Blanchett or Montenegro should have won the Oscar over the attention seeking Paltrow. Can't stand that woman. When she won in 1999 I was in high school. I think I took a day off the next day because I was still sick after watching her over the top speech.
Now i dont mean her skin tone or makeup but sh's glowing like its her aura i guess y'know.. She is one heck of an actress but i dont agree that shes gorgeous... She's a driven, talented, excellent actress who happens to be not-that-bad looking, that's all...
@95jonesie if you type in "cate blanchett" "charlie rose" 1999 in the search bar, and click on the first video that comes up, it's right at the start of the clip.
@JohnTripinTokyo Why do the Globes get it right? Are you kidding? The Globes nominated Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie's movie 'The Tourist' for Best Picture. The Globes have been known to get it wrong more often than the Oscars do. But Cate did get robbed at the Oscars that year. It had more to do with Gwenyth being a more well-known Hollywood ingenue. Cate was still new to Hollywood and not yet "Cate Blanchett." It's not fair, I know.
@44excalibur I'm not talking about the Globes in general. But this is one of those cases where they manage to reward the truly best nominee and don't follow the Oscar politics and studio campaigns. I know it's not fair. And it's not the first time this happened. Last year The Social Network lost Best Picture to The King's Speech, for instance. The Globes get it wrong many times, but here they got it right. Montenegro gave another Oscar-worthy performance that year and she also deserved the win.
I wish her reaction was posted in the video. I'll never forget it. She gasped in shock and I gasped with happiness. Her performance in Elizabeth is IN-CRE-DI-BLE!

This is the definition of class. Why do the Globes get it right and the Oscars don't?

@JohnTripinTokyo because the oscars are full of politics and where marketing and manipulation win over film quality
