@railwaymguy They didnt know that at the time the movie was made. While there were some reports that the ship broke apart many people testified, and the subsequent inquiries, said that the ship sank intact. It was only after they found the wreck in 1985 that they finally learned the truth.
The wreck is impossible to raise, almost now. I have been told the the wreck of Titanic is going to disappear in a few years because of the bad conditions of the seabed in which she is. She has been gnawed for years by sea water...

I saw this in theaters when I was 11 years old. Believe it or not, this movie is very well done! I thought it to be very creative being that the director made it seem as if the Titanic sank as a whole ship and not in 2 separate pieces.
What I loved most about the story was that after all that hard work to find the Bizanium, it was actually buried in Southby in a fake grave OOPS!
Flop or no flop, I Love this film! Maybe naive to think the wreck would be as perfect, but as RaiseTheTitanic1980 said, back then they really thought it would be, due to lack of light and oxygen and marine growth down that deep. How wrong they were!
Still, a classic and one I remember fondly as a kid :-)
@R1CH130 - I was 10 years old when I watched the film for the first time in my local cinama. I too have fond memories of the film. I am happy to see I am not alone.
@RaiseTheTitanic1980 Unfortunately, I never got to watch it at the cinema as i was too young, but I sae it when it first aired on TV in the early 80's when I was aged around 7 I guess. I stil have it recorded on VHS off the TV, complete with commercials lol
@R1CH130 - If you do decide to go for a DVD copy, get hold of the 2007 'Network' release. I worked on that DVD and supplied the Special Features section and wrote the inner sleeve notes. @RaiseTheTitanic1980 Forget that bit about the DVD, just noticed your photo of the DVD in HMV on your Facebook page. I've requested to Join. Rich Dale :-)
@RaiseTheTitanic1980 Here’s a story for you, I actually took a job in a movie theater when I was 16, just so I could see this film over and over! I quit the day after the last showing. Lord I was young and dumb, but I to have great memories of this film.
you know they are doing a survey of people if they should bring up the titanic or leave it in peace and guess witch survey is wining bring the ship up i want it to stay in peace
The should release this in DOLBY TrueHD since it’s a DOLBY STEREO 6trcak release on 70mm! Isolated John Barry score in DOLBY DIGITAL 6channel extras to sink a battleship over 2 discs mirrored image colour balance and framing 2.35:1 with no (EE DNR) keep the grain!

@themegagamesgamer Yes from the Dirk Pitt series of novels. They made another based on the character and series a few years ago called "Sahara". (didn't do so well, but pretty good).
ok iv never seen this movie so i have no idea, but what the hell was with the guy getting shot on the ice. that seemed to have nothing to do witht he movie at all
@tmacclurg1 Maybe because the under water pressure would kill and squash Chuck Norris??? Duh. And the Titanic would fall apart if anyone tried to lift it. Now, you're probably not going to reply because you have nothing to say to that. :D
Lew Grade famously commented that the film cost so much to make "it would have been cheaper to lower the Atlantic".
The film did not make back its original budget on release and was not a hit but in retrospect there are two great things about this film; the raising (of the model) itself and the fabulous John Barry score. For those two reasons alone I love the film and think it didn't deserve all the criticism it got.

@RaiseTheTitanic1980 my dad did a case for the Jerry J and during a con he told my dad "that the film cost so much that it would of been cheaper to raise the Titanic" any thought youtube should know ..
They didn't even have the exact location of where it rested when Clive Cussler wrote the original novel. It's said that the book in 1976 is what generated such renewed interest in it and led to it being found
@Jemi108Fantic2 popular mechanics did an issue on it showing some of the ideas for raising it. the bottom line is not wether we can raise it or not its why? we do things for money and there would be no money in raising the titanic.
@swampzoid - It became famous for the wrong reasons. It was dubbed for it's time the biggest movie of the 80s. It was, but only because it went way over budget. It didn't do that well with the critics.
But why did the Titanic survivors (some of them) say the Titanic wasn't split in two pieces? I think the break-up sound could be heard from three miles far away...
@RaiseTheTitanic1980 I thought the lifeboats were closer to the sinking of the Titanic. It's sad that they had to sail away from the people in the water, some officers believe they would sunk with the lifeboats where Titanic sank or something like the, I can't explain it. But the Titanic did go down as a torpedo (the bow), and the survivors of the crew believed that the speed of the Titanic in the water would take them down.
@Abricialio - Oh you mean lifeboats. No, they never went as far as 3 miles away from the sinking. They stayed fairly close to the ship when she was going down. Although not right alongside as crew told stories of people and boats getting "sucked" in as the ship goes down. Typical seafaring tales. The boats stayed close-by, by a matter of a few hundreds yards.
Also, unlike Camerons filn version, the ship did not break cleanly, she tore herself apart. Even when the stern went under, survivors stated it disappeared from sight with barely a ripple.
@RaiseTheTitanic1980 Thats Correct also, the Chef who went down with the ship stated that he was with Titanic until the end and his head didn't even touch the water as it went down, so what he stated was basically that he grabbed on to the railing and there was no suction when the ship went down.
@RaiseTheTitanic1980 ummm not really, because a few movies were made about the titanic like "A night to remember" knew that the smokestacks fell. there were witnesses. PEOPLE SURVIVED THIS WRECK!!!! It wasn't ignorance, it was inaccuracy.
@stardusth2o - I know it was inaccuracy. Before the wreck was found, it was widely believed, despite eyewitnesses who stated the ship broke apart during sinking, that the ship was still intact (hull). They already knew during the making of " Raise the Titanic" that the forward funnel fell during the sinking, but for artistic license for this film, they decided to removed the 2nd funnel.
In daa filmm when the brought the titanic up it was whole and like new when it fliipin cracked in daa middle because of itss weight?? Does thaa mean itss not the real ship they r raising in the film? Plz explain :D
@DJClaudiaEMO This film is based off of a novel with the same title by Clive Cussler, his book was written before the titanic was disscovered and revealed to be in two pieces. Before the ship was seen again weather or not she broke in two was still an issue of contraversy.
@RaiseTheTitanic1980 It's a reference to the anime show "Dragonball Z." Sorry if i wasn't clear with that reference. Search for a video called "It's Over 9000!" and you'll see the reference.
@Sketchy2009Studios - The first two peices of music score you hear are "To Cornwall" and "Finding The Titanic" by John Barry who composed the films score. Both these tracks are available on the films CD soundtrack which you can still buy.
It would be very risky to even raise the half that is in more contact. It is said that it may collapse soon. It is weak and little animals and microorganisms are eating at it.
i wish they could really raise the Titanic, they could you know, raise her like they raised the C.S.S Hunley, just get some cables under her hull with airfilled cushions and bring her up like that, we'll need a couple of good sized strong boats, with strong cranes to lift up the Titanic, or she could raise her in sections.
its funny they one said "God himself could not sink the Titanic" now they say "God himself could not raise the Titanic"
Holy shit, it's Obi-Wan!

Abricialio 1 year ago
@Abricialio - Who was 3 miles away from when the Titanic sank?. No one.
RaiseTheTitanic1980 1 year ago
@RaiseTheTitanic1980 I thought the lifeboats were closer to the sinking of the Titanic. It's sad that they had to sail away from the people in the water, some officers believe they would sunk with the lifeboats where Titanic sank or something like the, I can't explain it. But the Titanic did go down as a torpedo (the bow), and the survivors of the crew believed that the speed of the Titanic in the water would take them down.
Abricialio 1 year ago
@Abricialio - Oh you mean lifeboats. No, they never went as far as 3 miles away from the sinking. They stayed fairly close to the ship when she was going down. Although not right alongside as crew told stories of people and boats getting "sucked" in as the ship goes down. Typical seafaring tales. The boats stayed close-by, by a matter of a few hundreds yards.
RaiseTheTitanic1980 1 year ago
Also, unlike Camerons filn version, the ship did not break cleanly, she tore herself apart. Even when the stern went under, survivors stated it disappeared from sight with barely a ripple.
RaiseTheTitanic1980 1 year ago
@RaiseTheTitanic1980 Thats Correct also, the Chef who went down with the ship stated that he was with Titanic until the end and his head didn't even touch the water as it went down, so what he stated was basically that he grabbed on to the railing and there was no suction when the ship went down.

@TITANICLUSITANIA - He said it was as if he was inside a elevator (lift).
RaiseTheTitanic1980 1 year ago
@RaiseTheTitanic1980 Exactly and he also stated his head didn't touch the water at all.

@TITANICLUSITANIA I know, but wasn't their suction?

I love how they showed the end of the movie
dangodoffire 1 year ago
@AtomOnline1 - This film was made 5 years BEFORE the real ship was found. It was widely believed the ship was intact.
RaiseTheTitanic1980 1 year ago
@RaiseTheTitanic1980 ummm not really, because a few movies were made about the titanic like "A night to remember" knew that the smokestacks fell. there were witnesses. PEOPLE SURVIVED THIS WRECK!!!! It wasn't ignorance, it was inaccuracy.
stardusth2o 1 year ago
@stardusth2o - I know it was inaccuracy. Before the wreck was found, it was widely believed, despite eyewitnesses who stated the ship broke apart during sinking, that the ship was still intact (hull). They already knew during the making of " Raise the Titanic" that the forward funnel fell during the sinking, but for artistic license for this film, they decided to removed the 2nd funnel.

it is to late. Titanic is almost destroyed (if they will raise it, it will just broke down). 1912-2010=96years
And if they could raise it what would they do when it came to the surface. It is broken into two pieces!.

In daa filmm when the brought the titanic up it was whole and like new when it fliipin cracked in daa middle because of itss weight?? Does thaa mean itss not the real ship they r raising in the film? Plz explain :D
DJClaudiaEMO 1 year ago
@DJClaudiaEMO This film is based off of a novel with the same title by Clive Cussler, his book was written before the titanic was disscovered and revealed to be in two pieces. Before the ship was seen again weather or not she broke in two was still an issue of contraversy.

@RaiseTheTitanic1980 It's a reference to the anime show "Dragonball Z." Sorry if i wasn't clear with that reference. Search for a video called "It's Over 9000!" and you'll see the reference.

Sketchy2009Studios 2 years ago
@Sketchy2009Studios - The first two peices of music score you hear are "To Cornwall" and "Finding The Titanic" by John Barry who composed the films score. Both these tracks are available on the films CD soundtrack which you can still buy.

It would be very risky to even raise the half that is in more contact. It is said that it may collapse soon. It is weak and little animals and microorganisms are eating at it.

"Are you talking about...raising the Titanic??"
*dramatic pause*
"Yeah."
ExtraTERRORestrial 2 years ago 25
i wish they could really raise the Titanic, they could you know, raise her like they raised the C.S.S Hunley, just get some cables under her hull with airfilled cushions and bring her up like that, we'll need a couple of good sized strong boats, with strong cranes to lift up the Titanic, or she could raise her in sections.
its funny they one said "God himself could not sink the Titanic" now they say "God himself could not raise the Titanic"
