  • To bad lawn mower had no compression ,I'm new on YouTube and I work on mowers to come check out my channel please don't have much on it yet though

  • Wow. Never seen an engine sideways in a tractor before.

  • Its not the fact that its a craftsman, its the fact that it probably been sitting for only you know how long on the steering problem.

  • Hey Lynol, Could possibly give me the belt lengths on that. I just got an LTV 10 with no drive belts and the model no. is missing. It has two belts. Thanks

  • "Consider this a guide on how to waste your time, Thanks for joinin' us!" hahaha I laughed my ass off at that

  • I got an old 5 hp Briggs on a water pump. I'll let it set for about 2 years at the time. Everytime I go to fire it up I have to snatch the head off and spray a little WD40 in the valves and tap them with hammer to loosen them up again. Never fails. Runs like a top though.

  • I'll buy it for 25 bucks I have a early 60's model

  • do you still have the mower

  • did you get a new steering mechinisim or how ever you spell it

  • hi my name is keven, it looks like you are an expert when it comes to lawn tractors, one question i have a crafts man lt 1000 the engine does not start, it trys to but then it goes dead, if you understand whart i mean please give a suggestion on if i should fix or not? thank you

  • haha, I hate no compression

  • poor a little bit of oil in the cylinder that will give it a little bit of compression.

  • r they for sale

  • Those flat heads tend to burn valves a lot more than OHV.

  • i will agree on the fucking briggs they are a pice of shit i have tow tractors with them and both are a pice of shit.

  • walaa now you have a machine that puffs air in and out of the carburetor and exhaust

  • Are you guys gonna make a video update for this thing.

  • LOOK LIKE THE BACK TIRE IN NEW !

  • I DID USE TO HAVE A OLD WHITE LAWN MOWER DON'T KNOW THE HORES POWER.

  • does it move

  • 3:25 : LOL ! silicon spray into the intake , i do the same thing ... Hahah !

  • How much for the rest? If u for in a 10hp kolar, I might buy it.

  • sounds like it could use some seals on the piston

  • im trying to see if any one knows what voltage battery a murray 38" model #38515x92 wide body 12.5 horse b&s engine has...i have to jump mine with my car to start it...do riding mowers have alternators or does the battery just hold a charge?...should i use a trickle charger to charge it?

  • @dustinwirebaugh it would be 12v and yes riding mowers have alternators and you do not have to trickle charge it

  • would u consider selling the sears suburban, i saw it in the background at the beginning?

  • Do not say that Briggs and stratton engines are crap I have one 42 year old briggs on one of my tractors and it is still going strong

  • My friend and I are fixin up one of those this summer!!! GIVING IT NEW PAINT, ENGINE IS GOOD, AND NEEDS A TRANNY!!!

  • Benavent its a SHILTES'T village!!! A big SHILT!!!

  • how do you tell what year a tecumseh motor is?

  • 10 horse peice of s@#$

  • this is a true crapsman! lol

I'd just grab a 10 horse briggs off an LT10 and throw it on there. They go for like 25 bucks or for free in my area, mostly because they're completely rusted or beat to death by the previous owner. I had a crapsman and I'd never go back, but I admit some of their older stuff was good (all the roper GTs)

  • the last 6 seconds of this video is priceless.

  • would a 1987 briggs 10hp vertical shaft have an oil sensor/switch ?

mine is running really low on oil now my starter doesn't get any power from the battery and its driving me nuts trying to figure it out, i checked ALL the wiring and it looks perfect except my ignition switch which is out and my friend who took it out refuses to tell me how to put it back in

    Thanks

  • ive told you in an earlier post..these engines are bad for stuck Valves..

take breather of engine side spray

wd40 in and around valve tappet bases

take a needle nose pliers and gently turn

valve (twist) until it moves..i bet the engine

will fire right up..no compression equals

    NO RUN!!!

  • @OSCALETRAINGUY Yeah, this things been fixed for a long time now, it was a burnt valve. Runs pretty good now. I know what you mean about the stuck valves, I've had it happen on these B&S flatheads a lot.

  • LynolsOffice

the steering didnt work at first becuase the tractor was in a hole hah and try fixing a 6,000 pound tractor lol... that wasnt easy! especialy when you have a wheel that is hanging on by one bolt it was a New holland TN80f

  • i wonder what would happen if you drove it with only the starter

  • im having troublw with tow engines i have. they both have no compression. i opened them up and all the parts look fine. what could be the deal with these engines...

  • Could be a valve problem (that's what was wrong with this one) could be a head gasket too. Sometimes it's hard to tell if a part is bad just by looking at it.

  • not craftsman crapman!!

  • hey lynol, just got me one of those, i like them but if you dont take care of them they could go to shit really fast. Do you think if I attached a plow to the front, it would plow ok?

  • dotn plow with a crapsman get a WHEEL HORSE!

  • you best be bettin that I have been trying to find a nice wheelhorse for a longgg time haha

  • YO I LOVE THAT TRACTOR!!!!

  • I had a old MTD lawn tractor with a 11.5HP engine that I put it on my 1976 sears lawn tractor but wouldn't start so I rebuilt the engine and figure out it was the magneto... so im guessing its your lawn tractors magneto (coil) that is the problem or it the condenser if it has one

  • I got a Craftsman 11hp lt11 1981

  • hey don't dis briggs the owner of that mower probably didn't take care to check the oil or keep it nice

  • I have a YTV16 Craftsman riding mower. I need a 3 speed transaxle or parts to repair, i.e. broken gears. I sent an earlier messgae before I watched this vid on your LTV10. Let me know if you have parts or know of anyone who does. Thanks!! =]

  • I have a ltv-11 with vari drive. The belt slips off the vari drive if i put it in slow. I think the belt is streched. I like the tractor though

  • Comment removed

  • theres nothing wrong with tractor..FIX IT

one of the valves is stuck open from sitting outside in dampness..take heas off

decarb piston top valves head and seal

turn valves around and around using your

fingers put head back on and shell run..trust me...Cheers

  • i have a 15 hp briggs I/C OHV and the flywheel went out .you guys wouldn't happen to have a replacement would you,i need a hood also if guys have a junker laying around.

  • Your flywheel broke? I might have one, message me with the model, type and code off the engine and I'll check my parts. Also, what kind of hood do you need?

  • i have already gotten the parts.and it is running like a sewing machine.thanks

  • Blew a head gasket my dads did the same and he blamed it on the Tecumseh so he bought a honda that replaced it and gave me the engine it took me 25 mins and a trip to the local parts store and i got it running. The honda he bought for it died 2 weeks later. and the 15 year old Tecumseh went back on it.

  • weird, my dad had the same exact tractor as that (he bought it new) that had a 10hp Tecumseh engine. We only got rid of it because the tranny blew. it still ran perfect. Come to think of it, so does my 1973 toro pushmower with the tecumseh (dad got it in 1975)...has only had the head gasket changed. We also have a 1981 toro 421 snowblower with the Tecumseh engine and it runs great (starts on the first pull too) and has its original spark plug to this day. I've had good luck with their engines.

  • Those old Tecumsehs were really good, but the newer ones had problems, and they just got worse and worse. And eventually drove themselves out of business.

  • Lets blow the head off of it with this starter fluid lol

  • The starter fluid didn't do it, in fact I reused the head gasket when I put it back together after fixing the valve! I had a hard time telling the 2 LTV-10s I had apart, then I remembered this was the one that died about an hour after I bought it, and that's why it was dumped here. Ended up having a bad valve (exhaust i think) runs good now.

  • did u guys find what was wrong besides compression

  • It was a bad valve causing it not to have compression. It works fine now; It's actually been fixed for a while, this vids over a year old.

  • where do u get all of those mowers!!

  • try making a video of you riding it.

  • I know, I want t make a vid of it driving. The thing has been fixed for months now, and I have only used it like twice since the repair!

  • My keyboard keys were kinda sticking, I meant to say if it blows up, it blows up. And I misspelled "gonna".

  • Well, I have given up trying to get the pulley off, I'm just gaonnrun it as is, if it blows up, it blows u. I have a 12 hp briggs I can stick on it in case that happens. I'm also swapping out he two speed for a 5 out of a murray. Also, unrelated topic, I have a 94 Wizard 38 cut 12 hp briggs sold by Western Auto, how much you think its worth, its in really good shape and runs great!! I hate to sell it, but I don't need it.

  • rings are most likely shot in it

  • It was a valve. I don't even remember which one I fixed it so long ago. Runs good now!

  • ..pulley I can use as a replacement?? Just in case I have to go this route. Thanks again, Erik in Texas

  • Hmmm... It's been so long since I pulled a motor on one of these LTVs I forgot what the pulleys look like. I can't remember if they're different on these or if they are the same as all the other Craftsmans. You can get a diagram and a part number from Sear's parts direct website if you enter in the model number.

  • Yeah, I was afraid of that, I think I am gonna have to cut it in half to get it off, but I don't have another pulley for it. If I had a torch I would use that, but since I don't.....well crap!! Thanks for the help, though, I was hoping for an idea that was so crazy I never heard of, but hey I think I might try soaking the pulley and shaft down in a bucket of oil for a few weeks and see if that helps, and in the mean time I will get a propane torch. If I half to cut it off, is there any other..

  • Thats the thing, all the valves work and the piston, I think the conrod bolts are loose. I got the motor off, but I can't get the pulley off, its so rusted on. I have drenched it in PB Blaster and tried knocking it off with a hammer, but I broke the lower pulley off, now what?? I wasn't gonna use a deck, but, I can't try hammering on it anymore. Is there anything I can do to get the stupid thing off???? I have never had this much trouble removing a pulley. Any help would be most appreciated

  • Whenever I have pulleys I can't remove, I use a mapp gas torch. You can use a propane torch too, but it doesn't work as well. Just heat the pulley up real good where it meets the shaft and keep hammering on it. Or use a wheel puller and hammer on that. When they're really on there, I usually end up wrecking the pulley. As a last resort you can do what I did once; I had one that was so bad I had to saw it in half down the middle with a cut-off wheel!

  • turns a bit, and hangs up, but when I first got the mower it wasn't doing this, my guess has to be a con-rod bolt or bolts loose, or the oil slinger is causing this. In all my years of working on these, I have never had this happen, I guess thers's a first for everthing. Also when I turn the motor backwards it makes this awful clicking sound I have never heard before etheir. Tommorow I will be tearing into this piece of crap, I found myself saying the same stuff you said in your video LOL!!

  • Sounds messed up. If it was sitting for a while, do you think it could be a stuck valve? Wouldn't explain the noise though...

  • Just an Update on my 82 LTV, well I thought it was going to be an easy fix on this thing, but guess what??

I went to turn the engine today to get the extra oil I put in the cylinder out, and low and behold, as I'm turning it by hand the motor stops, I turn back the motor a little, then go back to turning it, a few turns again and the same thing. So, next time it did it, I put a pry bar on the flywheel and force it to turn, it made a little pop inside, the motor still turns freely and it still

  • thats a old tractor.

  • It was only 3 years they made it, wow it sucked!! I have had the towtruck idea for awhile, but it took me awhile to find a suitable Rusty POS for it, lol!!! I think that companion would do it nicely. I'm planning on using a boat trailer hand winch on mine. I even have a boat trailer thats going to get cut up for it, and also so I can some steel to make me a truck bumper hahaha!!! You guys are awesome!!

  • I used to have one of those years ago, in fact i just picked up an 82 LTV/10 the other day, its soild rust except the for the hood(fibreglass), in fact also the motor is in good shape, I have almost finished putting it back together, I'm hoping to start it soon. Those LTVs are retarded slow, but I believe they can pull well. stupid two speed trans, what was they thinking!!! Anyway, I'm in the process of turning it into a towtruck tractor, with a wrecker style boom on the back. I like it rusty!!

  • Yeah, no wonder why they only made the LTV system for like 3 years. That tow truck tractor sounds like a great idea. I have a 18hp Sears Companion I want to do that with. I got a winch for it and everything, just need to find some time to actually do it!

  • man i love srewing with thoes old lawn mowers

  • that is a nice tractor

  • I thought the metal parts of the engine would completely rust or wear out overtime and jeopardize the stability of the engine. Then I read in your description that the only problem was a burnt valve. Since that day, was you able to drive it around your yard? There has to be a happy ending somewhere.

  • The inside of the engine looks surprisingly good for an aluminum cylinder. This thing does run and drive now, although it could use a carb rebuild. It's winterized currently, but I will have to take a video of it in the spring.

  • is one of the valves sticking.

  • It was a burned valve, this thing has been fixed for a while now.

  • I figured that. Atleast its fixed

  • How much do you want for that piece of shit. I'm interested

  • $65

  • What the hell is your problem?

  • ajtheman911's problem is he has no basic life skills and somehow managed to find a site with a comment box. There is hope however. Someday he'll get a job cleaning toilets. Unfortunately, he's more likely to walk into traffic and become another statistic.

  • Lol yup!

  • Nice vid lynol!

  • 'little red wagon' !?!?!

All i saw was rust :P

  • LoL! I have been told it was red at one time.

  • Don't think I needed to know THAT about you... oh wait yuo were talking about the wagon :D

  • show us how to break down and rebuild an engine trouble shoot etc. You are great

    Ferd

  • will u give me a riding lawn mower without a deck that runs? im 2poor 2 even buy a used 1. i know alot about engines and how 2 fix them just dont have ne money for parts or ne thing. plz rply if u can.

  • Sorry, I'm not in IL. You might try looking on craigslist in your area, I've got a few for free out of Craigslist here, one of them even ran! Also got a few from the dump and the side of the road over the years.

  • ok man thanks

  • I here it whistling there's prob a hole in the block Briggs are know for Holes in blocks

  • Naw, no hole in the block, it was a burnt valve. I'll have to get a vid of it running up here soon.

  • Dude that tractor looks like a real piece of shit.

  • It looks like a pice of shit because it is. But at least it runs now lol!

  • Dude i have a motgumry ward rider 11horse that i got for free but its been sitting for a while how much do u think it worth not running but it was built in the late 60s early 70s please reply

  • Even if it's not running it could be worth some money. Maybe more than $100 if it's not too rusty. In the 1960's and 1970's those Montgomery Ward tractors were built by Gilson, as well as Allis-Chalmers, so they're very well made and collectable.

  • lol i almost bought that exact same tractor with a plow. Im glad I didnt but im still looking for a tractor w/ a plow and a mower deck for under 400 HELP

  • lol "10 horse piece of shit, fuckin briggs"

  • Where do you live?

  • the blocks cracked

  • No, the blocks OK. Just a bad valve. I'll post a video of it soon.

  • did you get it fixed yet?

  • Oh yeah, a long time a ago. I'll have to make of vid of her running.

  • ok. thanks. do you plan on selling it?

  • It has some compression!! What do you expect of a machine that's been sitting outside uncovered for who knows how long(a year or more)?!?! Wow!! Check the compression properly by pulling the plug and using a compression tester!! Hmmm... maybe you don't have one...

  • The reason it sat outside WAS because it had lost compression and didn't run. I checked it with a gage before I repaired it and it had NO compression. The needle barely moved. I replaced the exhaust valve and it's fine now.

  • The head look like it's newer cheak and see if their's a head gasket

  • pull the head, the valve's stuck open guaranteed. that or rod's broke

  • It was a burned valve. (I think it was the exhaust valve)

  • it was a close guess tho lol. had you already done it or did you do it after i said somethin?

  • Naw, this videos old now, this things been done for a while.

  • thats true

  • Valve seat lose and stuck sideways under the valve.

  • p.o.s tractor

  • Gotta love the comments at the end: "10 horse pos", "fucking briggs", "time waste!". I laughed because that's exactly what I've said while working on these things...

  • want to get rid of it i have 2 one LTV/10 and a GTV/18 i need parts

  • u should use some wd40 on the steering shaft and gears

  • do you know the spark plug code for the 10hp? my rallys got a weird japanese plug that i need to replace.

  • Should be a CJ-8 for an old 10hp B&S.

  • ok, thanks.

  • is there a spark plug in there

  • lol. yes there is. It's covered by that black boot.

  • Damn thats a mad engine!

  • I love those old tractors with the shifter in the floor. You gotta get it going.

  • i love my LTV/10!

  • I have an 1984 LT 11 and it is the best tractor and is really fun to drive

  • i have the same tractor

  • i got that got it runing turned just as fast off my car batteriey. it started after i took the choke off and i just had it on full throttle

  • Yeah, I took this thing apart, it's got a burned vavlve, that's why it had no compression. Now I just need to break down and buy a new valve!

  • i got one like that but with a 16hp

  • Aww man, thats the one I want this to be! a 16.

  • I derby it and its one good lawn mower

  • I think you've got a burned valve

  • Well I took it apart last week and that does appear to be the problem; the exhaust valve doesn't seat right and looks toasted. Now I'm just waiting on parts. It's hard to get stuff for these old motors now.

  • Oh sorry I see it now

  • sorry if this may sound stuiped but I dont see a spark plug ?

  • maybe the valves are stuck open from sittng too long

  • I love Tecumseh motors, they are fun when you run bleach in the oil and run them about 7000-8000rpm.

  • I swear to god, it would be easyer if you covered them. then stuff like levers and stearing don't sieze

  • I used to have them covered, and they still siezed, and animals made homes under the covers!

  • lol. you just can't win!

  • Thoses wire jumper packs rock! Makes starting things 10x easier...

  • I agree that B&S sucks. But they're plentifull and cheap and I usually find them broken, so thier free. But besides my vintage Tecumseh motors, all new ones I've seen are all totaly dead and not rebuildable. Especially the Snow King series with thier plastic carbs! And the OHV ones are so hard to work on, I don't even bother with them anymore.

  • briggs and stratton do not suck, they ran longer than tecumseh engines, i used to have a LT10, and it has a tecumseh engine in it, it ran for almost 2 years till the mechanical oil pump failed and it threw a rod, i swap it with B&S engine, and it ran like a top, i even got a trash find 1990 MTD mower and it has a briggs engine on it, i mowed with for 4 years, never smoked, 4 years later after i had it, it smokes now, because of a leaky lifter seal, but it still runs like a champ

  • I meant that they suck compared to Kohler, Kawasaki and Honda. But i still think B&S motors are far better than Tecumseh. I know several people who had snow throwers with Tecumseh motors on them, and even with care a maintenance, they only lasted a few seasons before needing to be replaced. Thats why I don't have too much stuff with Tecumsehs on them, they all died and got replaced with Briggs & Stratton motors!

  • LoL, yea my snowthrower has a shitty tecumseh engine on it, and it havent broked in yet, only has like 3 hours on the engine, so wanna know something stupid about these snowthrowers, they don't have air cleaners on them at all, that surprise the shit out of me, in the winter, no dirt or dust, but my main concern is the mosture or dust when it sits in the garage during summer days, hell i stuff a clean rag in the carb intake, and cover it up till the next snow season

  • i like that style of steering wheel

  • Probably a stuck valve, doesn't sound like a thrown rod to me.

  • Now that I remember this thing, I was on it when it died in 2004. Just stopped like I had shut it off. So yeah, hopefully a valve issue.

  • Dang thats been sitting a while ( sunk in the ground) - Looks like someone hob jobbed the plate on the right side there. Its weird how those motors are set sideways- cant get used to that. Are y sure it has no compression? Y can hear the weeze from the muffler- it sounds like the magneto died tho- no spark. I have a couple tractors that turn over quite easily like that and run fine. I like that style of craftsman- hope to find one sometime.

  • yeah, perhaps it has a very little bit of copmpression, but not enough to combust. I can litterally turn the motor with one finger on the screen. None of my 10's are that easy.

  • that motor is shit. i have 1980 11HP Briggs and the fucker has too much compression giving it more horse. Check out my vids.

  • I saw that one. I usually have that problem with Tecumseh motors. I don't care much for B&S or Tecumseh motors. I like Honda and Kohler better. At least B&S motors are cheap and easy to work on!

  • lol ok. I prefer Tecumseh...I dont really like Briggs. And yeah I like Kohler too but they are bitches to work on.

  • You PREFER Tecumseh!? you gotta be kidding me. I don't know any small engine guy around here who likes them at all. All the shops say they hate them, always failing, and a pain to work on. I steer clear of them (1980's and up that is). And Kohlers are also realy expensive to work on, lol!

  • yeah I have NEVER experienced a problem with a Tecumseh engine. I own some Tecumseh clothing gear to be honest. Every Briggs engine I have owned are pretty much shitty and always seem to be giving me trouble.
