AWESOME LIVE!!!!!!!! I SAW HIM SO MANY TIMES!!!! He was always great but he brought so much talent with him it was always worth the trip. He was rivaled by only the great Stan Kenton band.
Prefer this slower tempo STUDIO version to many of his other LIVE versions of this song. It has such a GREAT GROOVE at this speed. RIP Maynard Fergusen: One of the best trumpet players to ever grace the stage.
@dwhawtho I'm not sure either one beats "Give it One" (when done at a reasonable tempo like the studio album here), but I've always liked the Olympic Theme Song, which I thought was called "Trumpeters' Paradise", but everyone on YouTube seems to be calling "Bugler's Dream".
Can I give a mention to the fantastic Alan Downey who composed and arranged this chart for Maynard's band. Alan was a lead trumpet player in Maynard's band here in the UK.
