In europe we can use regularclean deasek and also raosis diesel what is made from grain like culture. So it is 100 procents renewable and green technology no need more oil for diesel making.. Sonusa will make it maybe after 20 years he he
Germans are so smart. American car engineers design philosophy and ingenuity are hopeless, they should design toys rather than cars.
Prius cost more to maintain. Jetta's durability and power is much better and diesel engines are proven to be the toughest engine ever designed. I'll buy the Jetta.
And where do you think the electric power was coming from thin air? No a power station and most probably a coal or oil burning one. The batteries in the cars use elements that require mining that is very damaging. Not to mention that the electric field in the cars is hugely damaging to the biology of the human body. Don't be fooled driving an electric car is more likely to cause cancer than breathing fumes.
cmon, we all know that the toyota prius sucks :D its ugly, it cost as hell, and as a hybrid its not economical. the jetta is a better choise :D atleast it can go fast :D my dad has a 2006 jetta 1.9 TDI and going on 150 kmh/95mph it only used 8 liters of diesel for the whole journey. it was about 160km/100miles.
Come on, we all know that the Jetta TDi sucks :D its ugly, it cost as hell to maintain, and as a diesel its not economical. the Prius is a better choice :D at least it can go just as fast :D my daddy has a 2006 Prius with Keyless entry, Nav, Blue tooth, VSA and a 500 watt DSP sound system, and going on 150 kmh/95mph it only used $6 of 87 gas for the whole journey. it was about 160km/100miles;-)
Fueleconomy(dot)gov Energy Impact over 15,000 miles Barrels of petroleum 2010 Prius-6.9 2004 Prius-7.4 2010 Insight-8.3 2009 Jetta-11.9 Carbon Footprint Annual Tons of CO2 2010 Prius-3.7 2004 Prius-4.0 2010? Insight-4.5 2009 Jetta TDi-6.4 They are all great cars! Pick the one you like the best, and don't hate the rest!
Just bought my Reflex silver with a black interior Sportswagon TDI. Diesel fuel is selling for less than regular gasoline! This car will have big waiting lines since the engine lasts twice as long and gets 35% better mileage than a gasoline one! If the big three had this car now, they would not need a bailout.
the jetta sells very well in ireland, diesel is cheaper than petrol but diesel is the workhorse car.petrol engines have a short life compared to the hard working diesel engines...
well i will tell you why. First in comparison unlike gas which can easily cut through oil, diesel engines belive it or not actually lubricate the engine. They also go and lower RPM's which is less harsh on it. Another way can be explained like what somebody else said in response. They are far more rugged to coop with the high compression ratio. Not sure about this car being reliable though.
For those of you looking to buy a VW, I think you need to check out JDPower. They rate every car and car maker on short and long term dependability. The VW is one of the worse automakers on the list! Only Sizuki is worse than VW as for as dependability. Lexus and Toyota dominate the majority of the segment awards, with Toyota receiving five awards-Highlander, Prius, Sequoia, Solara and Tundra-and Lexus receiving four-ES 330 (in a tie with the Acura RL), LS 430, and SC 430.
ur full of shit... as far as economy, it doesn´t get any better than this... check out top gear´s prius vs M3 comparisson, and then try to rethink your stupid statement. The prius has a VERY ineficient 1.5 petrol engine. Pushing it a bit over what´s intended will skyrocket your consumption. Try flooring a TDI, and see the diference. America doesnçt give a shit about oil dependence. Just look at how they are INVADING the midle east just for oil. Leave the good cars to us, and keep ur pickups.
It well be alright dude. No need to give me a negative one sided dias view of what you like and don't like. First of all lexusgs43 posted that child like rant filled with lies, so I just changed the word Prius to Jetta, making fun of him. Then you come in 2 months later and rant about how the Prius sucks and the Jetta is the best. Really dude? Who the fuck cares! They're cars, that's it. They won't be worth crap in ten years. So you keep that German hate alive because that's what they do best.
Screw TDI & Screw Petrol Hybrids give me a combined diesel powerplant with a litium hybrid pack than you have a freaking deal come on car manufacturers get on the ball!
I think VW is actually working on that at the moment, i think it's being tested in a rabbit sized car which will get like 70mpg or something, but i'm really not too sure.
But please remember that the production of batteries is AWFUL for the environment and i really don't think the future is in batteries due to their environmental impacts in production and after disposal.
My 2007 Yaris averages 41.8 mpg (38.4 mpg overall) on the highway, and it has the 1.5L engine.
The 2007 ratings were 34/40, but they changed the US fuel ratings system in 2008 to make the numbers more conservative. The 2009 Yaris is rated at 29/35- which is unrealistic unless you drive 80 mph 100% of the time against the wind fully loaded with bricks and passengers. It's a good little car..
Low sulpher diesel fuel is the law in the US, Europe has had it for years. Its about time that Chney and Bush's oil buddies let diesels into the US, thats how we get energy efficient, not with a stupid hybrid!
Good try, but I rather have a plug in hybrid. I will not buy a new car unless it something truly alternative like a plug in hybrid or air/water powered car.
plug in hybrid, so we'll need to build more polluting coal fire plants to meet the increased demand for electrical power, thats not going to work! Diesel has been around longer than gasoline........
Had a 1985 Jetta Turbo diesel. It was a fun car--but had to trade in for a mini-van..Now the kids are grown...I wish I could get another one. Went to the dealer and they are playing the old "limited availability" deal. In other words: MSRP + markup.
nigga please. you cant get the GTI engine in a jetta, extra fail at trying to be smart. And its not exactly the same you dumb fuck, because of the mass its added the handling changes, and the car looks like a toy.
Diesel may be cleaner than regular gasoline, but fact is that it ain't clean at all... It's like a fighter that says what would you like? A kick or a hit...?
It's the ideal fuel for the US, you have Sun and lots of it, the technology is there to make diesel from algae. It would be virtually a neutral process as algae cleans the air when it grows. Diesels actually get cleaner as they age where as a Gas engine does not. A well beaded in diesel is far cleaner than a new one.
Sad thing is Ford makes the Fiesta and Focus, VW makes the Polo and Lupo, Saturn Astra is the Vauxhall/Opel Astra all of which come with excellent diesel engines with 50-60mpg. The Fiesta should be in the US by 2010 but the diesel version is too expensive as the engine is made in the UK. Best selling BMW's in UK are Diesels you can't even get them in the US.
The US needs to embrace clean diesels and import more of these already highly fuel efficient cars.
RUN DON'T WALK TO VW AND GET THIS CAR. We just bought the 2009 TDI sportwagen and drove it with 2 good size people and the back loaded up with amps and guitars from Colorado to Oregon. Great power, great steering, great comfort and we filled up 2.5 times for an avg of 44mpg. Ignore jaf207, it is well worth it. One hint... run don't walk away from any dealer wanting a premium. In Vancouver WA the rip off dealer is asking 7K over MSRP. Shop around, MSRP is there.
Also, it's cheaper than most, if not all hybrids....the Toyota dealer 'round here is asking 30 grand for USED Camry Hybrids, and don't even think about getting a cheap Prius new or used. Asinine!
The TDi isn't cleaner than a Civic GX CNG.

EPA, fueleconomy(dot)gov
New MPG (tests are more realistic) City/Hwy/Combined
Prius 2010 - 51/48/50
Prius 2004 - 48/45/46
Insight 2010 - 40/43/41
Jetta Tdi 2009 - 29/40/33
The EPA ratings are a useful tool for comparing the fuel economies of different vehicles but may not accurately predict the average MPG you will get.
When you own one of these cars, you no longer care how much gas is.

why do diesel engines last longer even though they are put through so much stress and work?
sober1one 2 years ago
well diesel engines are built for work and to produce more torque than petrol engines.

there are a couple reasons, heavy parts are required and the diesel engine require less electronics and no spark plugs.

Buying a Volkswagen diesel is not the best choice in terms of minimizing U.S. oil dependence.
Toyota Prius requires 7.4 barrels of crude oil to cover 15,000 miles.
Jetta TDI requires 12 barrels to do so.
So the Toyota is 60% more fuel efficient than this Volkswagen.
