@Alaskaslim No offense intended however, if you read the lyrics *obviously he's hard to understand if your not use to his voice* you'd actually find out they are one of the most politically and socially influenced bands around. When Foul Taste of Freedom came out in '92 nearly the whole album is socio/economic. The album prophets of doom is also heavily influenced by the gulf war and George W. just something you may not have known is all.
"most politically and socially influenced bands around"
And do I care? No, I read the lyrics before this, its angst, pure and simple, and I also understand what it's about, and it doesn't make me approve any more, to me, it's the completely wrong approach.
I'm not saying run-of-the-mill patriot-flag waving songs are the right approach either, but when encountering adversity, you should try to come to terms with it, not just scream like a banshee over it.
@Alaskaslim yea....because you know more about the band being strictly full of angst than someone who owns all the albums and was purely trying to inform an ignorant listener who thinks NIN and Queen are heavy metal....politely go choke on a shotgun.
No ignorance to be had here, I read the lyrics to all of their songs across 10 albums, from Act of God to Absolute Power.
If this is what you like, the style you want to "Rock" to, fine, but stop with the pretense of it being more than it is, I like Family guy, doesn't mean I won't cop to it being just stupid most of the time, and the few, rare moments it may have been more than that doesn't change the former.
@Alaskaslim I've been listening to Metal for 27 years and it's songs like these that bring respect to Metal. Instead of singing about cliched bullshit "Sex, drugs, and Rock and Roll' topics, they are singing about things that are important. I got into metal listening to Judas Priest, Dio, Dokken etc but abandoned it in because they had nothing to say. What a band sings about is important to me, and I wanted heavier. I'm proud that I chose to listen to this, because I have no respect for rock.
As it is said, it's not what they say, it's how they say it, and how they say it here, is just a turn-off for as far as I'm concerned.
Music can bring things to attention without screaming bloody murder like this, from the 60s and 70s protest writers like Bob Dylan and Phil Ochs, 80s hits such as "We're not going to take it" by Twisted Sis., to more current artists with 'Boom!' by System of a Down, and Jon Bon Jovi's Cover of "Stand By Me" with Iranian artist Andy Madadian.
You can protest and be coherent, as well as having redeeming notes, this kind of music will only be heard by people who were in their camp to begin with, meaning it's not protesting, it's preaching to the choir.
@Alaskaslim Not to be rude but that's actually a pretty ignorant statement and just shows you really don't understand this music or the people who listen to it. Napalm Death has done benefit concerts to stop abuse to animals. There was a Death Metal festival a couple months ago for abandoned cats, Agnostic front has done concerts for children with aids, COC and Megadeth are politically active to incourage voting. Jello Biafra is a huge activist, and Joey of DOA is a leader of the Green party.
@Alaskaslim That's fine if you can't handle it, but there are plenty of us who can. The problem with the bands you listed is most people don't care what they're singing about as long as it's catchy. Ask most people what a popular song is about and most of them will reply they don't care, or they don't know, it just has a nice beat. Most of the bands you listed , eg. Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, are so about image that most people can't take them seriously even when they are being serious.
@gregsvoice666 I'm sorry but those bands are more worried about their make-up, clothes, and rock star image. The meaning of any of their songs is lost in translation because their fanbase is made up of people who just want to "rock out" and have a good time. The fan base of Twisted sister and Bon Jovi doesn't care about subject matter they just want music that's fun, where as the fan base for this type of music wants music they can relate to, Lyrics are a huge part of Hardcore punk/metal
These guys aren't skinheads are they? cause that would be a shame, I always thought there music was badass. I don't think I would listen to it any more if they are.
@joeymvanostrand Thats good to hear, I don't know much about them I never owned one of there albums but always rocked out when I heard em'. I feel pretty dumb for asking, never crossed my mind that they might just be balding. Duh right?! I hope the rock gods can forgive me. Xp

@Alaskaslim

Cool video and killer riff. Met Gary in a pub the other night and he was very laid back and cool.

These guys aren't skinheads are they? cause that would be a shame, I always thought there music was badass. I don't think I would listen to it any more if they are.
