Who told them to change the theme song? Extend the show's running time (5 minutes per story is all we needed!)
Dreamstone was well class.
Children's Ward was entertaining even though it was centered around a bunch of miserable Manc kids lol. Say what you want about ITV but they knew how to pump out quality shows in the 4:40 slot for the older kids!
he never really liked to talk about it,all i know is that he was visiting the co op to stock up on some butterscotch & boyd pounced on him...grandad is at peace now.
I've seen some footage of lunchtime CITV from December 92 that has this "piano" tune.
So, logically it makes more sense if they re-dubbed it for the beginning of the steven ryde CITV era. Relaunch of presentation including a relaunch of the CITV ident music.
Hi AidanLunn, yeah I think you maybe correct, as it would make more sense to have re-dubbed the CITV ident music in Feb '93 when Steve Ryde took over. I guess this was the same time they dropped using the 1989 opening CITV ident too.
You are entitled to your opinion, but a lot of people did enjoy watching ''Children's Ward'', as it was one of CITV's top-rated shows for many years, as it ran from 1989 - 2000! I think it got re-branded as just ''The Ward'' in the final few series though...
Hi Hounddogg36, you're not the only person who didn't like ''Children's Ward'', as my friend Paul at school didn't like it either! He also didn't like ''Grange Hill'' either, as he said after spending an awful day at school, the last thing he wanted to watch when he got home was a programme about er... school! I didn't mind either of them, but I wouldn't say they were amongst my favourite kids TV shows ever though. I was more interested in the actual continuity links than the actual programmes!
Lol, Tommy Boyd was somehow the greatest, despite the fact that he never really made much sense.
He could waffle for england! And just when you'd begin to get the gist of what he was on about, he'd throw you by randomly laughing or telling a joke that was way too complex for a childs brain. XD
When did they re-dub that "box" CITV ident with the new music? Was it at he start of the brief Gelnn Kinsey period? Or at the beginning of the Steve Ryde era in february 1993?
Hi Tidmouthsheds, you are right those credits are quite long! Interestingly at 2:36, after "Children's Ward", Tommy mentions the show's writer, Paul Abbott, who would later go onto do shows such as "Shameless", "State Of Play", "Clocking Off" & the fantastic "Cracker".
Sorry, I don't have that episode of "Scooby Doo". I do remember on the day it was shown though, there were some technical problems during the middle of it & the "CITV" ident was shown for a few seconds. Strange that Tommy didn't comment about it after the show though...
The ex-TSW presenter, David Fitzgerald (who appears in this video in the Gus Honeybun clip) is currently appearing in a series of adverts for "Vospers" car dealers, alongside the chairman, Peter Vosper. He's certainly put on a lot on weight since the TSW days, but then haven't we all! If you live in the ITV1 Westcountry area then look out for them!...
If you mean the VT clock at 4:58, I don't think this was meant to be shown! I just think they were late starting the "CITV" ident on this occasion!...
The boy in the "Children's Ward" clip is the actor, Kieran O'Brien, who has been in lots of things over the years, including "Cracker" (where he played Fitz's son, Mark) & "Messiah 1/2" (where he played Red's brother, Eric). I think the voice-over to the "Golden Fishes" advert was done by Tim Brooke-Taylor (from "The Goodies").
My verdicts on the programmes good ol' Tommy mentions in this clip:
The Dreamstone: Fantastic series
Huxley Pig: Ace (and VERY retro) stop-motion show
Children's Ward: Never watched it (not sure that I'd want to)
Thomas the Tank Engine: Top drawer stuff, until HIT ruined it that is.

You're right, it's just my opinion. But even as a kid it seemed so poor and wooden.
