Congratulations on great advice. I think this presentation is very important. It is most relevant to the human being! You can't say better that that!!!
Thank you very much Mr Siegel for your detailed explanation. I am more informed of the anatomy of pelvic floor muscles and functions. I have been suffering from incontinence problems for years and now has aggravated however the urologists here check me up for prostate cancer.
I have battled with PE for 11 years due to severe prostatitis. Any of the kegel muscle exercises and or the anxiety related relaxation techniques were completely ineffective for me. I got involved in a clinic trial at a urologist clinic in Orange County about a year ago with a drug called promescent. It has an absorption technolgy where it goes sub dermal and leaves sensation but somehow takes away the "ticklish" sensation i was feeeling. It should be avaialble soon, Watch for Promescent
Thank you Dr. Andrew for providing these invaluable information. I suffer from rectal prolapse from a long history of constipation. I've learned to deal with constipation through proper (high fiber) diet, but the prolapse is apparently irreversible. I know it'll get worse as I age, and I fear the complications of surgery. Beside avoiding straining and pelvic floor exercises, do you have any other life-style recommendations for someone in my situation?
The other recommendation is to maintain a healthy weight, since carrying extra pounds puts a burden on the pelvic floor and can exacerbate any type of hernia or prolapse. BTW, there are colon and rectal surgeons who can repair rectal prolapse.
A great video, Dr.! I just have the following question: are there any possible downsides of the kegels for men, I've read somewhere about difficulty urinating when overdoing them? Could this be true? Should one worry about possible side effects, nerve damage etc?
No downsides except perhaps a little soreness at first, as you would experience from any kinds of focused workout. They should not impair your urination in any way.
Hi, Dr! If you would allow me one more question: There is a website out there called herballove or something and it seems to suggest that kegel exercises for men are actually pretty bad and can cause prostate enlargement, trapping of some nerves and other problems. Now I am really dubious when it comes to this website since it seems they are just some crooks trying to get money...But I was wondering if you've come across their theories about prostalginin etc....
Thank you Dr. for the information, I work out and drink protein stuff and others, does that affect me , because I go at least 7 to 8 times to the bathroom, and if so could you tell me what kind of liquids to avoid. Thanks in advance
If you go frequently but the bladder volumes are full, then the bladder is behaving appropriately. Don't overdo it with protein supplements. Avoid high fructose corn syrup present as a sweetener in many soft drinks!
@incontinencedoc Is sucrose the same thing as fructose or similiar? I drink alot of gatorade. is this ok? or do you perfer anything else to this? Thanks
Good info. After rad pros, my local MD advised the exercise be done briefly, set of 10, 2-3 X?day. At age 60, I did Ok. Now at 63, having increasing stress incont. Can I expect that to appreciably clear doing sets of 25 for 5 sec, 3-4X/day?
It's hard to say what the results will be, but I would ramp up the exercises to the sets of 25. The pelvic floor muscles are a bit "downstream" from the neck of the bladder, so will not work as efficiently from a mechanical standpoint as compared to the involuntary bladder neck muscle, that can be scarred from the radical.
Hello Doctor -although i have not gone through all of " comment posts- I am wondering are these the Kegel exerciesthat Others briefly describe and if so do you believe this helps males in sexual function/pre-ejac. control. thankyou?
I think I have stress UI based on your video, as I drip sometimes when sneezing or just standing up after a long period of sitting. I also do not ejaculate too far. I do plan on doing the kegel exercises, but one question: does having UI affect the ability to have kids. I plan on getting married in the near future. Thanks
Yes, exercises resulting in better strength, tone and control of the pelvic muscles can improve not only urinary and bowel function, but sexual function for either gender.
hey doc thanks for your response i do have prostatitis and was given cipro and doxycycline to no avail now i am on a relaxer, but i have noticed that once i stopped constantly squeezing the pelvic floor muscles the symptoms of prostatitis have gone down, but still have a little bit of lower ab spasams i dunno if pelvic floor muscles help or not because i don't want to inflame the prostate again, that is my biggest worry i have made so much progress here
does this also help with prostatitis? there us a new wave of thinking out there about non bacterial prostatitis in that well it is involes squeezing your pelvic floor muscles constantly as a way to release stress in a lot of men, i don't know if this hurts or helps if you have prostatitis
Prostatitis can inflame the pelvic floor and in that respect, pelvic floor muscle exercises may help alleviate the symptoms, but are certainly no substitute for a physician visit and antibiotics, when deemed necessary. Prostatodynia--pain of prostatic origin that may be on the basis of levator spasms can certainly be helped with pelvic exercises.
Dr. Seigel, I was diagnosed with an inguinal impulse ( a potential inguinal hernia). I've been doing Kegel exercises and they've been great at improving my erections, etc. But I've also been experiencing some pain in the inguinal area. Can Kegel exercises aggravate an inguinal hernia? If so, is it possible to do them in a way that wouldn't aggravate it? I would hate to give them up!
Hi, im 27 and I have a colapsed pevic floor both in my uterus and anus are droped does that make sense, I have a buldge form when I have to pass stool, and in that bulge my stool get stuck and every time I use the rest room I feel like I am giving birth I have to do daily enemas, miralax, golitley, oils, fibers, you name it. I do pelvic floor exercise. I will get help soon at usc I hope.
Not directly on an enlarged prostate; however, if the enlarged prostate is causing overactive bladder symptoms, pulsing the pelvic floor muscles can sometimes alleviate urgency, frequency, urge incontinence, etc. In the near future I will post a video on prostate enlargement.
Guys can find a great product called a KegelPad. Google it, it works. It builds up your PC muscle, builds bladder control, and improves your sex life, since the PC muscles support your erection. You'll feel orgasm is much more intense.
My uterus is extremely low. Can this exercise fix that problem
ridzzzzzzzzzz 3 months ago
@ridzzzzzzzzzz Not likely to, but it may help the problem from progressing.

my question os that i read on several sites that exersicing the pelvic could assit in ovulation? As well as tone your lower abs?
Mickey0113 1 year ago
I am not aware that PFM exercises play any role in ovulation!
These exercises will tone PFMs, not abds....however, core exercises including Pilates and Yoga can exercise both.
