Sergio is a real musician and an icon. I can't blame him for making a buck with these rappers non musicinas but he's probably prefer to loose these dudes.
I love this song! I can't stop listening to it! The tune is very catchy and makes you want to get up and dance. Erykah Badu's voice is amazing in this song! I Love it!
Think about it, if more traditionalist were around in the early 60's do you think sergio mendes, sly and family stone, beatles, james brown, miles and other ground breaking acts would be allowed to surface. If these arts mentioned were traditionalist, they would all have been doing the typical pat boone or rock sound that was "happening" during that period.
That being said, this song would have worked if it wasn't for the rap.
i used to like this song until i went deeper into brazillian guitar and jazz, the rap just ruins it, just doesnt mix, the lyrics just dont go with the sophisticated sound of sergio
Well like all great artists, there is a time in their life when they love to experiment, and try new styles. I say good for Sergio for trying something new. May not be as great as his old stuff but its not crap either.

This Brazilian wishes there was more collaboration between hip hop and greats like Sergio Mendes. Don't get me wrong, I still like the oldies but goodies as well.
IN 20 years from now, no-one will remember any of these rappers, (just like the 1980s hip-hop artistes are now forgotten).
But in 20, 30 or 50 years from now, Bossa Nova greats like Segio, Tom Jobim, Elis Regina, will still be celebrated. Sorry if I've offended anyone, but the truth does ofend
Will's beyond hip-hop--he's music. Where you go wrong is when you compare him to the likes of mainstream gimmick rappers and see that he's making vocal rhythm to a song but not putting a melody to what he's saying. Get past that. For you to down him is to down the good judgement of Sergio, Michael Jackson, and all others who've done collabo because he's talented. Consider that.
Fortunately Sergio Mendez will always be remembered for his work with the Brazil '66. That stuff will still be played and appreciated when this stuff will be in a landfill.

I think this rap mix with Erika Badhu and (magnifico Sergio Mendes) is pretty good. I usually frown upon rap but this is pretty good. At first I thought this was the Black Eye'd Peas.
This is great song. It's been severely way too long since I enjoyed a good Hip-Hop song. As a Brasilian-American I really enjoyed the Hip-Hop and Bossa Nova incorporation. I look forward to more Hip-Hop songs with the Bossa Nova smooth feel to it. I feel Mr. Mendes has something good going here I hope to hear more of him and artist like Erykah, Common, Talib, Mos-Def, and so on. Erykah Badu's dramatics and overall look in this video are stunning! (enough said--the sistah is fabulous)
Will i am is phenomenal---I don't know why people on here are hating against him. He has produced so many people that it is a shame when you read UGLY comments---research and learn about the brotha before looking down your nose at his music. Check his first album out with the Black Eye Peas (CLASSIC) that is all I can say.
In fact while Will i am and BEP was on the west coast doing their thang the Roots was on the East Coast doing theres and I always felt that these two groups were always on a level of new and innovative things and crossing other genres to bring a new look to the hiphop game. Will i am is doing his thang and I am glad that Sergio Mendes recognize a talented brotha and did this project with him. Will i am is going places and that is what life is all about!
As for the people on here who are Sergio Mendes aficinados, I understand that you feel that Mendes went way below his standards in doing a production with a hiphop artist, but didn't no one tell him too do it--he wasn't forced to 'jump off a bridge' to do this production. This is off his album Timeless (which by the way is absolutely fabulous) and I think this song gave him a lot of energy. Something new and something blue, full of FLAVOR.
So to all the HATERS---get a life! Mr. Sergio Mendes knows what he is doing and still he is not taking away from his quality of music and direction. This video and this song is absolutely fabulous and it is on my iPod and I have the album...what does that say....I look forward to more songs incorporating hiphop and bossa nova.
It doesn't surprise me this video. He was never a great musician anyway. He left Brazil because he didn't have much to show there, plus his desire to make money out there. He is not going lower because he has ever been in that 3rd class level, copying music always, nothing creative, nothing with feeling or really artistic, but just a mixture of arrangements to cheat those who do not get to listen real Brazilian music at first hand. A big opportunist, that's all. Sorry...
I respect your opinion. But in my opinion, I like the video and the song. As for your comment about REAL Brasilan music.....my friend I have felt the heat of REAL Brasilian music, I felt the drums and the guitars of REAL Brasilian music. I adore the culture of Brasilian music because it feeds my soul....and I don't feel cheated at all--and I am still going to like Mr. Mendes as well! I am not apologizing, but I would like us to be friends!
Sure, my friend! What I meant with "real" music is about the roots, the core, about those artists and creations which keep revealing the best of life and humanity and do it so naturally that others just admire and follow. I just felt important to make such a distinction, because Mr.M***** is one of those who sell the copies and try to get credit for themselves. Ask any Brazilian musician if they had ever learnt anything new or got inspired from Mr. M* & co...
You are so right in your statement that I can't debate and plus my rebuttal isn't of any significance. I am glad that we are friends and I am glad that you feel strongly about Brasilian music--it has so much flavor and so much heat! Caio
rap was a way of expressing yourself, people always getting on rap, like rock or metal isnt just as bad or worse. so i say if you dont like rap why the hell are you listening to this song
Ah, this song is cool. Still, I can't help to think that Andre 3000 would've been a good addition to this song. But, Will put it down with some real nice lyrics and Erykah was nice on the background vocals. Altogether, this was a cool song.
Ironically... yeah, rap was supposed to be the voice of the inner cities. Even though 70% of it is bought by white suburbia, it still started as an inner city thing. So... if you don't like it, 'guess it wasn't made for you. No biggie.
PLEASE DONT READ THIS. if you have started reading this theres no stopping now here is wut a dead little boy told me i have blonde hair and brown eyes and black hair if you do not post this to 15 songs you will die by today or tommorow. (THIS WILL REALLY HAPPEN SO POST IT TO 15 SONGS by 8:45PM
this is a true thing that happens! its not a chain letter! its kinda scary at first but it really works!! paste this message into 3 comments and press ALT F4 and your crushes name will appear on the screen!!! its soo wierd!
I agree with your female artist picks! Serg looks good, even if he is an old dude - he's young at heart - FEEL DAT HEAT!!! Awesome production behind this vid, right - love the artwork, too!
Diss? Diss? Is that a word? Hey, ghetto boy, the word is "disrespect". I can't help it if you grew up listening to ghetto thugs making so-called "music".
lol, i didnt know that the type of music one listened determined the depths of their vocabulary. Would it be right of be to call you impeteous, inane, and perlacious. big words huh, oh yea i listen to rap
cool im glad you like rap, but did you mean impetus or impetuous? plz those wordz arent big one meanz impulsive, lacking knowledge, and perlacious just meanz pleasure hmm your right about what anyone listenz to but what TuneInTurnOnDropOut iz commentin about iz how rap iz crap and rock rulez, he believez rapperz are all ghetto, but ghetto iz factor of people who live in proverty, itz not a character you cant act ghetto just like you cant act black or white etc..
man my comment was not directed at you and if it was recieved to you then apologized. i was actually agreeing with what you said. about rock and roll. And like you said ghetto is a state of mind. be too often confused the two. and i met impeteous not impetus, and when i said big words, i was being sarcastic
I hate rap, it ruins everything. It has no substance at all. Just a bunch of talking over samples from artists that create melodies and rhythms. All these stupid rhymes talking about nothing. I wonder if Sergio did it for the $.
Rock 'n roll is king; the rest is GARBAGE. Rappers are a bunch of thugs from the ghetto with talent for rhyming about their "bitches and hos". Brazil doesn't need that American negative shit.
ROCK N ROLL IZ NEGATIVE they talk about sudicide n murderin ur mother garbage more deathz are because of ROCK but listen ROCK waz better in the 60'z like rolling stone,Little Richard among otherz besides that ROCK IZ TRASH SORRY DUDE!
$ isnt everythin but if they did than oh well listen to artists like: Nas,Common, 2pac, Biggie,Big L, Talib Kweli,MF Doom, Wu-tang,Eric B & Rakim,Gangstarr,MOP,mobb deep old albums, KRS-One,Blackmoon,Madlib,Pharcyde,MC Shan,UTFO,MC lyte, u get me listenin to Hip Hop is versatile u got to know the music dont talk negative if ur music iz the same also..one

Caio

No biggie.

Iurena don't diss hip hop like that. I know there's a lot of crap out there but you obviously haven't heard any good stuff.
Fattzb2006 5 years ago
Diss? Diss? Is that a word? Hey, ghetto boy, the word is "disrespect". I can't help it if you grew up listening to ghetto thugs making so-called "music".
TuneInTurnOnDropOut 5 years ago
lol, i didnt know that the type of music one listened determined the depths of their vocabulary. Would it be right of be to call you impeteous, inane, and perlacious. big words huh, oh yea i listen to rap
admarshall617 4 years ago
cool im glad you like rap, but did you mean impetus or impetuous? plz those wordz arent big one meanz impulsive, lacking knowledge, and perlacious just meanz pleasure hmm your right about what anyone listenz to but what TuneInTurnOnDropOut iz commentin about iz how rap iz crap and rock rulez, he believez rapperz are all ghetto, but ghetto iz factor of people who live in proverty, itz not a character you cant act ghetto just like you cant act black or white etc..
Naz187 4 years ago
man my comment was not directed at you and if it was recieved to you then apologized. i was actually agreeing with what you said. about rock and roll.

TuneInTurnOnDropOut 5 years ago
I think the same about rap, but this is the exception.. Sergio is fantastic
iurena 5 years ago
what music u like rock n they actually say something? uh nah they talk bout shit that aint real or make any sense, nuttin but loud annoyin noise
Naz187 5 years ago
Rock 'n roll is king; the rest is GARBAGE. Rappers are a bunch of thugs from the ghetto with talent for rhyming about their "bitches and hos". Brazil doesn't need that American negative shit.
TuneInTurnOnDropOut 5 years ago
ROCK N ROLL IZ NEGATIVE they talk about sudicide n murderin ur mother garbage more deathz are because of ROCK but listen ROCK waz better in the 60'z like rolling stone,Little Richard among otherz besides that ROCK IZ TRASH SORRY DUDE!
Naz187 5 years ago
I agree, rock was better in the 60s and 70s. Today's rock sucks but anything is better than rap.
TuneInTurnOnDropOut 4 years ago
