  • The more I consider the Brit Music scene of the 60s, the more I realise that The Kinks (due mostly to Ray Davies) were superior to all. Love this ... esp. that Beach Boys-ey falsetto.

    Thanks for posting

  • This song is truly genious. It's a reveal that is so damn bad, but it makes a good point, and for a good reason. The person who sings (not ray, the person from the song) is so simple and so amazed by something so simply beautiful... Again, I'm sorry for what my g-g-g-g-g-generation has done to music.

  • amazing song, aint no better :)

  • The melody is just so damn beautiful, love this song.

  • @Tourist1967 The Kinks and The Beatles are the best, although Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys is my favorite album of all time. As for The Rolling Stones, they have some great songs but I don't really like them much.

And please, people, listen. I'm sorry to what people from my age (14 years) done to music. I am truly sad that I read @xoxobieberrfannxoxo 's comment. I'm truly sad. • The Kinks rule! One of the best bands ever!

  • Obviously the Like -meter over heated and exploded !

  • @633squadrongoodwin Best comment EVER!! :D

  • sounds like the music in spongebob

  • All people sound like fools when thay speak in superlatives, You havn't heard it all, but you know what is best? What a joke.

  • @MrAccessallareas

    Your comment is a superlative.

  • one of the best in english music

  • The Beatles blatently weren't the best band of the 60s...

  • @kowetas you blatently don't know a lot about the 60's

  • @kowetas thats obviously a fucking opinion. there is no ''best band'' in any situation.

  • @drjoshuab11 but... in this case the beatles were the best band of the 60's, by like miles. followed by the likes of the hendrix experience, stones, the who, kinks were good but had gaps between albums and weren't very consistent. However, this song is simply lovely

  • @lees2oo8 Yes, but it's still an opinion. Yes, I will grant that most people think that The Beatles were "the best" (based on a wide array of factors like overall virtuosity, sales influence, etc.) but I could sit here and document all the reasons why I think the Kinks are better than The Beatles - more raw and primal on their early records, more poignant and nuanced on their later ones, punchier satire, more sensitive lyrics - it's a matter of preference and what you value personally.

  • @PlaceSoFarAway listen man, ya can spend all night trying to convince me and everyone else on here, all's i can say is the majority of the world knows the beatles were the 60's, the beatles decided to make a psychedelic album... everyone did, everytime the beatles spoke a word or made a move the whole world stopped to take interest, no other band will ever compare.

  • @lees2oo8 except the Kinks! duhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • @lees2oo8 Hey there. I'm not trying to convince you of anything. I already said that most people would say the Beatles were the "best' band to come out of the 60's. All I did was state my opinion that in certain aspects, the Kinks excel The Beatles. And no, not everyone did something because the Beatles were doing it. In fact, many of the top-tier bands influenced EACH OTHER (with the Beatles often leading the way), Also, the Kinks never made an overtly psychedelic album. In fact,...

  • @PlaceSoFarAway (follow up from last message) it's well-known that the Kinks made a decidedly non-psychedelic album (Village Green Preservation Society) at the height of the psychedelic craze, one which is only growing and growing in stature over the years. Yes, the Beatles were incredible. However, there were many great bands in the 60's that don't always get their props because the Beatles are often the easy "go-to" band to represent that era.

  • @PlaceSoFarAway Oh, and as an aside - it was THIS song (not something by the beatles) that won BEST POP SONG EVER in a recent british poll. Take that for what it's worth... (I think it was NME?)

  • I'm only 3 and I like this song.

  • This song troubles me greatly only because I think I will never hear another song that makes me feel like this.

  • @xoxobieberrfannxoxo trololololo

  • @xoxobieberrfannxoxo You're a terrible troll.

  • @xoxobieberrfannxoxo And in 60 years time will you be saying the same to people still listening to this bieber kid????

  • @xoxobieberrfannxoxo You are entitled to your opinions, however I find it irkesome that your severely limited taste in music means you abuse my time and intelligence with your pathetic drivel.

  • @xoxobieberrfannxoxo realy back then justin beiber WOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT because he uses things to amplify his voice back then they didnt live and studio wer the same live now meh studio good but modern singer r nothin comperd to these guys and if it wernt for the bands like the kinks and beatles justin bieber wouldn't be around because they opend the door to modern music the beatles best band ever

  • @xoxobieberrfannxoxo AHAAHAHAHHAAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHA. Good one!

  • @xoxobieberrfannxoxo I was not aware that music has an expiry date. We'll see if in 40 years Bieber is remembered.

  • this song makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and melty i am walking through a maze noww a feild now a waterfall it doesnt matter because there is music and sunshine and everyone listening tothis song is so so loved and apreiciated you i really love everyone and this kind of music really brings those feelingds into a higher conciousness for me

  • anyone kissed under the clock i worked ther 13 years an i sure did

  • As a bipolar guy who is a musician (with a dayjob) I love Ray Davies, one of the greatest songwriters of all time who is bipolar, He wrote this song. In terms of vocal perfomance of this song, I have to give it up to Joe Elliott of Def Leppard on his bands version though, He just sang it better on that recording, out of respect for Rays songwriting genius. I have heard Ray Davies perform this song in more recent years and he sang it so much better than on the recording.

  • I still preferring the Def Leppard version :)

  • This song makes me sway!

  • fucking mcdonalds advert on it

  • :) Goosebumps :)

  • Buena Rola.

  • this song makes me cry tears of happiness and sadness

  • @Themsbeatlesrock You know it. It makes me ache but in a good way. Although it's timeless it takes me right back.

  • great song.

  • You know its a good song when its 15 seconds in and your already sold.

  • @IggyM Oh hell yes, except I was sold five seconds in. No lie.

  • @IggyM =)

  • i'm sick to death of adverts

  • @Barsaleona Get firefox and adblocker

  • Gosh... this might just be the most beautiful song ever... almost makes me cry :')

  • Best song ever recorded?............I reckon.

  • I'd say that the Kinks are Rock's Most important band of all time - Arthur, Lola, and Muswell,..of course the brilliance of Percy and "God's Children" and "The Way love used to be" ,...but their biggest Moment has to be "He's Evil" from Preservation 2,...Wow !! What a brilliant 'evolving' band with melodic great songs and "ahead of their time' amp settings and guitars,...just listen to the entire Lola album ,..its way ahead of The who and Zep and even maybe the Stones - The kinks rule ,.. !! !

  • Ratings disabled? They deserve more props than that little green bar would gratify. Impeccable songwriters.

  • i am in paradise...

  • best song about london, should be the Olympics anthem

  • as long as i gaze on Waterloo Sunset I am in paradise

  • this is by far one of my favorite songs of all time

  • ah, the general zod scandal.

  • This song makes me warm on the inside, most likely why I hum is all the time.

  • Its always the little things :)

  • Ahh my happy song :)

  • This was no.1 when I started Art College, we all walked across Warterloo bridge that week, how lucky was I (my now wife was there too, like I said, how lucky).....

  • that old, but still so goooooood

  • I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH!!

  • I have the original album, thanks to my dad. :)

  • Terrific song

  • Just faultless, a total total classic piece of english popular music.

  • Really rythmic with integrated instrumentation. So,so goodge street.

  • @mrniggerbaiter fuckin wicked name!

  • my favourite song of all time ;)

  • My belly is tinteling... I am going to replay it.

  • Beautiful....

  • My little brothers best song, Rest in peace little one.

  • @starmanoatlands Hope and hope your little brother rests in peace. And you find peace.

  • @starmanoatlands Why have 4 people voted this down?

  • @Cr33perville Uhhh, because it's the most over-rated song in the history of rock, maybe?? Juvenile sing-song melody. Total absence of rocking rhythm guitar. One-handed drumming. This would be a good B-side to a Paul McCartney and Wings single. Maybe Linda could have sung the lead.

  • @johnbleroy It isn't rock mate. At the time it would've been hard to say that this is rock; Ray Davies and the Kinks were an RnB band - might be hard to visualise now with what we call RnB nowadays, but this is either British Popular Music or RnB. Just because they have guitars, doesn't mean it's rock. Even the Who were an RnB band at the time.

  • @starmanoatlands sorry to hear that man but he had great taste thats a rare thing these days

  • @starmanoatlands

    how did he die?

  • Perfect.

  • happy birthday Ray!

  • Thumb up if you are French and you watched this at school :D

  • @mortyville lol I'm french but unfortunately I didn't watch this at school xD

  • ONE GREAT POP SONG...BY A GREAT BAND..

  • This song became the "our song" for me and my wife, displacing the Turtles' "Happy Together," another fine song. But "Waterloo" is a masterpiece. We've been married nearly 44 years.

  • what a lovely song

  • I love how this video is under the 'Education' category.

  • thats how to write a song. magnificent.

  • @seamanandswallow You've never got high!

  • @seamanandswallow And you are a cunt!

  • @seamanandswallow your face is an awful song. your face is an awful band get the fuck outta here with thats bullshit

  • this is an absolute work of art

  • thank god my parents grew up in the sixties, i could even like myself i had to listen to lady gaga and justin bieber.

  • This song just has such an intangible greatness. Never get tired of it. I'd put it in a list of 10 greatest songs by anyone ever.

  • Wonderful - one of the most magical songs of the 60s

  • Beaultiful

  • Love this song - reminds me of busy, dirty but fabulous London, packed tube station and two lovers walking arm in arm, oblivious to the crowds. I know it's said this song is about being content with loneliness, but I think the singer is just a little bit jealous of Terry and Julie :-)

  • @amyeruse Did you know that Terry and Julie were Terence Stamp and Julie Christie who were a couple when this song was written?

  • @loubylou55

Did not know that, thanks for the factoid! <3

  • I'll take Ray Davies over John Lennon, and Paul Mccartney any day.

  • Saw The Kinks play in London a long time ago and when they did this song I was in paradise!

  • One of my favourite Kinks songs

  • Dirty old river, must you keep rolling, rolling into the night

People so busy make me feel dizzy, taxi lights shine so bright

But i don't need no friends

As long as i gaze on Waterloo Sunset, i am in paradise Every day i look at the world from my window waterloo The chilly-chilliest evening time, Waterloo sunset's fine.

  • The kinks r one of my favorite bands of all time

  • Great song that's rarely played on mainstream FM oldies stations nowadays. Thanks for this upload!

  • I remember this, when it first came out. He makes me feel old!

  • @AGDH1 My God, you're lucky. I can only imagine growing up in a time when music this great was the mainstream! There are still plenty of great new bands coming out, but now you've got to dig for the quality stuff a bit. But back then, this was THE music of the times! This and the Beatles and Simon&Garfunkel, etc. You lucky dog! Stop complaining, haha.

  • here on top of the pop, you could say it's time for old time, as we listen to revived live, waterloo sunset, by, THE KINKS!!!

    anyone?

  • Not many bands have the same songcraft ability these days. If you'd like to check out a new band that does then try an Australian band called July Days - they are on youtube - search ....

JULY DAYS - ELECTRIC LOVE - OFFICIAL VIDEO

    .....love & peace xxx

  • according to david gilmore , the perfect pop song

  • Every note justifies its inclusion. Every word has love and beauty going through it. Every image conjured up is majestic. Whatever angle you look at it from, however you wish to perceive this song, be in no doubt - 'Waterloo Sunset' is a masterpiece.

  • THIS IS NOT BEATLES!
