  • On the contrary, everything in this video is COMPLETELY applicable to everything today.

  • i wana watch this movie.. idc how much it coasts just to own a old film now a days i just wana watch it...there is nothing i do not agree with at all it reminds me so much of our goverment.. for example ( SOPA & PIPA ) ... T_T

  • hearing this speech today makes me sadly laugh. Look at around you : greed, vice, selfishness, cynism,... the people is so full of it today, in modern (capitalist) society. Yes, we the people have the right to think and feel as we want, yes we the people are quite free, but we prefere use it for our narcissistic ass and superficial shits than "creating happiness".. Facebook generation (and I know, I'm part of what I criticize), is just not gonna make things better... (sorry for bad english)

  • @7375U0 it´s because of egosim. ppl think too much about actions instead of doing something, because they are afraid it would put them in a bad light in society

  • Genes have control of our bodies, but love needs to control our minds.

Only way things will ever improve..

  • ok i think i need to watch this movie

  • best 4 minutes i ever spent on Youtube

  • some of Chaplain's best work

  • 0:08 Справа Штирлиц XDD

  • Lalna :P

  • Charlie for president!

  • Charly Chaplin, like all genius, was ahead of his time.

There are plenty of "dictators" in our time, they are smarter now, they control the politicians like puppets. We will never be free :(

  • MLK

"Believe that you’re somebody....nobody else can do this for us. No document can do this for us. No Lincolnian proclamation can do this for us; no Ken[nedy] sonian or Johnsonian civil rights bill can do this for us. If the negro is to be free he must move down into the inner resources of his own soul and sign, with a pen an ink of self-asserted manhood, his own Emancipation Proclamation."

Apply this these terms within yourself. If earth is to remain alive and well, PERSIST IT!

  • That means no matter how bad the storm is, no matter how long it takes, and no matter what others think

  • a message meant to touch across centuries

  • :O. (only possible reaction) (respect charly chaplin guys)

  • Absolutely amazing that this is over 70 years old and every part of this speech still applies to our modern day society, even more so in this day and age than back then, will we ever learn?

  • Comment removed

  • This speech will be applicable as long as this world has human beings on it.

  • what do you mean doesn't apply today? come out of your cave

  • awesome!

  • I don't understand how you can say this isn't applicable today

  • Play this with Inception Soundtrack HD

  • Mmm, gotta love that appeal to emotion.

  • And just HERE I dont have to read an aimless discussion about todays germans beeing nazis or not. So pleasant.

  • @Nickkraw Watch the film before running your mouth about a man whom was MUCH more successful than you'll EVER become. Don't call Charlie Chaplin a retard, you degenerate cunt.

  • Comment removed

  • Arguably my favourite film moment ever. Still holds strong relevance to contemporary times. This is what we fucking need.

  • @Nickkraw Like AzuAtoms said... please watch the movie before making assumptions. If you don't have the time, then I'll give you some information about it. A Jewish barber is mistaken for the dictator, "Adenoid Hynkel" (Adolf Hitler). The speech you see here is near the end of the movie, in which it was added after Germany invaded France. It is technically not Adenoid Hynkel or the Jewish barber saying this speech, but Chaplin's own personal message to the world.

  • @MosesMyPeople oh okay, thank you for telling me

  • I watched the film yesterday, then I watched on youtube the video showing Chaplin receiving an honorary oscar. His humility is proportionnal to his genius.

  • Comment removed

  • @Nickkraw I think you need to watch the movie before you assume that.

  • @AzuAtoms Some other guy informed me what was going on. It makes sense now.

  • @Nickkraw God ur so stupid.

  • @Nickkraw You don't understand the context in which he was giving this speech. If you ever watch this film, you will realise what a moron you sound like.

  • @mclmikebaxter Why are you all so upset with me, I'd just never even heard of the movie.

  • @Nickkraw If you had said "I must be missing something. Why would this "Hitler" type be saying these things?" Fair enough. You just hadn't seen the film. Instead you called Charlie Chaplin retarded. Oops.

  • This speech applies to every situation. Someone should pair it with Guile's theme for twice the epicness

  • "If we are to truly evolve and see humanity's greatest potential, and if we are ALL to unite with each other on a level that has not yet been seen, then the EGO needs to die. That is a struggle that we all deal with every day, especially when confidence, cockiness, and arrogance are always rewarded. But, we are starting to realize this and we are turning corner. 2012 does not represent when the world will end, but a true point of enlightenment for all of humanity", Royal Hoax.

  • Two things:

1.) There was not one word in that speech that I did not agree with. Truly a timeless speech.

    2.) 0:09 Holy shit! It's M. Bison!

  • the greatest speech ever...

  • The best humanitarian speech in history!

  • stfu sad tiny dicked nazi motherfuckin asshole losers lols

  • Replace "aeroplane and radio" with the internet. The absolute greatest invention when it comes to the universal brotherhood for the unity of us all.

  • @THEGREATMAX if S.O.P.A come into play that Internet will be no more :(

  • @THEGREATMAX I completely agree with you. Still, there's so much unneccesary hate on the internet... Give me an e-hug!

  • @XthorgoldX, Forgive me, I may not be educated on the subject you're discussing but, to suggest that the message of this speech is 'Horrendously wrong' is such a cynical thing to say....You may have studied what you're talking about but, to believe that past expirience's DO prove the futue is the reason we as people can not move forward. You're a person who might read the history book's and see what you think we are. I'm a person who read's the history book's and see's where we must change!!

  • I loved this :-D

  • It's totally applicable dumbass

  • Omar al-Bashir, Hu Jintao, Robert Mugabe, Kim Jong Il, Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov, King Abdullah... As long as humans exist, there will be humans to oppress them.

  • This is what we live with in the world today, democracy and technology he got his way

  • \o/ (speechless)

  • I think we get it now =3

  • the man who uttered no words spoke the most inspirational speech of all time.

  • @AliCee0000 The quietest people have the loudest minds

  • Ron Paul 2012!

  • a beautiful speech that will always apply

  • How...powerful! Truly one of the classics!

  • The speech applies to everything today.

  • @shaneymane15 Yeah man, I read the description and I was like wtf? This describes life in the world today perfectly.

  • @shaneymane15 Yea its funy that the only reason it even says that on the descrption, its because its from 2006

  • is this speech copyrighted? if i used it in a video would it fall under fair use? its 71 years old

  • If only everyone in the world could feel the same way. I pity the the cynical, judgmental, hate-filled, closed-minded, forceful people in this world.

  • Gah! These screenwriters should have been hired to write real political speeches, because only a handful have ever been this powerful.

  • Don't forget to breath while listening to this, these four minutes!

  • Well done charlie chaplin and his films

  • This is the best speech ever, I love this man and his words. Genius

  • Here, he spoke as charlie chaplin; not as the the barber he played in the movie, nor as anyone else... this is, according to me, one of the greatest speeches ever delivered

    hats off to chaplin ^.^

  • Holy fuck, someone told me this same speech once and I didn't know they stole the whole thing from this.

  • Beautiful speech, but humanity must first change its fundamental nature. All mankind is programmed for evil. Until the day that we break free from our animal urges and desires, we will always live in an animal-like competition with each other which ultimately leads to war, destruction, and pain.

  • @ERICROJO156 We aren't born that way, mankind is not programmed for evil. What the fuck are you smoking? A catholic bible? The only evil in the world is the ignorance and fear, that is perpetuated by our governments, priests and media.

  • Watch this with Philip Glass's 'Cloudscape'

  • it sad to see such a great speech with so little views

  • @LuisDisc There are probably hundreds of these videos, plus I know one that has over 2 million views. Trust me, it's got a lot of views overall.

  • Listen to this speech with Bon Iver & St. Vincents "Rosyln" while you watch this video... gives me chills

  • this speech gives me chills everytime i hear it. even now after all these years and hearing it over and over again.

  • Gives me chills every time.

  • the world has gone mad...its true...but its in all of us to make little changes and to share a little kindness...we are in such a hurry nowadays...but to go where...to do what?? tomorrow...hold the door open for someone...give someone less fortunate then you a cup of coffee...say hello to someone you don't know and smile...i know this all sounds corny...and to be honest i don't care if you slag me off...just try your best to be a nice person! PEACE x

  • @crackerz99 Charlie Chaplin's career was based around the mocker of Hitler, but he could have done such more and made the world better. Such a moving speech and such an inspirational, iconic man (Chaplin)

  • This is the most moving speech I've ever heard, and to think he wasn't ashamed or afraid, he really is one of the most iconic people of all time.

  • Can you believe Hitler made 55 accounts just to dislike this video?

  • @HippieGoddess142 Can you believe that you know absolutely nothing about Hitler and the Nazi party? You need to believe that, because I'd be willing to bet all of my money that it is true.

  • @trevor123698123 You're obviously mentally unstable so I'm going to explain it to you simply. He. Made. A. Joke. Get the fuck off the internet if you take everything seriously.

  • @InfiniteKingpin You need to get off the internet if you have reactions like this to comments like mine. The truth about the Nazi party and the history of all wars, and all world dictators is something that needs to be known far and wide. Just because I am clearly more advanced in my studies than you does not mean I am mentally unstable. you show mental instability by reacting to the TRUTH in the way that you have. Hitler and Truman were in the sack together. Learn your real history, then talk.

  • @trevor123698123 I find it cute that you assume to know more about history than me even though you don't even know me?

  • @InfiniteKingpin Reacting to my statement the way you did proves you are unaware of the truth behind Hitler. You are clearly in the dark on a number of other historical concepts.

  • @trevor123698123 Oh I bet you're one of those, "9/11 WAS GOVNMORT CONSPERECY DERR!" retards, too..

  • @InfiniteKingpin If you know about the truth behind all terrorism in the history of the world 9/11 was quite obviously a conspiracy. The CIA, MOSSAD, and all other intelligence agencies are directly responsible for training terrorists and all terror in the history of the world. There is thousands of books on the subject and if you want me to show you some sources just ask me. What you think you know about history is a perversion of the truth, and was written by the "winners" of history.

  • @trevor123698123 You're the definition of a noob. xD

  • Comment removed

  • @Shadowriku40 THe only people who are noobs are the people who use the word noob

  • @trevor123698123 In any context? That makes us both noobs. I'm aiight with that.

  • @Shadowriku40 No actually I didn't call you a noob like you did to me. I just pointed out some very obvious logic that you seem to not understand about using the word noob

  • @HippieGoddess142 Considering how this film came out one year before America went to WWII, this is what probably motivated the troops.

  • @CentristFiasco no actually all mighty U.S goverment banned him from U.S.and you know they thought this movie and espicially this speech are part of a communist propaganda.that's the sad truth.

  • @deathrays111 The US banned him under the McCarthy administration about 12 years after this film came out; they were notorious for banning and trying to extradite under false pretense.

  • @HippieGoddess142 Or can you believe that 58 people see through the philisophical sinkhole that is Modernism presented in this speech that, while inspiring, is an impossible and illogical, idealistic system of thought?

  • @XthorgoldX Stop trying to make yourself look like your in the right because you're not, "HippieGoddess142" made a harmless comment and your just trying to pick a fight to make you feel better about yourself. I say listen to this speech a couple more times and gaina soul.

  • @MsHaleyWard Yes, their comment was in jest, but that's besides the point - my point is that it's shocking that more people haven't disliked it. The speech itself, while admirable and idealistic, is just that - idealistic. Read a paper on philosophy; this speech would be better titled "The Modernist Manifesto." The concept of "science = progress = happiness," an ideal made very clear in this speech, AND the notion that humans are naturally good make the message of this speech horrendously wrong.

  • @XthorgoldX The human nature being good or not has been discussed many times and, if I remember correctly never made clear. What is clear is that power (money, religion, politics) corrups the one who holds it. Then, those who have it take decissions that affect a lot of people. For instance, let's take rare diseases whose frequency is very low (<1 case per 10000 people) and have no cure. Science should research on those diseases, but it doesn't because pharmaceuticals wont "waste" money on that.

  • joe rogan

  • This movie was released in 1940, so it can be guessed that it was shot and filmed in 1939. To mock Hitler like this in a time when it was thought that he would conquer the world is a truly brave thing to do.

  • @crackerz99 I don't think anyone really thought that. During 1939, France were convinced that they were immune to another invasion with the newly completed Maginot Line. So if the French were confident enough, i doubt the Americans, the creators of the film thought that there was any possibility of world domination.

  • @crackerz99 He was mocking his own country just as much as he was Hitler. The United States is and has been ruled by dictatorship since at least the 1900's if not the conception of the CORPORATION

  • @crackerz99 Hitler loved Chaplin.

  • @Marawanasmok yeah I know, thats why its such a great slap to hitlers face, because some one he looked up to is mocking him for his actions.

  • @crackerz99 I'd say he found it funny.

  • @Zuendapp92 perhaps, gay in the archaic sense... as in, a good time, smiles.

  • Just imagine back then what courage it took for him to give a speech of this magnitude covering such taboo topics at the time as racial equality.

  • what an amazing little man he was , Charles Chaplin. R.I.P you genius !

  • At a point he stops reading a script and begins to scream, scream at the audience. Fucking great.

  • he shows no emotion D:

  • Completely applicable to everything today.

  • Amuurica, fuck yeah.

  • great speech. but why does a jew make a reference to the new testament? 2:55

  • @stereed93 Maybe because it's a quote that conveys his thoughts. He's using the Bible the way it should be used, like any religious text, as inspiration for good deeds and kindness, not war.

  • @8cd03gro why do people have to make religion any more than what it is? I will never understand this.

  • @8cd03gro But towards the end he says the only way forwards is through "Science & Progress"? Doesn't he contradict himself in quoting the Bible at the start, and then making that statement?

  • @OliByGolly1 Why would quoting the Bible contradict such a statement? The Bible doesn't deny science, religious extremists who have deluded themselves into believing the Bible states facts alone, rather than teaches valuable lessons, do. Any logical individual without the pettifog of fear and delusion can see that the Bible is a wonderful book with many great lessons, but it is not documentation of historical fact and it absolutely does not deny science's credibility.

  • @OliByGolly1 He's a product of his time. You have to consider the age that this film was made. I think considering the era it is still a very profound speech and as an atheist the reference to the bible doesn't diminish the message or power of the speech, for me anyway. Also he is mainly using it to show how the people he is addressing have misinterpreted something which they all probably claim to follow, so that has a wider significance.

  • @stereed93 He's not jewish

  • @almanacofsleep he is in the movie

  • Whatever my beliefs before this, they are now absolutely in line with this speech. Chaplin is a genius and this is total proof of it.

  • see this video with Dire Straits - Brothers in arms playing also ;)

  • This speech has always made me cry. It is still prevalent today as it was 70 years ago.

  • 55 Wall Street banker people are unhappy...

  • 55 DISLIKES OUT OF 3635= 1%

  • @abretto1 Brilliant that!

  • Comment removed

  • be nice! or rest in paradise

  • Wow!

  • Charlie Chaplin was one of the greatest entertainers that ever walked the earth. This speech is still relevant today. Charlie Chaplin, I salute you!

  • Socialism is not a tool of the economic elite. The government is. But government does not equal socialism.

  • Don't use this to compare ANYBODY who is NOT having ACTUAL PEOPLE loaded on to unheated boxcars and sent to ACTUAL death camps to be GASSED in ACTUAL GAS CHAMBERS and BURIED IN MASS GRAVES to try and score "political points". There was only ONE Hitler. Thank GOD. Any recent comparison denigrates his atrocities against REAL, ACTUAL PEOPLE.

  • @GrannieSez Actually Hitler was just one of many terrible leaders. Look up what General Patton said about the war effort before he was assasinated

  • @GrannieSez And from what I understand the gas chamber at Auschwitz was built after the supposed "holocaust of the jews"

  • The conservative propagandists in America would hate to hear this speech. It blows up everything they think about what socialism is.

  • @perdondaris NAZIsm is NATIONAL SOCIALISTS, not Conservatism. Just to correct your "re-interpretation" of the FACT.

  • @perdondaris Do you even realize that Socialism is a tool of the economic elite? The middle of the left and right (aka a constitutional republic like America once had) is where its at

  • "....as long as men die, liberty will never perish"

    i got chills

  • "While not completely applicable to anything today"

What the fuck are you talking about, are you living under a rock?

  • in the end, during mccarthy era, american accused him as a suspected communist...what a shame..

  • Yes, entirely applicable today !

This speech apparantly put Charlie Chaplin on Hitlers hitlist !

  • Play this over "Stella Del Mattino" and thank me later

  • @Alexbaddy play /watch?v=srrAm9Eiqcw

then start the song when the video is at 0:30

  • Wow! And that would be the reason why they so feared Charlie Chaplin so back in the 30s and 40s. Long live Chaplin!

  • isn't it weird that an actor whose career, built on silence can deliver such a beautiful speech?

  • @reginabelll genius speaks through silence

  • @orangeluva56

    you gay

  • @orangeluva56 you call that gay? you think, kindness is gay? humanity is gay? you are a reflection of what has humanity become...

  • @Zuendapp92 at least what SOME of humanity has become
