It can happen due to natural wheather condidions called inversion, or, due to so called ARTs (Artificial Radar Targets) for that precisly moderated proton beams are used today. (That things that look like plasma balls in the sky and can manourver incredibly fast, since no matter is moved.

Im aware of false radar targets. But my comment mentioned air & ground radar systems in conjunction with visual contact. As far as I understand ball lightning/plasma balls are rare, and appear under a narrow set of weather conditions. The pilots have confirmed structured objects in conjunction with air & ground radar, in different weather conditions. Thanks.

Maybe you wanted to read the technical section of UK MODs UAP report 2001 for more information. Remember, a UFO is per definitionem UNIDENTIFYABLE. Hence all claims are speculations, as long as no sufficient data is available to unambigously categorize a particular sighting.

itsabomberscope, still unfounded guesses. A plasma can be either emissive or absortive. So it can appear as a bright - or dark, metallic object. That accounts for microwaves too. So it can have a noticable RCS - or not. Hence microwave plasmas play a major role in contemporary optical/radar stealth technology. To make things complete: Plasmas can be used for air-drag reduction too for crafts: Just add a LF-magnetic field that creates eddy-currents and Lorentz-forces repel air-molecules.

A ball-lightning (like) origin of (some) UFOs is not what I've claimed; alhough it can be considered. Man made aerial plasma (e.g. from a moderated proton beam, microwave transmitters - or even dipolar GM-fields) can be sustained as long as energy is supplied. In cases of insufficient data no explication is possible, so a UAP remains a UAP.

Its an extremely weak argument in my view regarding "moderated proton beam microwave transmitters". Point to one ufo case where the data substantiates the use of "moderated proton beams" with sustained energy input.

itsabomberscope, nope again. Protons are charged particles (as electrons are). [p+, e-] Hence, such a beam can be easily deflected by two sets of coils. As an electron beam can draw any shape on the phoshorus of a CRT, a proton beam can do it as well. The only diffrence is, distance, aka plane of 'projection', is controlled by the acceleration voltage (=moderation) here. Before you jump on quick conclusions, maybe, you wanted to take a look into a physics textbook. It isn't harmful.

I think its far more likely that some UAPs are structured man made craft, than some cock and bull story about proton beams, and highly unknown plasma creation methods. You will also notice that a CRT projection is flat, and not a 3d object. And the projection surface is a highly organized structure, not an expansive collection of atmospheric gases.

Your theory has to get more complex to explain itself, and mine is quite simple.

Nuclear subatomic particles like neutrons or protons can only interact with matter (or cause collision ionisation of air atoms in the latter case) if their speed is ajusted to a particular value (=moderation). Hence, the z-position of this point is exactly adjustable. So you get a mid-air 3D 'projection screen' - the technique of a p+ ART.
