it would be appropriation if rolling stone did this and pearl jam could sue. so they clearly told him they would just use his photo because pearl jam has not been afraid of suing large companies before. so please everyone, stop praising him for trying to look like a badass.
rolling stone magazine is doing what they have been doing since day one and thats cover popular music. You can say that justin bieber and all that crap today is garbage which it is but it's not there fault that all that there is to cover are artists like that. They still have some really good articles in there still. David Fricke is a great writer for the paper and always covers all the classic rock and roll bands and some of the few good new bands that are out today.
@Univermag Rich yeah, and privileged but not in the way you mean it mean. Point is the mag promoted him, not the band. And if you've heard Eddie's past bands you'd know how special this band is to Eddie, and to all of us.
I wonder if he always thought like this. I mean it'd be cool if he did but I don't know, how can I know right? I'm talking about "we're a band, it's not just me" Anyway he never seemed vain to me so I'll keep on being happy lol
Fucking awesome. They should of invited one of the writers or something from Rollingstone just to do it in their fucking face. You know its a shitty magazine when fucking snookie is on the cover. I wonder if people still buy that shit.
This was a great show...like every one of their shows...but even more so when he yelled at the guy for asking for "kids are alright" when he had played it before the opening band.
I hate Rolling Stone, If you've ever seen their 500 greatest artists of all time list it's pathetic! The Beatles are number one What kind of bullshit is that The Beatles suck ass!!
i'm not saying this because pearl jam is my favourite band, but r.s is trash. the proof lies in their reviews from 20-30+ years ago. they would trash an album, give it 1 or 2 out of 5, and then after decades of that album gaining notoriety, they'll put it in their 'best of' or 'top albums' lists. it's like they jump on bandwagons so they're not the black sheep of critics.
@smurfornge Yeah i'm realizing that I actually have no clue. Which is embarassing as a HUGE pj fan.... I just always thought I knew what I knew. @evanisovich - yeah. it's half ads. the other half is articles about crappy, pretentious indie rock bands that no one but the editors of RS have ever heard of.

@CanadianChronic2121 Idiot Metallica made metal what it is today... You wouldn't have Pantera, Disturbed, Foo Fighters, Godsmack, And korn for example, all these bands said METALLICA was one of there BIGGEST influences!!!!
pantera is the only good metal band you just listed, and the foo's aren't even metal, nor were they influenced by metallica. i'm sure dave probably isn't even a metallica fan.
@Jim5H ummm are you fucking retarted..theres actually lots of metal! Metallica, Slipknot, Sevenfold and more. Get your head out of your ass and quit trying to make facts off your own opinions. I hate faggots that do that.

@tubbythug92 kurt's suicide was sad, yes. what i'm saying is he shouldn't have done it. Although i still stand by the fact Pearl Jam are a way better band, musically and Lyrically. Nirvana was more like one letting two other guys play with him... And how Kurt is a better songwriter than Eddie, is beyond me. Not saying Kurt isn't a good songwriter, but Eddie's written way too many good ones.
Depression is a serious sickness, the medicine he was taking and heroin just made it even worse. Ian Curtis from Joy Division commited suicide by depression, but yet no one complains. By saying he shouldn't have done it..well thats a overstatement. One thing I hate is how people don't take depression seriously.
Pearl Jam will never reach the limits of musical boundaires Nirvana had. Kurt was and is a far more superior songwriter than Eddie. Nirvana was like one letting two other guys playing with him? I disagree, Dave and Kurt had a great formula when singing verses together. How can you say Eddie has written way too many good ones when Cobain has written ALL of his songs? Which all are great masterpeices I might add. It's raw, honest, energetic music..something Eddie didn't have.
@tubbythug92 i really think you need lo listen PJ before talking.. you can't compare... I respect the fact you like Nirvana, but you can not say Kurt was a better songwriter than EV.
Oh I listend alright, I had to put up with their mediocre songs for a very long time. Since the day they became popular. Do you seriously think that me hating Pearl Jam is only because I never listend to them? Doesn't make any sense.
@tubbythug92 haha...well....your whole list on your channel goes to shit when i saw people like chuck d and the monkees...you may like pavement or the pixies which are awesome....but the monkees? seriously? the fucking monkees, you really have a pretty idiotic idea of what songwritting means when listing the monkees on your list and dissing pj for "bad songwriting" and bad material", not that pj are perfect but the monkees? seriously? the equivalent of the backstreet boys or beiber by 1967
Chuck D and the rest of Public Enemy made the best album in the 80's thus far. So don't even think for a second about him being a bad songwriter, unless you're a total moron. Yep The Monkees, point being? They may not be the best band in the world, because they are far from it, but I still grew up to their music, them, The Beatles, and some others. I also can't believe you compared them to Beiber and Backstreet Boys, that's like comparing shit to gold.
Actually, let me restate that, I don't hate Pearl Jam..I just disrespect them. Also if you really want to know why the Pearl Jam/Nirvana thingy went on keep reading back and you'll see why.
@KRS1LEGEND who cares what's cool? i'm not interested in that. if i want a songwriter to look up to and be inspired by, i will take kurt anyday of the week. there was no front with kurt, nothing phony or contrived, his whole being and soul was right there in his music. all those wonderful and creative songs he wrote. i don't even hate pearl jam. i think they are pretty good. i'm just not influnced or inspired by them. i feel greatly inspired by kurt cobain. he ignited my lifelong love of music.
the amount of chords employed in a composition doesn't determine if it's a creative or uncreative song. it's WHAT chords you use and how you use them, lyric writing, melody, rhythm, dynamics, structure, different tempos, performance intensity, etc. he also painted and did other forms of art and was creative in that field too. the main riff to slts for ex. is 4 chords but the 4 chord choices ARE creative. you most likely know nothing about chord progressions so don't even bother commenting on it
You know Eddie, you're going to seriously irritate your backstage area if you're wiping with Rolling Stone magazine. Might I suggest some nice soft multi-ply toilet tissue? Perhaps a nice aloe infused brand? You'll thank me later.
@balazini YEAH THERE A LOT OF LACKEYS WITH NOTHING TO DO BUT PISS PEOPLE OFF! WE NEED TO REALIZE THEIR JUST ILL AND IGNORE THE TIME WASTERS! GOOD BANDS ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN THESE DAYS SO WE KNOW THE TRUE BANDS WORTHY OF LISTENING TO BY US AND FORGET ABOUT THE POOR BASTARDS WHO TRY AND STIR SHIT UP!! WHO ELSE CAN RELATE TO THIS? up IF YOU DO!!!
The same mag that ripped Led Zeppelins first album apart, "Unfortunately, [Jimmy Page] is also a very limited producer and a writer of weak, unimaginative songs, and the Zeppelin album suffers from his having both produced it and written most of it (alone or in combination with his accomplices in the group) ... In their willingness to waste their considerable talent on unworthy material the Zeppelin has produced an album which is sadly reminiscent of Truth.” (1969 RS review of Led Zeppelin 1).
@cinerama62 I only voted up because I'm assuming you're on Zep's side. Rolling Stone can kiss Page's ass. Seriously. Have you seen their reissued top 500? It's such bullshit. Not that the music and artists on the list aren't amazing, but Jay Z, Rihanna, Beyonce on the top 500 songs of all time and not one mention of say RHCP. Absurd.
@Nhoward2807 Yes I'm definitely On Led Zep's side, Robert Plant was still talking about in interviews years later. Havn't seen the reissued top 500 songs, but the top 500 album list, 2005 I believe, has no mention of Robin Trowers 'Bridge Of Sighs ' but one of Dolly Partons albums is on the list. Sick and absurd.
@cinerama62 So true, right after Rolling Stone made that review on Zeppelins first album, the next night Zeppelin played live the audience demanded 7 encores. Talk about one hell of a band. Rolling Stone has lost all credibility though. Their lists like Best Guitarists of All Time really pisses me off. It shows what idiots they have coming up with these things. They go from tearing apart Zeppelin to worshipping them, and now they throw fucking Justin Bieber on the cover. How low can they go?
I don't know...............I just would not have handled it that way. I know for a fact that the other guys in the band didn't care at all. My opinion. Respect it please as I do all of yours.
@mattbastardsen Yeah, if someone like Eddie Vedder says you messed up, then you probably did....Ive never heard a cross word about the man. You hear stories like, "My sister ran into Eddie backstage and he sat down and talked about our grandmother passing and she was a total stranger"
Rolling Stone magazine likes the song Like a Rolling Stone and the band Rolling Stones best of all. Get it? Talk about self serving idiots. I like Bob Dylan and The Stones but I don't like pompous ass magazines.
Damn is just that them idiots pay to the magazine to come up in their covers cuz they are not as good as pj fuck the new assholes that called them selfs bands like the Jonas brothers they are just bunch of pussies
Rolling Stone won't put the entire Pearl Jam band on the cover--but they put the 17 year old kid from Twilight shirtless on the cover while the backspacer tour was tearin it up and selling out arenas.
rolling stone is nothing but a shit rag. its an insult to musicians everywhere when you have to see miley cirus or the jonas brothers on the front cover of this magazine.
it would be appropriation if rolling stone did this and pearl jam could sue. so they clearly told him they would just use his photo because pearl jam has not been afraid of suing large companies before. so please everyone, stop praising him for trying to look like a badass.

@mgoceans
Actually, let me restate that, I don't hate Pearl Jam..I just disrespect them. Also if you really want to know why the Pearl Jam/Nirvana thingy went on keep reading back and you'll see why.

@mgoceans way easy!!!! "Kurt was a better songwriter than EV" ??? Don't like either one of them

@KRS1LEGEND NO. nirvana is cooler than pearl jam.
roejogan8 1 year ago
@roejogan8 its cool to listen to nirvan.... IF YOUR 12!! pearl jam is cool in general
KRS1LEGEND 1 year ago
@KRS1LEGEND who cares what's cool? i'm not interested in that. if i want a songwriter to look up to and be inspired by, i will take kurt anyday of the week. there was no front with kurt, nothing phony or contrived, his whole being and soul was right there in his music. all those wonderful and creative songs he wrote. i don't even hate pearl jam. i think they are pretty good. i'm just not influnced or inspired by them. i feel greatly inspired by kurt cobain. he ignited my lifelong love of music.
roejogan8 1 year ago
@roejogan8 ed over kurt anyday. eds not a deuce
KRS1LEGEND 1 year ago
@KRS1LEGEND neither is kurt. read or watch anfew interviews. he's a cool person. intelligent and creative too.
roejogan8 1 year ago
@roejogan8 what so creative about three chords repeated followed by an offbeat solo?
KRS1LEGEND 1 year ago
the amount of chords employed in a composition doesn't determine if it's a creative or uncreative song. it's WHAT chords you use and how you use them, lyric writing, melody, rhythm, dynamics, structure, different tempos, performance intensity, etc. he also painted and did other forms of art and was creative in that field too. the main riff to slts for ex. is 4 chords but the 4 chord choices ARE creative. you most likely know nothing about chord progressions so don't even bother commenting on it

@KRS1LEGEND ok, that was a dumb thing to say. well i do know about music which is what we're discussing...

@tubbythug92 He's trolling you guys by the way.
Mr11MUSICMAN 1 year ago
@KRS1LEGEND the way he could craft a melody over these nondiatonic progressions was part of his songwriting genius.

You know Eddie, you're going to seriously irritate your backstage area if you're wiping with Rolling Stone magazine. Might I suggest some nice soft multi-ply toilet tissue? Perhaps a nice aloe infused brand? You'll thank me later.

In their willingness to waste their considerable talent on unworthy material the Zeppelin has produced an album which is sadly reminiscent of Truth.” (1969 RS review of Led Zeppelin 1).
cinerama62 1 year ago 10
@cinerama62 I only voted up because I'm assuming you're on Zep's side. Rolling Stone can kiss Page's ass. Seriously. Have you seen their reissued top 500? It's such bullshit. Not that the music and artists on the list aren't amazing, but Jay Z, Rihanna, Beyonce on the top 500 songs of all time and not one mention of say RHCP. Absurd.
Nhoward2807 1 year ago
@Nhoward2807 Yes I'm definitely On Led Zep's side, Robert Plant was still talking about in interviews years later. Havn't seen the reissued top 500 songs, but the top 500 album list, 2005 I believe, has no mention of Robin Trowers 'Bridge Of Sighs ' but one of Dolly Partons albums is on the list. Sick and absurd.
cinerama62 1 year ago
@cinerama62 They really wrote that?! Oh my god, that makes Eddie wiping his butt with the magazine that much more legit!
Dugganworks 11 months ago
@cinerama62 So true, right after Rolling Stone made that review on Zeppelins first album, the next night Zeppelin played live the audience demanded 7 encores. Talk about one hell of a band. Rolling Stone has lost all credibility though. Their lists like Best Guitarists of All Time really pisses me off. It shows what idiots they have coming up with these things. They go from tearing apart Zeppelin to worshipping them, and now they throw fucking Justin Bieber on the cover. How low can they go?
dt089 10 months ago
I can guarantee one thing, that magazine is worth a lot more now that Eddie has wiped his ass with it.
