@mesmiths An auto-da-fé is an execution by burning. Trump's catchphrase is "you're fired." Its not that hard to get. (And Trump isn't just a TV personality, he's one of the world's wealthiest real estate moguls).
@porsche911sbs Um, actually, that's not what it is. Auto-da-fe (or auto de fe, in Spanish) means "act of faith". This includes any type of trial and punishment meant to force repentance on a heretic. Often it would include torture, but not always execution by any means.
@tenorote ...I know it's Portuguese. I said "or auto de fe, in Spanish". Keyword, "or". And yes, it is implied that it is the burning of a heretic. However, that is a connotation, not a definition. Try again next time, though.
i dislike too much modernization, but this production had interesting aspects. in this song, it's clever that the scene has been saturated with so much americana - a culture that delights in the suffering of others in many ways.
I actually love the way this song is done in this production. You really get the idea that the crowd LOVES this stuff; something that really gets lost in a lot of choreography in many productions. The flags and the wave and everything gets everyone in the audience excited as well... and then they realize that they're excited about killing people.
The great inquisitor is so ridiculous with his Trump... ; the Biscayan in the middle of the condamned is the most ridiculous in my mind.. when he dancing... xD
One would conk out at an auto-da-fé.

What version of the script is this? Did they use the Chelsea script...? Or did they have it rewritten again? I like this version musically.

Why Trump? Just the judge on a tv show link?
Didn't work for me.

@iamreptarhearmeroar Actually, it is Portuguese and almost always indicated the burning at the stake of a heretic.

@kalindoscopy What a horribly racist comment, especially coming from someone who is British. Shame on you!

@mickeyhfgg you do know that american is not a race, but a nationality, right?

I really don't like this production. They've tried to modernize it, I guess, but it just doesn't work. It feels really amateur.

I like some of it, but the whole Trump thing just didn't sit well with me...

Well yes they modernized it, but it's a different approach. Bernstein wanted to be like Voltaire and make it funny and satirical and here you go!

CRIDDLE!!! Of COURSE Lauren Criddle finds a way to look the camera right in the lens as it pans close on the ensemble! haha! XO
