This is not among Shirley's classics, and is more of a commercial vehicle, not of the caliber of her earlier films including HEIDI. Her 1938 films seem lower budgeted compared to the others, the slide downward probably most obvious in JUST AROUND THE CORNER. THE LITTLE PRINCESS was her last really great film released the following year.
As for the trailer, it was made up of outtakes. The Capt. January trailer used outtakes, also.

interesting - Be Optimistic in the trailer is shot from a different angle than what appeared in the final film.
