  • I was so delighted to see the Canadian Pacific Railway logo! I am from the United States and I love all of North America's railroads!

  • it was Canadians who came ashore along with us and the Americans on D day.

  • @georgeamery Don't forget Passchendale and Vimy Ridge!

    Thank you Canada!

  • @BasilFawlty4444 I didnt know off hand Canada was specially involved at Passchendale, but I am sure they were.I did know about Vimey Ridge.

  • I say Piddingworth, good show and thanks for posting! I remember singing this lovely old anthem in grade school....and our Red Ensign wot flew so proudly for so long!

  • Great Anthem Greetings to my Canadian Brothers From Aberdeen Scotland UK

  • I still don't know why we had to die for you in WW1. We did clean up though

  • @Perribird13 Canada was still closely linked with Britain by this point, and would be considered a colony, and we had to answer the call to war.

  • Very well put together, thank you! God Bless!!! Actually brought a tear to my eye.

  • You may be pleased to know that the tree that inspired this song is still alive and well and flourishing in east Toronto.

  • @Oswulf1 and it was a Scot who wrote the song!

  • one question, what happened to the british loyalist william franklin, son of traitor benjamin? i heard he was imprisoned, and yet his father dd nothing to help him

  • god bless our canadian brothers from britain, rule britannia and canada

  • this is fantastic, to hear this song we dont hear often enough today. great video thank you.

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing it.

  • Great historical value in this music. There is a lot we can all learn from restored music like this. Thanks piddflicks from a N.Z.er whos a bit of a hotch potch of many, many countries. More than most people, I would imagine and proud of the fact.

  • Terrific! Thank you for posting it!

  • my family has always told me, the Canadians are one of us. never have i seen a group of people who our as loyal to Britain and the Queen than the Canadians.

maple leaf forever is by far the best national anthem.

    Adam, England

  • @adamrep128 I just had to mention that we are loyal to Canada and our own Queen, Her Majesty Elizabeth II of Canada, not to any foreign powers!

  • @adamrep128 God save the Queen! long may she reign! God Bless the UK and her common wealth!

  • @adamrep128 The nostalgia of a colonial past, pity then Britain joined the EU & sold the Commonwealth down the river: gone was cheap NZ lamb, butter, fruit, Australian wool, copper, zinc, aluminum, iron ore, gold, etc Canadian fruit, wood, fish, beef, grain, oil, fur, diamonds, copper, aluminum, machine tool manufacturing, raw materials. The Maple Leaf Forever is not inclusive & fails to reflect the modern Canadian Mosaic, esp French Canadians, First Nations and aboriginal peoples. Salut.

  • No backbone! Look at you historya nd its filled with the manliest of men who tore shit up. fur tradeers, war of 1812, southa africa, WW1, WW2, Korea, and the numerous peacekeeping missions we've sered are all tremendous examples of Canadians showing backbone. Maybe if you hsowed some interest in canadian history you wouldn't be worried about our backbone. On a side note, Canada has never lost a war.

  • i like this anthem better then oh canada!!

  • @xxxrainydayzxxx

-this is a better song, oh Canada is a better anthem, an anthem should not be something that makes a large population in the country angry. The imperial days are over, history, gone in the ashes of WW1.

  • @xxxrainydayzxxx It's beacause Oh Canada is a Translation of Ô Canada... In french, our national anthem is way better

  • @cripto136 O Canada in English is not a translation of Ô Canada in French. The French lyrics while very beautiful are nevertheless very Roman Catholic and very French-Canadian oriented. The lyrics are far less inclusive of the multi culti Canadians than the Maple Leaf Forever is.

  • @Omhikmat - Granted, the French version of O Canada is very partochial and exclusive, but how can you say the Maple Leaf Forever is less so? To read the words one would think the country consisted entirely of Brits, Scots, and Micks. Not a single mention of the French Canadians, never mind anyone else.

  • @xlrv1 Slightly edit the lyrics to make them more up-to-date. Done.

  • List of French Canadian Knights of the British Empire (Part 3)

    Sir Henri-Thomas Taschereau

    Sir Joseph-Mathias Tellier

I have have listed about 32 French Canadians who were Knighted for their Services to the Dominion of Canada and the British Empire. I think this is not bad for a people who were conquered a century before. I am very proud that the Dominion of Canada and the British Empire Knighted these great men and it's a pitty that French Canadians are not more like them today.

  • @UnitedEmpireLoyalist

I'm sure you would of found a reason to diminish them if they haven't got knighted! You probably respect them just because the Brits respected them!

I always research when something interests me, but that doesn't and I don't care for that, I don't even know what a knight represents in today's world!

  • @TheMattattak

I would not dimminish them at all. I respect them 110%. My 2nd Favourite Prime Minister of the Dominion of Canada was Sir Wilfrid Laurier and he deserved his KBE (Knight of the British Empire). I am very proud of these French Canadians and all what they acomplished and in my oppion were great Knights of the British Empire.

A KBE (Knight of the British Empire) is award to the top people of the country in their field. Great men like Winston Chirchill was Knighted for his service

  • @UnitedEmpireLoyalist

You would have found a reason to diminish them, just because they were French Canadian and proud of it! You hate proud Quebecers! You think that being proud of Québec means to hate Canada!

  • @TheMattattak

I dont hate them all. I said I ADMIRE them. These people were Proud Quebecers and at the same time Proud Canadians and Proud British Subjects. I dont care who is Knighted whether he or she is a British-Canadian or a French-Canadian.

There are people in Texas who are Proud Texans and at the same time Proud Americans.

I would gladly give my life to defend French Canadian's like the ones whom I have listed because I respect their achievments and charachter.

  • @TheMattattak

I am not just a British-Canadian Imperialist, I am also defender of the Upper Class Elite. I would expect a British-Canadian Lower Class Person to bow and respect a French-Canadian Upper Class Person and just the same I would expect a French-Canadian Lower Class Person to bow and respect an British-Canadian Upper Class Person.

These French Canadians who I have listed are Upper Class French Canadians who deserve respect and admiration by all (French Canadian and British Canadian)

  • @UnitedEmpireLoyalist

I respect them...weather they are knighted or not...it makes no difference! Same with great English Canadians.

Remember UEL, I'm the one writing to you in a foreign language, I've respected every English person in my life! The difference with me and you is that I respect everyone...lower class or upper class!

  • @TheMattattak

I hate to break it to you, but the English Language is not a Foreign Language in both the Dominion of Canada and even in it''s Province of Quebec. The English Language has been in both Canada and Quebec since 1763 which makes it 247 Years Old in the Dominion of Canada and it's Province of Quebec. English is a Native Language NOT a Foreign Language to Canada and Quebec.

I dont call French a Foriegn Language in the Channel Islands because it has been their for 1.000 Years.

  • @TheMattattak

Tell me who would you respect more? A man like Bill Gates who was born into a Lower Middle Class Family and who in the course of 20 Years built a Company called Microsoft into one of the largest companies in the world and making him the wealthiest man in the world or would you respect a person who does not want to work and in the end lives of Welfare that we Tax Payers pay and in the end he just sits down and does nothing all day. I would respect Bill Gates not this guy.

  • It's the way you said it...it sounded like you respected only the ones that make money! A person could work at BurgerKing all its life, 60 hours a week and still be poor at the end! I respect that person as much as I respect Bill Gates! Rich or poor! Not everyone that is poor is on welfare!

  • @TheMattattak

Sorry for the poor choice of words. If I offended you in some ways that I am very sorry. I may not be the most articulate speaker in the world, I know that I am not. It's very hard sometimes for me to express my views and sometimes the word sound good in my head but come out all wrong.

I do respect the people who do rise from poverty and become wealthy and successfull. One of my favourites was the late Conrad Hilton (Founder of Hitlon Hotels). I know not all poor are on welfare.

  • No., I'm sorry I didn't get what you meant! I guess it's a misunderstanding! I also admire people who rise from poverty...I for example I was born in a poor family, I now make more money then both my parents! I'm nothing to compare with such as Conrad Hilton or Bill Gates...I'm far from being rich!

  • @TheMattattak

My Family went though the reverse unfortannly. During Colonial Times in the British 13 Colonies, my family owned large tracts of land in New England and New York and lived in Boston and were wealthy merchents until the Revolutionary War (1775-1783) and after the War, my family who were Loyalist fled with the clothes on their backs to Quebec City and Montreal by a rabid Rebel Mob who wanted to kill them. They never recovered their wealth and today we are of the Lower Middle Class.

  • It's a shame...really! Did they get here by walking or boats? Did you know that during the war of 1812, the Americans thought it would be a good time to attack us becaus they thought the Loyalists would be on the American side? Little did they know, we were gonna kick their ass!

  • @TheMattattak

My Family were a minority in New England at the time of the Revolutionary War (1775-1783) because they were diehard British Loyalist who fought for King and Empire. My ancestors fough under Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton in the British Legion (British American Volunters) and after the war, They were on boat that contained Major General William Howe, 200 Royal Officers, 3.000 Royal Soldiers ,4.000 Loyalist Refuges from Boston to Halifax and then on to Montreal and Quebec.

  • @TheMattattak

You know that some of my favourite heroes in the Revolutionary War (1775-1783) were the French Canadian Milita who along with Royal Soldiers defended Quebec City from The Rebels under General's Montgomery and Arnold in the Battle of Quebec (1775). I consider these Heroic French Canadians much braver, heroic and loyal then the British American Rebels. The Union of the Royal French Canadian Milita and the Royal Soliders kicked Rebel Ass that day and they should be very proud.

  • I would have thought that the Brits would have gave your family a compensation or something (for being loyal)...a land or money! I'm just starting to read about the loyalists, I did learn about them in History classes but not much!

  • @TheMattattak

The British did give my family a form of compensation. They gave my family and other Loyalists Free Land which is all they could give us. The British at the time were in deep financial trouble. The Revolutionary War (1775-1783) put Great Britain into major debt and nearly bankrupt it. Still my family understood and they were happy to get out with their lives intact, many Loyalists were not so lucky. My favourite Loyalists were William Franklin and Thomas Hutchingson.

  • I wish we would live in a time where the government gave lands to its citizens! My family was also given lands, in Outaouais region! All they had to do was clear the forest!

  • @TheMattattak

I would love for the Dominion of Canada to restore the practice of rewardin it's heroes by giving them Knighthoods and Peerages. I believe such Canadian Heroes like Lieutenant General Romeo Dallaire (My Favourite Living Canadian General) would be Knighted by making him Sir Romeo Dallaire or making him a Peer by giving him a tile like Duke, Marquis, Earl,Baron etc.

BTW if you did something good, how would you like to become a Sir or be made a Duke, Marquis, Earl, Baron etc

  • Of course I would like to be rewarded for my good work!

About Romeo Dallaire...I also admire him! I think he's a great man, but I also think he was at the wrong place in the wrong time! I heard he wasn't doing to well in the past few years...he was found in a park in Ottawa sleeping naked on a bench! Although I'm not sure it's true!

His story is becoming a sad story...I feel sorry for him coz he is a great man!

  • @TheMattattak

I do admire Lieutenant General Romeo Dallaire what he did during the Rwanda Genocide of 1993 when he was Comander of UN Troops. He was and still is a brave person whom I have the highest respect for. He ranks amoungst such heroes of mine like Major General James Wolfe and Major General Issac Brock. He did what he could but unfortantly he was Naieve at the time and his pyschology was his major weakness, be blames himself which is wrong and I hope he recovers and forgive himself.

  • I think that is exacly how he feels, which he shouldn't! He's probably the one that did the most for those people! It's such a sad story, I wish people would have listened to him!

  • @TheMattattak

The sad fact about the Rwanda Genocide of 1994 was the both the Leaders and the People of the West had no courage to send troops to stop the Genocide. The Leaders were scared to becuase they knew that if any solider was killed then they would get voted out by their own people. The People (Voters) did not want their people (Troops) getting sent to die in a little know country in the Centre of Africa. Both the Leaders and their Voters should be ashamed of themselves to allow this.

  • @TheMattattak

Lieutenant General Romeo Dallaire and his troops in Rwanda were let down by the United Nations, United States, Republic of France, United Kingdom of Great Britain and the most painfull even the Dominion of Canada. All Countries that witnessed the Rwanda Genocide and did not stop it must be ashamed of themselves.

Sadly Canada has been home to a few Rwandan Hutu War Criminals. I believe that the Dominion of Canada should deport all these War Criminals and send them to Arusha.

  • No way, we have them here! WTF. We should deport them to Rwanda and let Rwandans decide what to do with them! I think it's just comman sense! IM so suprised to read this!

  • @TheMattattak Here is a List of French People who fought in the British Royal Armed Forces against the American Rebels in the Revolutionary War (1775-1783) 01. Major John Andre 02. Major-General Oliver de Lancy Jr 03. Bridafier-General Oliver de Lancy Sr 04. Colonel Arent DePeyster 05. Captain Charles Michel de Langlade 06. Captain John Montresor 07. Major-General Augustine Prevost 08. Lieuetant-Colonel Jacques-Marc Prevost So what do you think about this list of HEROES.
  • @UnitedEmpireLoyalist

Well all I have to say was that they were ineffective against the Yankee Doodles.

  • @UnitedEmpireLoyalist I believe dePeyster was actually dutch, from the gentry of New Amsterdam and the surrounding area. I recall the name when I was researching some of my van Cortlandt ancestors, including several loyalists (albeit late loyalists- 1785-88ish). Easy to misinterpret since "de" occurs both in french and dutch for very different purposes (of versus the).

  • @TheMattattak

The most infamous Rwandan War Criminal that lives in the Dominion of Canada is Leon Mugesara. Leon Mugesara was the Vice Chairman of MRND (Mouvement Republicain National pour la Democratie et le Devolppement) of the Gisenyi Prefecture of Rwanda. He once said to a group of 1.000 members that "We the people are oblilged to take responsiblity for ourselves and wipe out this scum" and that they should kill the Tutsis and dump their bodies into the rivers of Rwanda.

    He is in Quebec.

  • I don't understand why he's here! Why would we want people like that here? What's he doing in Québec?

  • @TheMattattak

According to Lieutenant General Romeo Dallaire's book "Shake Hands with the Devil" Many of the Rwandan Hutu Elite that enginered and lead the Rwandan Genocide of 1994 attended Canadian Universities and particulary Quebec Universities. They came here because of the Linguisitc (French Langauge) link between Rwanda and Canada. After the Rwandan Genocide they and their families fled to Canada and particuarly Quebec where they had contacts in Quebec that helped them seek asylum here.

  • You see, this is something I hate about our country! We have no back bone! We will change those things we hate about our country, take care and have a good week-end UEL!

  • @TheMattattak, I am a former President of the Royal Canadian Legion, and I say you should have some more respect for your country instead of saying you hate it and saying it has no back bone. Thousands of my comrades died fighting for this country and even though they died for the freedom of speech (among others) you might want to pick a better choice of words son.

  • He was arrested.

  • @UnitedEmpireLoyalist

Can't the queen still do that?

  • @TheMattattak

You know what's so funny and ironic. Most of the British American Rebel Leaders were the wealthy upper class elite. People like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and John Hancock were the wealhiest people in the Colonies that rebelled against the British because they did not want to pay their taxes. These people complained and caused a war about a tax of a few peneis, this shows how much of a cheapskates and crooks they were. These people should be ASHAMED.

  • @TheMattattak

Here is another Irony! Back in the 1770's Boston (My Ancestral Home) had the lowest taxes in the 13 Colonies, they paid about a 50th of the taxes paid by Londoners in Great Britian at the time. The Sugar Tax, Stam Tax, etc were only placed to help the British pay of the debts from the French and Indian War (1754-1763) and they belived that he Americans should pay their faire share. Guese what Boston is one of the highest taxed cities in the United States (Taxachusetts).

    IRONY!

  • @UnitedEmpireLoyalist

My opinion about you completely changed! I don't want to say more!

  • @TheMattattak

What do you mean about "Your oppion about You "Me" has completly changed and I dont want to say more"?

Is it about the the thing about respecting and bowing to an Upper Class Person who was worked hard to get where he and she got. I believe that such people who were born in poverty and who later became wealthy and powerfull on their own is a big reason to bow and respect them. I as a Middle Class Person deeply admire people who who were born poor and died rich and powerfull.

  • List of French Canadian Knights of the British Empire (Part 2) Sir Louis-Amable Jette Sir Henri-Gustave Joly de Lotbiniere Sir Alexandre Lacoste Sir Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine Sir Francois Langelier Sir Hector-Louis Langevin Sir Hormidas Laporte Sir Wilfrid Laurier Sir Pierre-Evariste Leblanc Sir Francois-Xavier Lemieux Sir Charles-Adolponse Pantaleon Pelletier Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier Sir Etienne-Paschal Tache Sir Louis-Olivier Taillon Sir Henri-Elzear Tashereau

  • Oh wow, I wonder how many English Canadians are nights, probably the double or triple!

I could compare this situation with a nice shirt...it might be very nice to have that nice shirt when it comes out, but as soon as a couple of people buy the shirt, it becomes meaningless and boring!

I think being a knight is meaningless! UK is boring!

  • The Conference board of Canada did studies on Canadian cities and Montreal and Gatineau arrived in 1st and 2nd as multi-linguistic (bilingual) cities. Thes are two cities in the province of Québec, if things need to change, it's not in Québec, but in the rest of Canada!

  • @TheMattattak

I would not believe 1 thing comming out for the Conference Board of Canada or any other Government Institution. You see the Canadian Government has been INFECTED with Political-Correctness and Multi-Culturalism and this studdy is to make the French Quebecois look good and make Anglo-Canadains look bad. The Canadian Government and Supreme Court are TRAITORS to Canada and they are a bucnh of lying brown nosing Quebecois Appeasers who is worst then Nevile Chamberline himself.

  • The flag was ugly, the song was boring (did not represent most Canadians)...good riddance!

  • @TheMattattak

You have such UGLY taste in in Flag Design. The Canadian Red Ensign Flag is so much more superiro then the Maple Leaf Flag. The Canadian Red Ensign Flag has 5 Colours (Red, Blue, White, Green and Yellow). The Maple Leaf Flag has only 2 Colours (Red and White). The Canadian Red Ensign has the Union Jack in the Top Left Corner and a Cool Shield in the middle). The Maple Leaf Flag only has a ugly Maple Leaf. This Canadian Red Ensign Flag represents the MOST IMPORTANT CANADIANS.

  • Oh, I see now...the MOST IMPORTANT CANADIANS! That shows alot about you UEL! If your trying to say that the loyalists are the most important canadians, well I wonder why the flag was changed! The flag was ugly as hell, just becaus it has the Union Flag...it doesn't represent the french-Canadians, but we might not be important anough for you...Dumbass!

  • @TheMattattak

The Canadian Red Ensign Flag (1921-1957) does NOT just represent the descendents of the British Loyalist Canadians but also the descendents of the New Frenchmen Canadians. In the Coat of Arms in the Canadian Red Ensign Flag, their is a blue square that has not 1, not 2, but 3 Fluer-de-lis (Symbol of Royal France). The most IMPORTANT CANADIANS in my book are the British Loyalist Canadians (Like Me)and the New Frenchmen Canadians (Like You). Look at the flag more closely.

  • @TheMattattak

The Top Right Corner of the Shield Contains a Red Square with 3 English Yellow Lions in it. The Top Left Corner of the Shield Contains a Yellow Square with a Red Scottish Lion. The Middle Right Corner of the Shield Contains a Blue Square with a Yellow Irish Harp. The Middle Corner of the Shield Contains a Blue Square with 3 French Fluer-de-lis and the Bottom of the Shiled Contains a White Triangle with 3 Canadian Maple Leafs.

This Flag represents the 4 People's of Canada.

  • @TheMattattak

The Canadian Red Ensign Flag (1921-1957) represents England with it's 3 Yellow English Lions. The Canadian Red Ensign Flag (1921-1957) represents Scotland with it's Red Scottish Lion. The Canadian Red Ensign Flag (1921-1957) represents Ireland with it's 1 Yellow Irish Harp. The Canadian Red Ensign Flag (1921-1957) represents France with it's 3 Yellow French Fluer-de-lis. The English, Scotts, Irish and French are represented. I advice you to get your eyes checked and wear glases.

  • @TheMattattak

The reason why the Canadian Red Ensign Flag (1921-1957) that had a Union Flag on the Top Left Corner was because at the time the Dominion of Canada (1867-1931) was a BRITISH COLONY. Had the Dominion of Canada been a French Colony then it might have had a Tri-Colour Flag on the Top Lef Corner. I believe that Canada should have a Union Flag on the Top Lef Corner of ti's National Flag and it's Provinces should have a Union Flag on the Top Left Corner on their Provincial Flags.

  • @UnitedEmpireLoyalist

I see all these and I know exactly what they meant! I rather have a dead leaf on the Canadian flag than an ugly Union flag, it does not represent Canadians anymore! News flash...we're not a colony anymore, even though you wish we were still one!

I would rather have a French flag on the Canadian flag!

  • @TheMattattak

NEWSFLASH. The Commonwealth of Australia retain's it's British Blue Ensign Flag as it's National Flag and the States of the Commonwealth of Australia also retain's their British Blue Ensign Flags as their Provincial Flags. The Realm of New Zealand also retain's it's British Blue Ensign Flag as it's National Flag. Both Australia and New Zealand are INDEPENDENT TODAY. So I believe that the National and Provincial Flags of Canada should be British Red Ensign Flags.

  • @TheMattattak

Was the Dominion of Canada a French Colony? No it was NOT, so it would be pointless and unaceptable for the Dominion of Canada to have a French Flag on the Top Lef Corner, it's like saying that a British Flag should be on the Top Left Corner of French Guiana and it should not be because French Guiana was NOT a British Colony but a French Colony.

I believe it's time to return to the loving embrace of Great Britian. We are Great Britian's Children and it's our mother who we love.

  • @UnitedEmpireLoyalist

Talk for yourself, Great Britain is not the mother of Canada, it's more like the adoptive mother! I don't know how you would make Québecers love and embrace Great Britan, it would take a miracle!

P.S. The Union flag represents the Spice Girls for me! lol

  • @TheMattattak

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the Mother Country of the Dominion of Canada and the Commonwealth of Australia and the Realm of New Zealand. Great Britian brought Wealth, Power, Democracy, Prestige, etc to Canada. Canada under Great Britian was 100% better then under France.

BTW. Remember that the 1st King of England (William the Conqeror) was French, another Frenchman who I admire and respect.

I bet bribing the Quebecois with money can make them.

  • @UnitedEmpireLoyalist

Sorry, but we are not for sale...if so we would have been the biggest supporters of the Queen already! With all the money GB gave us...we would all be singing God Save the Queen all day long!

  • Comment removed

  • Like I said befor: Good riddance!

  • @TheMattattak

The Maple Leaf Flag only has 1 Giant Maple Leaf Flag on it. The Colour of the Maple Leaf on the Flag is Red. The Colour Red Repsrents DEATH. The Canadian Red Engisn Flag has 3 Maple Leaves on it. The Colour of the Maple Leaves on the Canadian Red Ensign Flag is Green, The Colour Green Represents LIFE.

Which would you rather have, 1 Dead Maple Leaf on our Flag or 3 Living Maple Leaves on our Flag.

Me I much prefere a Living Symbol on our Flag then a Dead one.

  • Now this was enlightening, thx for the post...

  • Thank you for sharing this.

  • First: The 1921 Canadian Red Ensign Flag should replace the Maple Leaf Flag as the National Flag of the Dominion of Canada.

Second: The Maple Leaf Anthem should replace the Oh Canada Anthem as the National Anthem of the Dominion of Canada.

Third: All Provincial and Territorial Flags of the Dominion of Canada should be replaced with Similiar Provincial Flags as the Provinces of Ontario and Manitoba.

Canada was created to be a homeland for British American Loyalists and Loyal New Frenchmen.

  • wish this was still our anthem sooooo bad ass

  • Good man below.

but I must ask... Even as a frenchman, do you feel loyal to the Queen?

  • Yes, I do. France "abandonned" Quebec whilst the British let us stay French Catholics.

Plus, we fought together against the americans.

  • He's not a "Frenchman" he's a Canadian, and so is everyone else who embraces our common history and heritage.

  • I support the creation of a United States of Greater Britain comprised of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Dominion of Canada, Commonwealth of Australia and the Realm of New Zealand. The United States of Greater Britain should be a Political, Economic and Military Union to challenge the European Union, United States of America, BRIC (Brazil, Russia, Indian and China), the Muslim World and other enemies. We should make the United States our lap dog for a change.

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

  • Pro Rege En Patria!!!!! For King & Country!

  • The original is much better than the "modernversion". The latter is a ridiculous, apologetic waste of breath to sing. Let's not forget what made this country great - and it was not multiculturalism and the dumbing down of values.

  • Very beautiful!

Love the archival and historic imagery!

    Canada's premier patriotic song!

  • The maple leaf forever!

  • This is great stuff! Oh never to be a liberal socialist. Damn them all!

  • I've heard the new words of this song - they are TREASONOUS!! THIS IS TREASON TO HM THE QUEEN!

  • You can make a start by fucking off back to yellowbelly land!

  • What we really need is more Canadian history in our schools. I've got nothing against Asian people or any other immigrants as long as they are here legally. They are just as decent and hardworking as any other Canadians and often some of the most proud. I dont really feel any Asian influence on our culture - I live in Manitoba so it could be different out west.

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!

  • lol below.

  • "Wolfe the dauntless hero came / and planted the Britannia flag."

It was because of this line that O Canada was chosen over this song for our national anthem. Anti-French sentiment.

  • Have you ever read the French language version of "Oh, Canada"? Hint: it's not PC!

  • This song is beautiful, it should be Canada's National Anthem, with maybe a verse about France/French Canadians, to represent both English and French Canada in the song.

    As the song says:

GOD SAVE OUR QUEEN AND HEAVEN BLESS THE MAPLE LEAF FOREVER!

  • I don' think that the French should be included. The Province of Canada (1841-1867) and it's successor the Dominion of Canada (1867-) were not French Colonies but British Colonies. France was the motherland of New France, but Great Britian was the motherland of Canada, there is a differance between New France and Canada. I believe that this anthem should be restored as the National Anthem of the Dominion of Canada and the Canadian Red Ensgin should be restored as the National Flag too ASAP.

  • HERE HERE !!!

  • Sadly, IMO, Canada's lost and gone for good. No national defense (America will save you). No spirit of freedom. No resistance to government micro-management of citizens' lives. Canadians put up with crappy "health care," confiscatory taxes, excessive government monitoring of everything they do, a huge, overpaid/underperforming bureacucracy, a nanny state, a kumbayah foreign policy...hey, sounds like Obama's stealing his agenda from you.

  • Nanny state? Look at Britain!

Stop trying to create issues where there aren't any.

Canada is in a better place than most countries at this point in time.

Beautiful video by the way. I am not of English descent, but I am Canadian and this is very emotional for me.

I can't thank you enough for posting it!

    A Mari usque ad Mare

    :)

  • oh so you're an indian and by the way, mohawks were originally from what is now America. And Britain gave you land in Canada for helping us fight the American rebels. And the fact that you say your a patriot of Canada but in the comment you called our head of state a dried out old prune so who really is the better patriot?

  • The Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste adopted the maple leaf as its emblem in 1834. It's kind of nice to see how well it was accepted and integrated by the British North Americans of those days.

  • If someone ran for prime minister and said he'd make the anthem maple leaf forever, bring back the royal prefixes, abolish the Canada Act and make the Canadian Flag the Red Ensign. I would vote in an instant, too bad most people wouldn't even know what he maple leaf forever is. Fucking frenchies...

  • A- Being French Canadian and being a better patriot then an English Canadian is just against all laws of physics.

B-I'm not going to England, if you love a republic so much go to France of America.

    C-Go fuck yourself :D

  • This song owns O Canada by quite a mayb i'd say.

  • It's too bad that we have become so passive. We have allowed the French to trample over this great nation the English built.

I wonder how long before we lose all of our heritage and become a republic.

No wonder kids these days have no national pride.

We need to reinstate the old flag and replace the anthem!

  • Would Canada be Canada today if the natives or the French were the dominant power? No it wouldn't! Without the English this would not be Canada.

  • Under the French, New France was a backwater with a struggling fur trade. The Cities of Quebec and Montreal were mere luxurouis trading posts and did not compare to such cities as New York, Philadelphia and Boston. The French gave up New France because they wanted to keep there more profitible Coloies in the Carribean like Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinque and St Lucia because with there vas sugar plantations made more money for France then the fur trade of Canada. The British built Canada.

  • BritishImperialist, I would fire a 21 gun salute in your honour

but have no artillery, so please accept my sincere thanks for your words.

  • Thanks for your kind words CommonwealthCanadian

The Province of Quebec should in my oppion be Anglicised to the point where it is no differant from the other Provinces of the Dominion of Canada. We should encourage mass immigration of Anglophones to the Province of Quebec to ensure it's Anglicisation. I also believe that the Quebecois should be assimiliated into Anglo-Canadian Culture and Society, the sooner that the French Language dies out in the Province of Quebec the better.

    ANGLICISE NOW

  • I love england and my dearest Canada... but thinking of assimilating Quebec into anglo-canadian is wrong in many ways.... this what makes Canada unique and special from the other countries... the diversity of out many speaking people. Don't get things wrong... but making everyone just like you will bring a dull world and nation. The unique qualities of each culture and individual is what brings happiness to everyone.. Cheers

  • I am willing to support the French Language and Culture in the Province of Quebec if the English Language and Culture is given the same rights and privileges. The Constitutiton Act of 1867 established English and French as Official Languages of the Province of Quebec but right now ONLY French is an Official Language. Bill 101 (Charter of the French Language) must be replaced by Bill 199 (Charter of the French and English Languages). The Province of Quebec must restore English ASAP.

  • Well, even though they dont have it as a second language, they still have to learn english either way.... or they wont be able to talk to the other provinces. they want to be more independent and more french like... but that will never happen. they'll always be part of this glorious nation.

  • You are Wrong!

Having the French Language as an Official Language does not make the Dominion of Canada unique. What makes Canada unique amoungst the major nations of the America's is that it's a Monarchy and not a Republic. The Dominion of Canada would bennifit if the Quebecois are assimiliated into Anglo-Canada. We would have more Unity, Peace, Tranquility, etc if the Province of Quebec is Anglicised. The French Language has caused disunity, tension, etc in both Canada and in Quebec.

  • Bullshit Canada was founded on European cultures primarily English and French roots, not every culture from all over the world. Canada right now is an abomination of what it once was.

  • Seriously, as a bilingual - proud to be Canadian - french speaking quebecer, I find your comment rather offensive.

Canada is a country based upon the coexistence of several fabulous nation and we should honor that.

This is intended not only to you but to all seperatists also. STOP this stupid nonsense. For Canada, lets stay unified!

Anyway, cheers from Quebec, please don't think of us too harshly because of a few separatist fools. They don't represent most of the population.

  • Thank you for those words of wisdom. The energy we have wasted fighting the last 200 years...what it could have achieved!

  • @Gbrltr

    Amen.

  • The BNA Act of 1867 made both English and French as Co-Official Languages of both the Dominion of Canada and it's Province of Quebec. The Quebecois illegaly and unconstitutionally removed English as an Official Language of Quebec with their anti-English Language Laws like Bill 22, Bill 101, Bill 104 and Bill 178. The English Language must be restored and have the same rights and privileges as French in Quebec. Quebec is a Bilingual English-French Province and not a Unilingual French Province.

  • In my oppion the British where very tollerant towards the French Canadians, they gave you people the Quebec Act of 1774 which gave you Linguistic Rights, Legal Rights and Religious Rights and the BNA Act of 1867 which made both English and French Co-Official Language of Canada and Quebec and we were repaid with discrimintory laws like Bill 22, Bill 101, Bill 104 and Bill 178 and a Language Police (OQLF) and the transformation of English from a 1st to a 2nd Class Language in Quebec.

    THANK YOU.

  • How come your fellow Quebecois keep on voting for the most vulger anti-English and anti-Canada bigots such as Bernard Landry, Jacquess Parizeau, Lucian Bouchard and Pauline Marois and keeping on voting for parties like the Liberal and PQ Parties that support anti-English Laws like Bill 22, Bill 101, Bill 104 and Bill 178. How come Quebec dont support replacing Bill 101 (Charter of the French Language) with Bill 199 (Charter of the French and English Language) to restore English-French eqaulity.

  • You said "Please don't think of us too harshly because of a few seperatist fools" I believe their are much more then a few seperatist fools in Quebec because the 2 parties that keep getting voted in are the Anti-English Liberal Party and the Anti-English and Anti-Canada Parti Quebecois. How come you Quebecois did not vote for such parties as the former Equality Party which promotes equaltiy between both English and French Languages and Cultures in the Province of Quebec.

    RESTORE ENGLISH ASAP.

  • The Province of Quebec should abolish Anti-Canada Discrimintory Laws such as Bill 22, Bill 101, Bill 104 and Bill 178. The Province of Quebec should restore English as an Official Language and give it the same rights and privileges as French. The Province of Quebec should dismantle the Office Quebecois de la Language Francais (OQLF). The Province of Quebec should be declared Offically an English-French Province where both Language and Cultures are treated Equally.

  • Wow! That was a lot of text :)

As for the province of Quebec bringing back equal rights to both english and french, I couldn't approve more.

For the part of the British being very tolerant towards us, I agree also. It was us who were unfair towards the british.

Of course some incredibly cruel acts were performed by the british but, what some french seem to forget is that some very cruel acts were also performed by the quebecers.

  • I know that the British did some bad things towards French Canadians and I am very sorry about this. However the British were very Liberal and Fair towards French Canadians compared to what most conqueors would do with a conquered people. We did not exterminate or deport them like what most conqeorors would have done. We gave them the Quebec Act of 1774 ensuring their Rights to use the French Language, To Attend the Catholic Church and to obey their French Civil Laws for Personal Matters.

  • And that's exactly why the laws such as bill 101 were completely unfair.

  • Bill 101 (Charter of the French Language) is a Fascist, Unjust and a Discrimintory Law that must be abolished and replaced. I believe it should be replaced with Bill 199 (Charter of the French and English Languages). Both English and French should be the Official Languages of the Province of Quebec to be used the Provincial Government and Courts of the Province. Both English and French should have equal rights and be of equal size on signs, advertizing in the Province of Quebec.

    THIS FAIR!

  • YES!

  • The Dutch Langage was banned in Brussels and Flanders from 1831-1898 (67 Years) after the Belgian Revolution (1830). The French Beligans (French Speaking Upper and Middle Class Flemings, Walloons, Catholic Church and French Immigrants) treated the Dutch Speaking Flemings as 2nd Class Citizes and almost destroyed the Dutch Language and Culture in Flanders and Brussels. The French Belgians did not give Dutch Belgians a Quebec Act of 1774 ensuring their Lingiustic, Legal and Religous Rights.

  • Finally (sorry, there wasn't enough place in one comment)

About the party thing, the loss of the Equality Party and of the Unity Party was tragic and quite domage.

But now, the problem is that there are only three "real" parties in Quebec: the separatist Parti Quebecois, the "dictatorial" ADQ and the Liberals. No need to say which is better eh?

Errr, please pardon my ignorance, but what is ASAP?

  • ASAP= As Soon As Possible, just like LOL= Laughing out Loud and POS= Piece of Shit. These are Internet and Cell Phone Lingos.

The Quebecois should form a New Party that support total equality between English and French Languages, Cultures and People's in the Province of Quebec. I believe that the Equality Party should be reserected and both Anglo-Quebecers and Quebecois should join. It's time to abadon the Parti Quebecois and the Liberal Parties and throw them in the Trashbin of History.

  • Lol, thanks.

"It's time to abadon the Parti Quebecois and the Liberal Parties and throw them in the Trashbin of History. "

HELL YEAH! If ever I go in politics, I'll do my best, I promise ;)

promise? promisse? promiss? prommise? DAMN IT!

  • The Province of Quebec reminds me of the Province of Northern Ireland. The people of Northern Ireland like the Quebecois voted in Extremist Parties. The Catholic Northern Irelanders vote for the Sienn Fein Party of Gerry Addams and the Protestant Northern Irelanders vote for the Democratic Unionist Party of Ian Paisly, These need to change and they should vote for better parties just like how the Quebecois should stop voting for both the Liberal and Parti Quebecois Parties.

    EQUALITY PARTY!

  • UNITY PARTY!

    Personnal preference :P

  • I am okay with the Unity Party!

The Unity Party should promote the idea that the Province of Quebec is a Bilingual English-French Province. The Unity Party should promote the equality of both English and French Languages. The Unity Party should promote the equality of both English and French Cultures. The Unity Party should promote the equality of Anglo-Quebecers and Quebecois People's. The Unity Party should promote Bill 199 over Bill 101. The Unity Party should promote EQUALITY and UNITY.

  • Well, I'll promise you one thing, I'm not going to vote for this party...t tellemnt un leche cul d'Anglais! Grow some balls!

  • @TheMattattak

Why cant you be more like a great French Canadian by the name of theallcanadian. The theallcanadian is what all French Canadians should be like and He is one of the reasons why I have moderated by views dramatically in the past 2 weeks. You by keeping on voting for anti-English and anti-Canada bigots like Pauline Marois, Bernard Landry, Jacquess Parizeau and Lucian Bouchard (Pitty that the flesh eating diease did not just eat his leg but the whole of him) makes you a BIGOT.

  • @UnitedEmpireLoyalist

What makes you think I voted for them?

At least I vote, you don't, so you shouldn't have the right to complain!

You must feel alone in the world, nobody thinks like you anymore! The loyalists are disappearing in a big melting pot, while French-Canadians are still there and well! We still have enough voice to be listened...you don't!

  • Maple Leaf Forever sounds much better than O Canada.

  • Canada must replace the Oh Canada Anthem witht the Maple Leaf Anthem. The Maple Leaf Flag should also be replaced with the 1921-1957 Canadian Red Ensign Flag. The Maple Leaf Anthem was replaced with the Oh Canada Anthem and the Canadian Red Ensign Flag was replaced with the Maple Leaf Flag to appease the treasonous and ungrateful Quebecois to not hurt their feelings. I say that Canada is a British Nation and if the Quebecois dont like they are free to leave Canada (Quebec is a part of Canada).

  • Pearson also removed the Royal canadian prefixes on the navy and airforce, reversing that would get my vote.

  • my dear canada....FOREVER
