Yes it was released on the NES in the US but I think the MSX version is better. I have it along with Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake on MGS3 Subsistence.

Kojima has even said he thought they butchered it on the NES.

They made it too hard, changed one of the bosses and Metal Gear wasn't even the game. you blow up a computer and Kojima hated that.

Well I don't blame him. The NES version DID suck. The Angry video game nerd did a nice review of it. I don't have an MSX and I'd give my left nut to be able to play the original. It's unbelievable how much they screwed up the NES version. It's like a completely different game. The graphics were better in the MSX version too.

Well, I do. He's not just some jock who says a game is bad and has no proof to back up his statements, He gives a ton of examples to why the games he rates are bad. James has stated himself that not EVERY game he reviews is as awful as he makes it out to be (Such as Castlevania or McKids). In fact, recently he has taken to making videos about games that are good, such as his recent video about Ninja Gaiden.

He doesn't suck at games, it's just that AVGN is a character and the point is to watch him fail and get angry, not for him to show off his skills.
