1 just kind of trips over itself. It overstepped the boundaries of the NES and so paid the price.

4 reminds me of Pokemon.

5 Sounds more like a level theme than a boss fight to me.

6 isn't a fight theme. It should be a "bad guy shows up to mock you" theme.

I like 7. It needs more content in the middle to maintain the feeling of dread it gives bosses in their entrances, but it's pretty good.

8 sounds like the boss is from another dimension.

9 could use more minor notes.

@madman101ish Why would they repeat the bosses? Different Robot Masters with different skills and patterns are the essence of Megaman, with great music on the side of course. That makes each game unique and keeps them fresh, even though the main idea remains the same.

Actually, they reused Tenguman and Astroman from the 8th game in Megaman & Bass, which seemed lazy to me.

MM5 and 6 were completely the weak links in the series, music included. I believe that MM2 is by far the best musical score in the NES era, and the SNES music from MM7 made the game worth buying all by itself. It's great to relive all of these memories, so thanks for the great post. I only wish I had found it sooner. :)

Liking the dark themes in boss fights is completely different from cutting your wrists and praying to Satan to come and kill you. The darkness in boss fights is the feeling you get from your opponent. Villains should be evil and aggressive, something you have to struggle to beat, and happy boss themes fail at giving this impression.

MM1 - 4TH - sounds like, let's bring it on!

MM2 - 1ST - like the way it sets the mood up in the intro. pure, classic boss music.

MM3 - 2ND tie - dark and mysterious.

MM4 - 2ND tie - very fast and tense. easiest to recall due to its strong intro.

MM5 - 8TH - cool, but doesn't set the mood right away.

MM6 - 5TH - good enough for me.

I like the PS1 version of the MM 8 boss theme, this is the Saturn version. There were better sounding instruments used in the PS1 version.
