I have never yet acquired an ear for Shos´music but it is obvious, even from these photograpohs that he was " quite something ". Not a happy camper, though.
Shavkatikk when does Scnittke appear in the tape ?
Every time my pupils profess to know that all classical/orchestral music is 'dull' or 'boring', I close the curtains, put old footage of Stalingrad on the big monitor & play this full volume. Usually does the trick...
What a wonderful collections of pictures. You seem to have captured every emotion and as a result encapsulated Shostakovich's true personalty. I have to say, my favourite has to be the picture at 5:02 - it's not that often we get to see him laughing!......I am intrigued to know what's making him so amused!!! WELL DONE!
Wow. Those high string notes sound like the high notes in "Sleeping Beauty" when Aurora is walking to the spinning wheel following Maleficent's green orb.
@martinkoklingacik It's not dark. It's deep. It's so deep that it's dark. I would let both my hands amputated if that meant Shostakovich could write another symphony. I am not joking.
I watched the Sydney Symphony Orchestra play this a few weeks ago - i sat right behind the brass and percussion to get the full force of it blasting through me - if you haven't seen it played live ( along with Symphony No 11 ) then you haven't lived!
Shostakovich uno de los mejores compositores de la era sovietica y del siglo 20, simplemente una musica perfectamente arreglada y estilizada, nunca te olvidaremos compañero!!
Its such a pity we have no interviews or quality footage of him but these photos are really interesting andthe next best thing visauly thank you for this
This is a universe of pain and screams brought down from heaven as music! This is something which is so human...it is behind human. It is THE PROTEST OF GOD!!!
wrong answer... why shouldnt he "give a giant mind and soul like this"? it absolutely does not matter what political background he has.. on my opinion..
It is, and its amazing how a change in tempo and a different conductor can take some thing he wrote and make it sound light while abother brings out the darkness.
So much feeling, some is just crap written for political reasons, some is political but hidden in layers that makes you think and question.
Sometimes it feels like he is speaking directly to me threw his music.
We have something the common. The admiration for D. SHOSTAKOVICH. He is my beloved Composer. I hear his Music daily (from 1970 until today). A lot of photographs that you present are very infrequent. Thousand thanks!
Thanks a lot, I've known this piece for years but I have never found out the composer; anyway, I am pretty sure that when I was 10 I didn't know who Shostakovich was :)
Fascinating, thank you.

The eighth especially is not a symphony for intellectual sissies. Here Shotakovich slaps us in our ears with the absurdity and horror of war. Genius.
