the beginning is from the song get of my yard. The e string is normal, but the b string is tuned in e4 and the g string is tuned down to e3. its not that hard to play
god life's a bitch... would u imagine jason becker at his best, in this f***ng concerts that would be just out of this world, just imagine becker doing his sweeps,PG doin some alternate pickin and mr satch being just him,he's fuc**g cool and not to say amazing
I believe that wasn't really sweeping, but his last 3 strings were tuned to at least 1 octave each (G at one octave, B at a higher octave, and high E at the highest octave) making it sound like he is sweeping, at least that what he said he did.
He is an insane sweeper, but it's not something he uses very often, or is good at compared to the rest of his guitar playing. That guitarist from Symphony X, now can fucking SWEEP!
Paul Gilbert very rarely sweeps. He says in one of his videos that he never practised/practises them. The very few times he sweeps, it's basically the same thing. Although his string-skipping is insane!!
How you can say that arguably the best sweep picking guitarist since Becker himself can't play Serrana well is beyond me, it's flawless. Yngwie can sweep but he's not a patch on Becker or Gilbert.
BTW, that ain't sweep picking. PG's "Get Out of My Yard" intro is done with three strings and all hammers and some picking. "Serrana" is all sweep picking.
GIlbert is scary. THink of him in this light. The 19802 were the shred years in there heydey and he was admittedly atthe top of his game. THe 1990s saw a drop in popularity with shredding staying alive thru mainly Vai and Satch carrying on G3. Mr. Big was gaining success and Paul wrote some great tunes showing he wasnt just a chops man. Now the shred is back in full swing . ! GO Paul
Saw em last night in Boston. Awesssoooooome! Can't wait for a dvd release. Buy the way, Gilbert's mixing and sound quality kicked everyone elses asses.
I was there at boston last night, and i got to say that paul gilberts overall sound was so much better than others. His guitar tone cut right thru perfect and everything was so clear and clean. Petrucci's band wasnt so good, you couldnt even make out the guitar most of the time.
I had the opposite experience at G3 Nashville. Petrucci's tone was perfectly clear and audible, and amazing too. Gilbert's tone barely cut through. I guess it all has to do with where you're standing.
It looks like Paul is using a small combo Laney. Thats just not cutting it but then i hear this and his tone is up front . So a good sound guy and PA makes all the differance .!
yeah same with me, i couldnt make out the notes petrucci played, that might just be because he used a lot of reverb and delay the whole time, afer he finished a song you could hear it echo back like 4 or 5 times from each side of the stage
That's not really a surprise to anyone who plays guitar. Satch writes killer melodies..catchy songs....but you won't see him play any arpeggios or stringskips that even remotely land on Paul Gilbert's planet.
Yeh well for use who know guitar we know it`s not all about arppegios and scaler run,s music is also about melody nd as much as Ilike guilbert he will never wright anything as melodic and memorable as satch . Satch`s music crosses boundaries guilbert could only dream of .
Right...and Mr. Big didn't sell a thing. Besides...it's G3, where the idea is show off extraordinary guitar talents. Save the memorable melodies for the Classical Music Festival.

PG usually string skips which gives him more control over dynamics and direction of the phrase compared to sweep picking.

what's a "serrana"?

jason becker's serrana arpeggios
guitarman069 4 years ago
Serrana was a person that meant something for JasonB. He named the arpeggios thus. And Gilbert doesn't play them well. ...Either.
