  • Audio is over-modulated, but not bad.

  • @TalkerOne What do you mean?

The audio is as it was, no editing done.

  • At 0:14 that shot wasnt in TMP, that was from Wrath Of Kahn wasnt it?

  • @DeltaFoxtrotWhiskey3 Yea, it was in TWOK, I just couldn't find any decent close up shots of Ilia, at the time.

  • gr8 job as always chris, didnt realise the name enterprise was on the sides of the photon torpedo bays in the film. GR8 JOB!!!!

  • the part at 2:41 sounds like one of roy harris symphonys

  • This is WAY TOO DAMN COOL!!!!!! Love it!!!!!

  • 26 people will be killed with a photon torpedo in the head... xd

  • @Bsoler97 26 people didn't like the video, and... I'm not after 100% approval.

  • Cool

  • Is it just me, or does the Shatner looks like Will Ferrell here? :)

  • Comment removed

  • @ericdapugi George takei had some practise as a helmsman ramming the pt 109

  • Nice. For a home-made computer model, not bad at all. And I love the slow zoom-in on Kirk. It's amazing how something that simple can perfectly capture the emotional content of the character.

  • have you ever tried to re-create the battle scene from the origional series "ultimate computer"? but, give it a little more twist?

  • @002less I created one shot from the episode, way back, but not the whole sequence.

  • damn this is cool. must of taken a long to do?

  • @002less Thanks, it's been so long, I don't remember how long it took exactly.

  • Just had to get my once in a while fix. I love the planet fly by! That was perfect!

  • 1:30 you forgot the little person waving goodbye. :P

Also, IIRC, the deflector dish turns blue fairly shortly after departure.

    Still, well done. Epic.

  • @CapyGuy I know that, this is back from 2007, way before any of my real experience in CG, plus I can't find any animated characters, and I can't model stuff worth a damn, lol.

  • Not to nitpick, but didn't Kirstie Ally(Lt. Saavik) first appear in Star Trek II?

Or maybe you just wanted to remeber her as the *hot* actress she once was?

  • I was trying to get good images of all the actors, up close, and I couldn't get one that I wanted of Lt. Ilia.

  • Beautifully done, gave me chills.

  • They forgot to add a few lines:

    "All suckage"

"All suckage ahead Mr Sulu- poor quality imitation of the orginal is now online, and ready to piss people off Sir!"

"Ahead manouvering thrusters- before the intended audience pukes on us"

  • Ummm, whatever, TMP was awesome.

  • Yes Airportchris its special effects is very awesome.

The incredably piss poor CGI amaturish crap I see on here just pisses me off and make me want to hurl.

Why do people think they can do better when they KNOW THE SHIT THEY MAKE IS WORST THAN THE ORGINAL?

  • Well, excuse me, at this time, I was working with a Pentium 3, which couldn't do very highly detailed and intense quality renderings, so if you got a problem with it, fine, but your comments are more than a simple criticism, it's not even constructive.

Well, it seems like people would disagree with you.

I know the attitude you have is due to being a former Army Drill Sgt.

  • Also, maybe you should see some newer renderings, you know, ones that aren't 2 years old.

  • Sir:

I have the attitude- well, lets be honest here: most of the videos you see on youtube are either A)Stolen from professional sources or B)Such poor quality home recordings its embarassing.

Granted, using a P3 as a proof of concept is a logical explaination and you did good consideirng the equipment limitations you had available at the time- so I congratulate you on attempting this.

  • Well, also at this time, YT didn't have HD capabilities, much less 480p SD.

Well, it was my actual project, it wasn't a WIP or some demo, it was an actual production I was doing, on the system I had.

Now, I have a much newer system, and I can do much better animations, etc.

  • If you did this with a P3, then you've done excellent- I just wish it'd been marked with something like "Proof of concept" or something to identifiy it different than the orginal launch sequence of the movie

  • At the time it wasn't a proof of concept, it was a legitimate production at the time, on my new system, yes, maybe I would consider it a demo WIP like creation.

I may when I get the time, recreate this using better quality models, etc.

  • Also, did you miss the words "(RECREATION)" at the end of the title on the video?

  • I don't see shit on your channel, so you got no room to talk.

  • *Coughs quietly into his left hand* I can't post my stuff legally due to copywrite.

So I can either stay honest and not post, or upload stuff thats legally copywrited.

If I post (c) I will lose my position working in theaters in both Tacoma and Seattle.

    What would YOU do?

  • Well, if it's created by you then you can upload it, but things can be uploaded under fair use, but it's not a work around for everything, it only goes so far, like Lifetime said I upload something from them, if it's no more than 2 minutes in length.

For what I do, CG animation, as long as I put the creators of the models, etc. it's fine, now if I were to upload an actual movie in full on YT like I see often, then I can get slapped with a DMCA from the distributing company.

  • Theres truth to what you've said.

On the other hand, I don't want to get static from the guy who writes my paycheck! =)

  • Chris, this animation you do- can you do a tank coming out of the ground and are you familar with the "Bolo Tanks"?

Theres a short story I'd like to turn into a movie- I think I can get the (C) if I play my cards right. i was going to do it old style- but maybe if we could do this right-?

  • If I had a CG model of a tank, etc. I prolly could.

No, I am not familiar with that.

  • TMP was quite boring yet enjoyable for a fan. The only really nice thing was the ending which reveals who V'ger was. Also V'ger and these mentioned 'living machines' are believed to be the origins of The Borg ;)

  • I actually like TMP, fan or not, of course I am a fan.

I know, I have seen the little bonus feature explaining it.

  • that was very well done!

  • Personally I was pretty impressed...I thought you did a terrific job with the 3D animation and syncing to the soundtrack. Superb.

  • This has made my day thanks! :D

  • haha, you're welcome.

    Thanks.

  • At the time that was an exciting moment... first time we see the new ship... I loved it

  • Yes.

  • Yes what?

  • I agree with you.

  • that was the most boring scene of the star trek saga. why did you recreate it?

  • To each is their own, I guess.

  • it was not boring in 1979. It was Awe inspiering.. Visual Effects at the time made this scene oerwhelmingly amazing

  • That's the point. The whole movie was boring because they gave too much importance to the special effects and the plot was quite empty. The Wrath of Khan was WAY better.

  • I actually enjoyed TMP, and the big reveal of new design, and the soundtrack is magnificent.

  • I respect your point of view, but financially it wasn't a big success. Star Trek 2 was way cheaper and way more exciting. Of course there are things that I liked in TMP too, but the plot was really empty :-(

  • Maybe not, but it was a pivotal moment, of the new refit Enterprise.

They reused a lot of footage from TMP in ST2, so they could do the Mutara Battle scenes.

  • Well I still prefer it to Star Trek 11. JJ insulted the whole Star Trek franchise and universe. I dont consider it as a Star Trek movie.

  • I love Star Trek XI, I have it on DVD already, the original DVD files.

  • STUPID!

  • Thanks.

  • Didnt they make Shelby a Admiral because she had the Best Rack in Starfleet?? she had such nice ta ta's they should have made her Admiral of Starleet Rack Command.....yeah....

  • The only issue is, Saavik does not come until TWOK. TMP The navigator is Lt. Illia.

  • I know, that.

  • AJC, more issues than that. Those uniforms did not come in until Trek II. (TWOK). The nav deflector should have been pink prior to departure. (Not yellow). The "no-step" zones around the phaser hardpoints should be orange with a red outline. That's just a start!! =Stefan=

  • ok, this was not meant to be perfect, and apparently it was ok to the 99 people who have favorited it.

  • Airport, sorry, I became a "Trekkie" on 8Sep66, and have followed since. I know my ship. Just a sugestion, if you make more, follow history. If you wan't to make changes, invent your own. =Stefan=

  • lol, like I said, this is not perfect, I am a fan of all Star Trek, but one little minor change in detail for a very simple reason, is not cause for hysteria.

  • Get a fucking life.

  • Goldi, My, my, What a temper. And such language. I have a life, Star Trek is my hobby. I have a wife, 4 kids, and 6 grand kids. I am an aircraft mechanic, a Cessna 400 series specialist. If that doesn't qualify as a life, what does??? =Stefan=

  • Then why did you obsessively point out every flaw?

  • itsa, by asking me that, you acknowledge the flaws. My job is done! =Stefan=

  • Jesus Christ are you serious?

  • What?

  • I'm talking to the moron who says " derr your phaser hard points should be red with yellow etc etc. What a moron. This is awesome, he should just recognize it.

  • ah ok, thanks, granted this is my older version of this, and I have a video response to this, of my updated version.

  • Did you make the ship or did you download it from a website and make the animation only?

  • Downloaded it, but I had to redo this model, texture, glows, etc b/c it was a bare model, when it's download in 3DS format, it's originally made in Blender, I believe.

  • Space dock.

  • ???

  • It's funny but when I went to see the movie with my best friend, the moment when we first see the Enterprise in space my best freind leaned over to me and said, "have you got a hard on yet?" Yes I did. I love the new enterprise.

  • For what it's worth....Well Done.

  • Regardless of how the masses think. Original Star Trek is the best Trek. It may have over the top dialog, and no action, I would still rather have this then JJ's new stuff.RIp Trek on 5-8-09

  • how do you know the new movie will suck? wait till it comes out before you judge it doucher.

  • Did a say the new movies is going to suck. Please Read before commenting. I said I prefer old Star Trek mainly the old Enterprise. Too answer your question. Yes I have I was in Austin and saw a special of the Movie. If you want to know everything I will spoil it for you.

  • I think the new movie is gonna be awesome.

  • plz do. send it to me plz. thnx

  • Send what?

  • srry. wrong reply person. great video btw.

  • thanks.

  • can u plz send it to me. thnx. i would like to kno wat happens.

  • My friend who is also into Trek, went to the London Premiere, and he said the movie is awesome, and that even I will love it.

  • It's awesome. Though the only thing I think would have made it better would be a slightly more epic music score--I miss hearing the Goldsmith score throughout the main/beginning of the movie.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed it. When a certain planet was destroyed, and a certain character was killed I started getting mad, but once it it was established to be an alternate time line, I sat back and enjoyed it.

I think the actors did capture the esscence of the original series quite well. The only thing that still bothers me is that the Enterprise is not "Kirk's Enterprise"

  • The enterprise's nacelles were the only thing I didnt like about the film.

  • I love the new Enterprise, and the movie, it is amazing.

  • i Agree with you Chris, the movie was amazing and lived up to the hype and then some

  • well it was suppose to be Kirk's enterprise in 6 years movie time. However due to the whole alternate timeline thing Kirk was handed the enterprise much earlier. Kirk is the youngest captain in trek period at the age of 25. Possibly the youngest admiral later on. He beat his prime timeline self. :)

  • I loved how they made the battles a lot more rapid paced. The new phasers are a lot cooler than the normal ones that shoot with a much slower rate of fire. I think JJ did a great job with the movie. Also the characters had more depth to them, which is most important.

  • check out my video. I have the phaser fire part up. The new phasers are like machine guns they spit out fire even faster than the TWOk phasers.

  • I have seen the movie, I have a p2p CAM of it, very good quality to.

  • A job well done Lt. Commander

  • Lt. Commander?

  • this is great.

  • Has anyone here given props to Jerry Goldsmith for the Music? IMO, by FAR, the best thing about the first movie.

Like the person said prior, this scene was so epic, and it wouldn't have been the same without Jerry Goldsmth..

  • KPmook31...Absolutely correct. Although Goldsmith would only admit it under duress when interviewed, this was probably his finest score EVER for any motion picture.

The world is poorer for his loss.

  • I agree.. Ilia's Theme (the overture) is one of the most amazing pieces of music ever recorded... Jerry Goldsmith was amazing... Another score he did which was good, was "Rudy". Anyone who's ever been to Disneyland in California, and has been on the ride Soarin' Over California, that was Jerry Goldsmith's work as well...

  • where is the space dock worker waving???

  • I did't have the skills to add that particular part, and I still don't, I don't really work with animated characters, and IK chains, and Biped characters, etc.

  • That's Star Trek 1979 not 1982.

  • I know,

but who was this comment for?

  • cool renactment of the movie scene. Kind of disappointed knowing the enterprise blows up in 2 movies down the line.

  • thx.

    yea.

  • hey man, the Enterprise-D and the Defiant did too but there's always a replacement waiting

  • the Enterprise-D blows up because of Riker's foolishness and the defiant blew up because of sisko's slowness. The Enterprise blows up becaues the ship was badly damaged from the last fight with 5 people running her on autopilot. Replacements are never better than the original. You grow attached to something that has worked for you or serviced you for a long time. If you watch star trek V kirk missed and preferred his old chair.

  • yup.

  • Remember Scotty in the TNG episode Relics? "USS Enterprise NCC 1701, not bloody A, B, C, or D"

  • Scotty's best line in TNG.

  • Fantastic film, beautifully put together. You should be very proud! *****

  • thx,

this is before I could cut actual clips out, so I used pictures, and I have been saying I will recreate this again, now that I have better means of doing it, but I just can't get around to it, lol.

  • Extremely well done. Most beautiful Starship ever designed, thanks to great men like Gene Roddenberry and Mathew Jeffries! BOYCOTT JJTREK and the JJprise ugly POS.

  • DAMN!!!! Very Well Done!!!

    10/10

  • thx.

  • This was the best scene from Star Trek TMP I just love how big the Enterprise looked

  • yea.

  • I sometimes pop in my DVD of TMP just to see this scene, its so epic it brings a tear to my eye.

Try watching it on a Blu-ray player (Or upscaling DVD player) on a TV capable of displaying 1080p, the awesome can not be described.

  • I bet, I would love to watch it in an iMAX theater as well.

  • Hey Chris,

You keep this up and you're gonna get a call from J. J. Abrams asking you to work on the Star Trek re-boot!

Speaking of which, maybe you want to do a version of the trailer scene which shows iron-wielders constructing the very first Enterprise.

  • The first Enterprise in history, or the first Enterprise from Trek? NX-01?

  • Oh. sorry...I meant the first Constitution-class Enterprise.

  • ok, I will try, idk how I would do the little people, etc.

  • screw nx, constitution ftw!

  • Good Job man, Impressive.

  • thx. I might make a new improved version, if I can find the time, lol.

  • im a big fan of this scene, wanna chat somtime? what program do u use? im also a big star trek fan

  • cool, sure. I have msn, yahoo, and aim, and I also have a myspace. I use Autodesk 3DS MAX v8, the have 2009 now, but most of my plugins like I used to make the v'ger lightning in another video of mine, only work this 8 or before. Cool, I am always up to suggestions on videos to create.

  • well hey add me as a friend, i was wanting to know what you though about V'ger is facinates me so much and to think the Voyager probe helped in creating the borg, if u dont know what im talkin about ill tell you later

  • You could maybe recreate the battle scene from undisovered country when the enterprise and Excellcier fought General Chang in the cloaked prototype bird of prey or the battle from wrath of khan

  • i got a question, if i thought up a script to do maybe, could you do the effects?

  • idk, depends, on what the script is.

  • well i dont know, i have never made one, but it seems interesting to do

  • lol, ok.

  • Yo what's up? I had to come watch it again. I just saw the redesign for the new JJ Trek Movie. It made me sick to my stomach. So I need a pick me up.

  • i saw it to. its a huge insult to her.

  • ehh. JJ Enterprise isn't so good in the picture. We've still got time to make final decisions.

  • Now, that I saw the official theatrical trailer, I think it might actually be a good movie.

  • Awesome! Why was the deflector dish yellow again? Was it because it was showing the reflection of light in this one, and they never kept that going in the other films?

  • Its supposed to be yellow, when moving a slower than warp speed, and blue, indicates the deflector is powered completely up, at full impulse and warp.

  • there never was and will be another starship like the enterprise. =)

  • There will never be one, yet.

    :-)

  • do more of these this was sooo cool of a video great work please do more especially this star trek do a part 2 and so forth ...thanks ...Dectriggs

  • ok, thx.

  • this was great animation. Kudos to you Airportchris. I have one small suggestion..as the ship leaves drydock have some people in suits jumping around on the dock framework like the movie it gives good scale to the size of the ship.

  • thx. ok. cool. thx.

  • Great work on the vid!

  • thx.

  • Outstanding work!

  • What color have you made the hull? There seem to be some shades of gray. The Enterprise was pure white - the color variations were created by the different panels being painted with alternating matte and glossy coatings. So rather than changing the texture colour itself, you could experiment with the surface reflectivity and falloff if you wanted to take this to the next level. Try editing it with the original bridge footage and soundtrack too. :-)

  • It was actually the lighting, if I put a default omni light in, it would be white. This is the original sountrack.

  • Gene Rodenberry would be proud.

  • But Saavik wasn't in Star Trek: TMP.

  • thx.

  • thx. np, i am planning in redoing this sequence, and I will add a space walker.

  • Glad to see this is still popular. It's great work. Just came by to get my monthly fix!

  • This is absolutely fantastic! You did such a wonderful job with this!

  • thx. I plan to remake this, using the further updated version of this model, updates by me. Model by Eric Peterson.

  • You should make model work for celestia. :)

  • idk if it work, b/c the effects are purely 3D Studio MAX specific.

  • Sir, I am EXTREMELY impressed! I have watched that scene at leat 400 times in my life, and with the exception of a shot of Persis Kambata (Ilea) instead of Saavik, you were spot on! The only thing I would add is the little man in the spacesuit that does the flip and waves as she leaves the dock!! I think we all felt we would have done the same thing if we were there!!!

    Again, Superb!!!

  • thx. Yea, I will try to find a static space man, and remake this whole sequence, with my much updated version of this model.

  • I look forward to that! Bravo!!

  • thx.

  • I enjoyed it. Overall, you did a good job in capturing that scene when the Enterprise leaves space dock. I wish you could use the crew images from the Motion picture seeing them in the uniforms from Trek 2 forward didn't look right. It too bad that you could add the worker waving goodbye to the Enterprise as it leaves.

  • thx, yea, but I couldn't find good shots of them all in TMP, etc. Yea, I am not quite that good at CGI yet, lol.
