  • they taste better than chicken if you know how to cook them.we don't have that problem in central america

  • I agree in being humane. Use a high powered air rifle (1100 feet per second or greater) And be a skilled enough marksman to achieve a clean brain shot.

But first decide if its really necessary to kill them at all.

  • well if they want a pet iguana it would be easy to get one without paying atleast xD

  • My brother and I actually found one that let us get really close to it when it was grazing. I like aggressive pets for some reason, I want to get a monitor lizard or a tegu some day.

  • We found a lot of these in Mexico, fun to watch. We found one male in the Mayan ruins by our resort that was 4 feet long or more!!! He refused to leave his rock while we were taking pictures of them. My brother and I followed one around while it was grazing. If I lived there I'd be keeping them as pets!

  • Very cool, but these kinds of iguanas make very bad pets. They're aggressive and pack a tough bite!

Best to enjoy them from a distance.

  • they do make good pets u can put them on your shoulder and they wont bite they just chill.those iguanas are different tho

  • yeah ya see them from venice to boca grand.Dumb ass boca people tryed to protect them. And know there bitching about them. They do destroy gopher tortois eggs when they take over there dens. But I guess that's what alls those rich idiots did when they over developed boca grand. You reap what ya sow. Deal with it. Boca sucks.

  • Awesome man! I'm right there with you. I've been meaning to get to Gasparilla to photograph them. It's not their fault someone let them loose and they thrive. I know they compete with and harm the native wildlife, such as the gopher tortoises, but like you said, do it humanely.

  • It's worth the trip to Gasparilla - especially if you can get some nice images and put "faces" to the critters being killed. The Tampa news did a story not too long ago on the situation. But, the angle was more towards them being pests that needed to be removed. Bummer.

  • lizards are my favorite animals and i would never kill one, but people have to, or they will continue to harm native species, still i never would

  • They're killing them because the iguanas eat the landscaping, dig burrows in the sand dunes and in people's yards, and poop all over the island. Not a good enough reason, I believe. Though there are no natural predators to keep the iguanas' numbers in check. There are humane solutions to this problem.

Florida has a serious problem with introduced reptile species. Will iguanas become as common as the Brown Anole?

Google "Iguana Invasion" to find out more.

  • Why are they killing them? They don't look to be harming anyone, some humans are just cruel.

  • See my comment below for why they are killing the iguanas.

  • Yes, I understood that from your vid, that u don't want them killed. And you're right - if they have to kill them, thay can at least do it humane.

I like the message of the vid. It reminds me of the Greenpeace Cinema spots.

  • Nice vid. But I don't think, killing them is the right thing to do. Sell them or so, or let them live. Why do you have to get rid of them? Humans infested the whole planet, so why killing Iguanas just because they are on one spot?

    Iguanas shall reign >=D

  • I don't want them killed either, but there are many who do. And they're using whatever means to get the job done. I figure if they have to kill some of them, at least be humane about it.

Also, I agree that capturing and then selling them would be a good idea. However, black spiny tailed iguanas don't make good pets. It's been tried. They have a bad temperment.

  • Yes very cool and they don't belong in Florida. I hope the trapper the island had to hire to deal with the problem is effective.

  • oh yeah i went kayaking in florida in the swamp, t was swarming with them. My uncle saw one 9 feet long by the way, and he's sure it wasn't an alligator. I tried to catch some over by the canals in Ft. Lauderdale, where there are different kinds or lizards everywhere ( and manatees apparently). They had one smoothlooking green lizard that kept going back to the road posts and looking at cars and standing up on its back legs. They were pretty and should getting treated right.

  • That smooth looking green lizard that stood up on its back legs was probably a basillisk (sp?) or Jesus lizard. South Florida has so many introduced species of reptiles now. Not just the green iguanas, but plenty more.

  • Very cool video! I hope they stop killing them, that's so sad.
