A-VTEC continues deployment in the J37 motors and ? exists in some of the newer 4 bangers...HONDA's not made a big marketing splash about this remarkable design.
Also, HPD is not about production vehicles (directly), but indirectly. HONDA's engineering intensive, racing tradition & R&D gets pushed down to the production level, but that's not HPD's primary focus...they develop & produce world-class race power plants that overtook the IRL competition and that quickly won across the ALMS.
@tbdaemon, turbos ostensibly are old-school, and never have been HONDA's vision...good thing. VTEC, VVI, and super high flow head designs for example, all demonstrate how HONDA became a trendsetter others now follow in pursuit of higher output per displacement. HONDA continues to lead the charge for the blend of performance with uncompromised reliability and economy, something certain other auto firms still view from afar. Big displacement motors are enjoying their last hoorah.
@Snookynibbles Never did I ever mention displacement. Also, though enthusiasts like a healthy dose of engineering wizardry in their vehicles, Honda continues to fail at delivering cars that stoke their passions. The S2000 is being canned, the NSX has been dead for years, the Civic Type R is dying slowly (and has never been sold state-side) just like the Civic Si and its Acura brand is largely uncompetitive.
@Snookynibbles Part 2 - had Honda used any of the engine variants that they use in their race cars (like a turbo 6 or a flat-plane v8), ESPECIALLY in a rear-drive layout, that would garner the brand some serious attention. Just look at all the buzz the Toyota 86 made and before that!
Enough of the "hey, we race, too" BS. Honda serves up grits and pablum to the US market, and sells better vehicles overseas. Or did. The new Euro Accord is a step back. C'mon, give us a worthy successor to the incredible DC5, perhaps the last best car Honda/Acura sold in the US.
engineer :"so heres the plan boys!!, we make a small displacement engine, give it decent horsepower, but no usable torque whatsoever, and we cram it in a shitty plastic ugly box and stick a Honda badge on it! got it!!?" .. Honda just doesnt make great cars anymore..
So how do I get a tour?

Turbo V6's and flat-plane V8's - NONE OF WHICH will ever make it into a production car!

honda all day. i love to have a day in that factory.

They don't make any sports cars, no rear wheel drive cars or V8s. I'm talking production cars, race cars don't count.

Honda is going the way of Acura - 0 performance models and ugly styling

If u got so many v8 and turbos lay around why not put some into limited production cars?

If only Honda would put out a nice mid engine sports car again with that 450hp V6 then Honda wouldn't be as boring.

@cb7pwn and what sucks the most is that they've gone from spectacularly cheap, to pretty cheap, to so so, to pricey, to wayy too fucking overpriced.

Who knows when they will actually apply that knowledge into a vehicle.

ask them where the hell is the S2000 or the NSX replacement ... all their cars now are bland POS

They still have the type r hondas outside us and the fd2 civic is great for racing from stock form

@TheVtieg6
Even though the FD2/FA5 are discontinued now and a new gen of Civic's carry on. Honda really lost their heritage.
Don't forget the FD2/FA5 are WAYYY overpriced.
