Ironically, this show and Get Smart (another Don Addams classic) have similarities. Gadget is Maxwell, neice Penny is in what would be 99's role, both Cheifs end up being the butt of the bumbler's jokes, the gadgets and Gadgetmobile are similar to Maxwell's stuff...

Oddly, Inspector Gadget--though animated by the Japanese--is an America/French cartoon (the only difference is that the French version of the theme actually has an extended version).
