Bob Avakian is trying but he's not as deep as the people who listen to him try to make him. From what I've heard he's basically a reporter and reports on the flaws of society, the system or this civilization, but he provides no tangible realistic solutions.

I'm under the impression that this talk is intended for a white audience who lived through the 60s and are disappointed that the civil rights legislation is really not that hot. You needn't tell us that you're not exaggerating - none of this is new. But maybe it is to white, heteronormative, middle-class folks, folks living comfortably, folks who don't have to endure these violences daily. I would imagine that this talk wouldn't be helpful to a lower-class, queer, disabled woman of color.

It's truly horrible that police officers are only gunning down Africans-Americans in the United States. Way too many of the blacks being gun down are totally harmless and unarmed. @platization Bob Avakian has developed program for how to make communist revolution in the U.S. He has spent decades studying the first wave of socialist revolutions, what their advances were but also their shortcomings & looking at this from many different angles. He has withstood many obstacles, included attacks from the state, many people giving up on revolution, slanders on communism and throughout all of this has managed to strengthen the possibility for revolution right here in the U.S.

You know, the thing that makes me unhappy is that Ive actually met and chatted with many of the members of this group and quite like them. Its nice to chat with people who actually KNOW history.

@Diosibundo It's my opinion that if there is an organization out there that is serious about Revolution, then you should actually put serious thought into what they are saying. I recommend watching the entire talk and maybe reading some other documents from the RCP. They have made it clear that the doing away with the oppression of Black people is a cornerstone of this revolution. BTW, this revolution should serve all of humanity not just one particular group of people.

Actually, I just met them at the May Day rallies and read a couple of their books. I've also been struggling to get though this talk (Im halfway through). So far nothing he's said I havent heard a million times before.

Its not that I disagree with what he's saying, it's that he really seems insincere.

I get the feeling Im listening to someone who's trying to capitalize on someone else's struggle in order to build a little cult around himself.

@Diosibundo Honestly, I think you're prooftexting. I don't see how you could get that at all from these talks. What makes you say that? Is it anything that he actually says that gives you that impression?  Or is it a "feeling" you get? What he IS doing is leading the movement for revolution; re-envisioning communism making it a viable, living, vibrant, and incredibly emancipatory way out of the hell of the world as it is. Isn't that something people need to check out?

Actually, you're right, it's a feeling I get. He personally comes off as spectaculary self serving and insincere, but the way the entire organization is structured feels like a cult or personality... which is kind of weird considering the personality they are building the cult around seems pretty unappealing to me.

@Diosibundo Also, you should def read Avakian's memoir. He has dedicated most of his life to the emancipation of all people (In his college years he was influenced by--and worked with--members of the Black Panther Panther Party. There's a video floating around on YouTube where you see him speaking at a Free Huey Rally in 1968). In short, to say that the Revolutionary Communist Party (or Avakian) are just "appropriating" Black people's struggle for their own benefits is just nonsense to me.

So, how does also apply to Black women who are afraid that their boys won't be ambitious, curious or self-confident, because they have been raised to the ideal of stupid, immature, macho men in rappers, NBA players and such?
