I never realized that Harry arranged the order of the songs as...."dating,falling in love,marriage,infidelity,divorce ,regret,age!" What a great LP!!!
This is beautiful. I seem to remember Danny Kay(e) singing it in the film "The Five Pennies". Thank you very much for this. oops I have just had this confirmed looking down the menue on the right hand side.
This is absolutely gorgeous! In fact the whole album 'A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night' is one of my desert island CDs. Harry Nilsson left us too soon and I miss him....
Love this song and the way it is sung...I wish I were a baby once more. I used to sing my babies to sleep with this song plus the five little pennies and goodnight.
orginal five penny`s was glenn miller and benny goodman woody herman and of the dorsey brothers i forgot the other one but danny kay played him in his life story red somebody but red was the leader his daughter had same illnes has me polio he gave up the horn till she was sixteen and it was played like harry nielson sings it
Yes, and Harry's version of Gordon's song 'This is all I ask' is amazing. It's funny-- some major pop singers (hello, Rod Stewart) have gotten kudos doing 'the American songbook', and Harry beat them to it by decades!
Heartmelting. I got this album when it was released and just loved it. I have it on CD now, and it is still just as beautiful as ever. This particular song is my favorite. Thanks for posting this.

Five Pennies Version is so much better than this, part of my childhood!

@akacal1991 ...Nilssons is way to slow....ragtime is exactly that...ragtime....not this slow funeral version.

@tigerman4 Well, the first word is "Lullaby". :P
I like it better in a slow fashion, anyway.

@tigerman4 I fully agree!!

@tigerman4 but this is how the song goes...it's a lullaby.
