I never said it was a forge, I was using an example. You can do it under 1800 C when you get heat _building up_ from reactions occuring inside the pile. Since they are _exo_thermic they will raise the temperature. Paper ignites at 451 F but the flame can go over 2000 F due to the _exo_thermic combustion reaction (oxidation!). You also have not cited the demolition technique that involves thermite. Thermite is NEVER used in building implosions. Charges do not need "softener" to soften the steel. The *pressure* they create is so much (around several million PSI dynamic) that the steel essentially becomes a liquid.

Or a forge (but don't fan it with the blower too much -- we want to stay at building fire temps, around 1400 degrees F (760 degrees C).) The iron will form a coat of oxide very fast. If it's doing it that quickly the power density will be much, MUCH bigger than 1-2 cal per day/sq foot! Now if that heat gets trapped by iron on top which is also rusting too...

Steel can be ignited in a forge.Any size, provided it gets hot.Now we don't have a forge here, but we do have something that can generate high temperatures as well. @infamous1337 things blowing up from what??? The elevator shafts were sealed air tight units and offset from floor to floor. No elevator ran from top to bottom. I highly doubt the fire had enough steam to make it down 70 some flights of stairs with that kind of force even if they weren't. The majority of the fuel burns up on impact, typical of any plane crash if you study up. So what caused the explosions?
