. When I was a kid around 72, in Orange, CA a guy in my town had a light blue one. I thought it was cool.
I used to own a '72 plymouth Roadrunner all factory except 440 installed.black, airgrabber hood etc one of the best combo's for that year as far as i m concerned but i remember now about all the V8 musclecars i had. Im not so sure now,i ve had a 1971 Fiat 124 sport coupe twin ohc 4 cyl,4 wheel disk brakes ,5 speed box what an amazing little car,the thing goes well and handles great at 120mph,so confident,i think the italians know a little about engineering im afraid.
