Roland defends their stance by saying the Roland founder initially intended the Jupiter 8 to model realistic sounds using real analog, but there was only so much he could do with real analog. This synth (Jupiter 80) can emulate realistic instruments much better than the 8 with supernatural but ofcourse the analog sounds are not real analog...it would have been better if Roland had integrated SuperNatural with real analog circuitry (osc, filters) similar to Jupiter 8.
Fair enough Howard if you get a free synth out of it. But you know it's reLly just carp and Roland are taking the piss trying to pass this thing of as a Jupiter. Just shows how low and out of touch Roland have become.
Hey Howard just say how good it is and you'll get a free 0 and a nice fat cheque for lying through your teeth. I would do that too if I was Howard but this 80 is just a complete pile of junk and anyone who knows the 80 would laugh at this.
@MrUAV100 I agree buy a Jupiter 4 or yes an 8. Both unique synths this 80 sounds like everything else out there such as Z1 by Korg which is better than this junk it is. Good video though and nice to see Howard enjoying himself. Peace
Eveyone keeps talking how today a replica of Jupiter 8 would be north of $10K.. Let me tell you from experience. In 80's a transistor was a dollar, today we stuff millions of them on a chip and sell them for 30 bucks or less. Components are cheaper wether they are active or passive, they cost much less than in 80's so the argument of what would it cost today and no one would buy it are misguided. If one wanted an exact copy of Jupiter 8 today in parts $400 plus chassis.
Even my xp-60 is much more powerful then this junk... This stuff any roland keyboard can do, but don't pay the price of JUPITER for worth of just $600 GAIA or SH -201 with additional samples.....
@xpjv XP-60? LOL! You better recount the voices. You're quite a few short.
And the J-80 isn't a sample machine. It goes well beyond sampling with Roland's Behavior Modeling and Super NATURAL technology. The era of 4-layer velocity switched samples is over. You're stuck in the past with your antiquated synth.
Haha I was thinking the same. I Don't blame Howard though. Someone might as well turn a profit though as Roland definately won't be. This kind of promotion will only work on the kids and naive who fall for the word "Jupiter". Surely no self respecting musician would blow thousands on this awful contraption?
I think my V synth GT, XT, and Fantom X (with all the expansion boards) will have me covered until the rest of my life! This "toilet thing" worth the "donut middle"...
Also mr. "skeleton man" please change your t-shirt - my child saying "that is the satins guy". (probably that is who you are)
This is such a shame. I am not going to buy any more Roland Products. Are Japanese gone crazy, what's next, some stupid Anime stuff, or retarded Picatchu? Call this V-Synth GT2 but leave the Jupiter name alone. This was a rush job to have anything since Korg & Yamaha released their stuff. I work with Japanese companies in the Telecom sector, and this is nothing but saving face and having something to show. They never admit they are wrong. Someone deserves to jump from a building. Stupiter-80!
This synth seems to have the guts of V-synth GT and Fantom G (Supernatural) instead of Jupiter 8. However, I will hold my judgement until I can hear the analog sounds in it.

Very cool looking, cannot wait to play this keyboard. What happened to Howards big hair? Just joking, we love you Howard.
