Ive been playing stoner rock but my tone sounds more Sabbath like. But to make it even sound more dynamic and heavier I guess I have to change the tone a bit to sound a bit like the tone in this video. Its all about tonage. Awesome vid.
lol im playing guitar for 5 years now 2 years im trying to figure out how you play those heavy stoner riffs but i wanted to create songs myself and i never knew that those awesome sounding riffs were actually that easy ^^ thanks for the lesson man i really needed that now i can put it to use in my band
@stickierbuds I'm not using any effects here. I'm using the rhythm pickup on the SG with the tone control all the way back, giving it that fuzzy sort of sound.
this is exactly why i love playing stoner/grunge type of guitar. because its so open ended random and GROOVY!!!! 80's type always use the same generic cords. Metal is mostly about fast palm muting. im all for mix of these types of playing though
@Ombrenuit yeah, he's tuned down a step and a half on each string, but for simplicity's sake he just refers to the positions as if he was in standard. the examples he gives can be played in any variation of standard tuning, but Db is a pretty regular tuning for stoner rock.
Hey Corey. I love the sound you've got going with this particular video. Are there any bands you recommend that play a similar style to your opening riffs? Keep up these videos, they really help me out.
@BadassMo0ze Thanks man, I already have that album and their self-titled debut. Both are superb, I was wondering if there was anything else similar. I'm not very up on my stoner rock.
@prolixian As BadassMo0ze commented, Queens of the Stone Age is a really good place to start. I also love Kyuss and Brant Bjork. All three are related. Josh Homme from QOTSA and Brant were in Kyuss together for a while.
I almost felt high watching this. very melllloooo. :)

@ErroSilvae The second lesson is if you're a hater, throw your gear out in the trash and shoot yourself in the head.

@gsogoz my bad dude i commented on the wrong video, i meant to ask about the "creating drone riffs" video... still the same deal?

@stickierbuds I was on the treble pup in that one, and using my Peavey Bandit, not the Toneport.

Why the hell are your strings so loose?
DavidL1432 3 months ago
@DavidL1432 .10 - .46 gauge strings and the tuning that I am in are probably not the ideal combination.
