The CDT website recommends having an iceaxe for the snowy slopes. Did you guys have one? Do you think having one is necessary?

@FFEMTPMF - yes, we carried ice-axed in the San Juans, pretty much from Cumbres onwards and we needed them all the way to Copper Mountain. Especially in the Southern San Juans we had a lot of har frozen snow in the mornings and slippy slushy snow in the afternoons. Definitely get one (lightweight) and definitely do some practicing with is this winter!!!

@Kolibri8709 - wir waren 6 monate unterwegs bei etwa 20 meilen pro tag mit 1-2 tagen rast pro woche. man kann's sicher billiger machen, aber wir haben jedesmal, wenn wir pause gemacht haben ein billiges motel aufgesucht um einmal richtig sauber zu werden und in einem bett zu schlafen -... mich hat der ganze spass rund £5000 gekostet - inclusive flug und 3 paar neue schuhe und 7 paar socken und 3 wander-kleider und bus-fahrt/hire-car am anfang und am ende
