  • I was in the Corps at Texas A&M, and I met one Citadel guy once... during Airborne School at Fort Benning in 1973. He was a GREAT guy. The Citadel is obviously a fine place, and those who experience the program there are WINNERS.

  • these men are heroes ...they die for their country ! ive seen some documentaries when they are in battle they face bombs, bullets and everyday they are prepared to die with honor.

we heard bad news also like how they take some men and torture them

how they molest their fellow(women) cadets etc...

i just hope all the soldiers out there serving their country will always carry conscience and a prayer in their hearts to avoid corruption and inhumanty

  • 2000 here one of the best days of my life

  • RAH VIRGINIA MIL!

  • What is the difference between Citadel "bracing" and VMI "straining"

  • He Citadel ppl,

I am a VMI Cadet and have a question. I was curious if you could tell me if i have this correct. Citadel forms you more into a company bond whereas VMI forms you into a class? Thanks for the help.

    VMI Class of 2012

  • @subcap90 go suck a dick bitch

  • @Kicker0131 And this ladies and gentlemen is the sort of fine young men that you will find at the Citadel... unprofessional little kids playing dress up

  • @subcap90 okay let me ask you something...where did vmi get there uniforms from? "straining?" rats? im pretty sure yall didnt think of that all by yourselfs, you only have to do one semester of your "rat" year we have to go through a year of pure hell...thats why the citadel makes better soon to be officers and civilians for the U.S and why we are better known around the U.S, VMI is known for trying to be like The Citadel

  • @Kicker0131 The Citadel was founded three years after VMI.

  • They always say its not hazing its "MILITARY INSTRUCTION" so to speak...

  • does every knob have to wear the Army ACU or does it depend on your ROTC?

  • @gibsonlesfan14

This is the end of the 4th class system. It's known as Recognition Day because it's the day that the freshmen are recognized as fellow cadets by the upperclassmen after nine months of being the lowest pieces of shit on the face of the earth.

  • @sierra043 This is foolish, self indulgent hazing.

  • @DonMeaker it's how it is. i'm going through it right now, and i'm not complaining.

  • @leklek69 well you can just stop using our laguage our website our internet our everything!

  • what exactly are they doing in this video?

  • I've read several comments and I've had enough...If you haven't experienced the Citadel for yourself then you have no right to critize us...if you have and still believe that its your duty to trash talk the institute then shame on you...the Citadel requires a specific individual...only the strong survive if you will, and normally those that speak ill of the corps quit long before they could reach REC. DAY...God Bless the Corps and God Bless the Class of 2013 and those preceeding

  • @TheMTMurphy After all if you were not a concentration camp guard, you have no right to criticize... No wait, if you were not in the Gulag, you have no right to criticize... no wait, if you were not on a prison ship in the Revolutionary War, you have no right to criticize.... No wait, if you were not at Andersonville in the Civil War you have no right to criticize...

    See how dumb that is?

  • Haha, you 11 smacks. Alpha Pride. 0A9. -Siler

  • okay can someone explain to me what exactly is happening here im so lost

  • its called Rec day its at the Citadel, a military college in Charleston, SC. Basicly the 'Knobs', the freshmen become upperclassmen after a full 2 semesters of extreme boot camp type year.

  • Ohhhh i get it...thanks

  • this rec day was weak sauce, I got hammered drunk the night before, got 3 hours of sleep, I was drunk until 1030 am. Still participated in everything while there were knobs who couldnt keep up....and ended it at noon. Thank you Col. Stone

  • is this at west point?

  • THE CITADEL!

  • ah... west point is for pussies this is the real military college

  • End of 4th class system? Does that mean all that stuff they do to the 4th class cadets at The Citadel has ended now or did they graduate?

  • do u get bitched at all of freshmen year or does it die down a little mid year or something?

  • most start to get board with it, but after Christmas break the sophomores are aloud to start so it is refreshed after the first semester.

  • its all year

  • As an individual who experienced the 4th class system at its best and worst, I would like to point out a couple of things. First, Cadets are volunteers, and can leave at anytime. Second, poor leadership exist in all walks of life. Third, the Citadel, like any other Military school, is a leadership lab, training young men and women, how to make good decisions, when the cost of mistakes is smaller than someones life. God bless, The Citadel, and the Class of 2001.

  • It's Alpha company class of 2011. The camelback's are for holding fluid, and 1stInLine1979, I agree with everything you said. There are examples of good and poor leadership within the corps and it's graduates but I wouldn't trade the education that I'm getting here for anything.

  • Its not about hazing. It is about breaking an individual down to the bare minimum then rebuilding the class as one. It is not to take away your individuality, it is to build bonds and a strong team work ethic among your classmates. Yes, the methods are somewhat unorthodox, but they all have a purpose and there is no other way to truly accomplish the previously mentioned goal.

  • What are the camelback's for? I don't remember having those back in the old corps

  • its not hazing... its tradition...

  • no you fucking retard its not tradition, this stuff didn't come about till the late 80's, it was never apart of the corps until then...you're brainwashed like all the other douchebags here

  • i think they have heavy duty bags in their bags and they were spent a lot of time of carrying it.. may be an hour.. not 1 hour, maybe 2 or 3?

  • Is this suntzu dude still at it. He was all over youtube el cid videos

just admit it man you got ran out. its ok.

  • I just had my Recognition Day this past weekend, best day ever. Which company is this in this video?

  • that looks really intense. recognition day is a really big deal. my boyfriend is getting close to recognition day. i've never been more proud of him, as I am knowing how hard he's worked at the Citadel. ♥ those boys!!!!

  • "and suffer if need be..." 05'

  • The funny thing is as an 01' grad I learned that nothing in life is handed to you through the system you shun. I learned how to succeed and grow through trying times and be a true leader. These skills have allowed me to become the youngest DOS in my field, working for the only company thriving instead of shrinking. If you are ever in Las Vegas please do not hesitate to let me know and i will be happy to show you my successes and explain to you how The Citadel directly laid the foundation.

  • mikehh, sorry for maybe stupid question. i guess you know the answer what the guys from this video are doing? is it some kind of a tradition? thanx in advance.

  • It's Recognition Day. The Day "Knobs" are recognized by the upperclassmen and the ending of the 4th class system.

  • What credentials do you have to claim that hazing takes place at the school? Are you a grad- did you attempt to wear the ring and not succeed? Have you heard stories and passed judgement? What is your opinion of the final product of the school? What are your qualifications to deem the school unfit for producing leaders? Please dont use news clips from over a decade ago when women first came to the school.

  • so which is it 20 or 25 years- and if you choose not to divulge your age why would you lie about it in your profile. Do you care to divulige how you have all the inside knowledge of my school?? With 20 (or 25) years in you must be high ranking NCO or a high ranking officer- care to let us know what your rank is so we can offer the proper respect?

  • looks like bracing and hazing to me and is proof positive that this place is so screwed up that they do not know what in the hell they are doing. places like this should be shut down because that is NOT leadership and does not instill GOOD qualities. this comes from a combat veteran of over 20 years of service.

  • if you have 20 years of service why does your profile say your 28??

  • i have been on-line and working in the engineering field as well as working on research projects for 28 years.

i prefer not to divulge my age but needless to say that i have served for over 25 years now.

the point still remains that hazing is NOT conducive to instilling the proper form of discipline, professionalism and military ethic necessary for defense of the country.

  • Shut the hell up, goddamn..

  • is that how you the citadel teaches you to talk to your superior officers? if so, then maybe you deserve a real ass kicking from a combat veteran

  • I did not go to the citadel, and you are not my superior officer, so..SHUT THE HELL UP!

  • haha, this suntzu guy seems a little ignorant and hypocritical. I don't think an "ass kicking" just like your "hazing" will teach anyone "discipline"

  • Bracing and hazing instilled many GOOD qualities into me, and I'm proud of the system I endured. Get a life.

  • do you work in the real world now? if so, do you treat your employees this way?

do you serve in the military as an officer? do you treat your junior soldiers in this manner while training for a mission or even while out on patrol?

  • I apologize, I was drunk when I wrote that. I do not believe that hazing in itself is an effective training strategy. However, I feel that the hardships I endured during my knob year brought me closer to my classmates. Furthermore, I feel that being put in those high-intensity situations helps prepare someone to make decisions in stressful situations in the future.

  • there are MUCH better ways of motivating young soldiers who are 18 - 22 years old and the use of threats, force, or hazing is NOT one of them. as a junior officer i was taught that you must act as a leader in a professional manner and rely upon your non commissioned officers BUT exercise some semblance of wisdom, fairness, and military leadership style to achieve the missions assigned. i understand perfectly the comraderie endured by this system, but one must regard it as an internal discipline

  • You just don't get it.

The "Hazing" that used to go on ended years ago. I would explain it to you, but you are already set in your ways. To constantly come to a video of a school you never attended and attempt to belittle is childish at best. What are you jealous of?

  • actually you are the one who "does not get it".

jealousy? i have nothing to be jeaous about. this is still HAZING and is NOT a part of the professional military service serving America today. as for you explaining ANYTHING to me , you have NOTHING to offer that is of ANY value.

the simple fact is that in warfare people get killed and the American military needs leaders who will NOT waste lives needlessly because the dead cannot be resurrected and brought back to life!

  • I truly feel sorry for you to pass judgement on many based on a very few.

What you are witnessing is not hazing. Get a clue.

  • If there is nothing to offer then get off the video's of our school that you are spamming.

If your know it all so well and a grad is not worthy to shine your shoes then go take a valium and make the world a better place- like i said my .02 is that you got ran out. You have a sharp axe to grind.

regardless of what you say I will wear my 01 ring till i die with pride and profit from my experiences at el cid.

You will continue to waste time trashing something you feel has no value.

  • I too am an 01' grad, Golf ball here.

I work in the real world. I do not make those that work for me brace, walk 120, etc., etc. It is a system that instills discipline, pride, sacrifice and self-determination. I am not sure what you feel goes on inside the barracks and on the campus of The Citadel. Reading some of your comments though I think you have a very distorted view of what goes on, at best.

  • actually i do know a great deal abou the citadel and as a company commander i was assigned a lieutenant who was a graduate and was one of the most ate up individuals i had ever served with. he did not stay long with my unit and was eventually relieved of duty and later dismissed from the service and it was a good thing because otherwise he would have got his whole platoon shot up for nothing. that is/was my professional opinion.

  • And as we all know everyone is perfect. Every system designed achieves it's purpose. There is never an exception to the rule. Come on man. You pass judgement on one guy you have come in contact with? That is ignorant at best. You can take grads from every military college and you will have turds in them. That is just how it is.And on the other side of the coin you will get guys who just get by with their GED's become great leaders in the world, military and civilian world.

  • i did NOT expect everyone to be PERFECT as a company commander. however, i did expect my platoon leaders to take RESPONSIBILITY for their actions and the actions of his/her unit. i am NOT alone in my professional opinions of citadel graduates because a number of my fellow officers have had junior officers from this institution who did NOT perform as expected. in all truth and honesty the best junior officers from my experience were prior service enlisted soldiers who KNEW how to LEAD.

  • Now it turns into some of your fellow officers feel the same way about other grads from the school. How convenient to add all this now.

I to can add things a good counter argument, but I don't need feel the need to embellish my stry to make a round peg fit a square hole.

  • learn how to SPELL and to THINK first. as a professional soldier it often becomes extremely useful to learn how to THINK for oneself. in my PROFESSIONAL opinion the graduates of this institution of the south were some of the worse officers i had ever had to work with. their vanity, arrogance and self assuredness often times got them into trouble and was evident in their leadership abilities in the field and in garrison. i was neither impressed NOR confident with these young men.

  • I missed a couple of o's, sorry prof. It's funny how you have a misspelled word, and the caps issue, lol. You know you have a good argument going when you start the thing off with picking at typos.

While I am sure there were/are some bad leaders that were in the military from The Citadel, I can gaurantee the good far outweigh the bad. Again, you get good and bad leaders from all walks of life, educational backgrounds etc. To think otherwise and discredit Citadel grads is ignorant at best.

  • @suntzu1985 So how much time did you spend there?

It sounds to me like you're basing your generalizations on your observations of a single graduate. These observations came while you were a JO and it appears you still have not outgrown your arrogance. If your subordinates fail, YOU fail.

  • @checksixfurball there are several of my fellow officers within whom I have met and served with in 4 combat tours of iraq, afghanistan and the persian gulf campaign of 1990-1991 who have not been impressed with the graduates of this institution of the south. therefore, it is not just my professional opinion, there are at least 5 other O-5s and O-6s. you confuse 'arrogance' with informed experience!

  • @suntzu1985 This is not informed experience: "as for you explaining ANYTHING to me , you have NOTHING to offer that is of ANY value."

The fact that I'm prior enlisted does not make me a good officer any more than having graduated from "this institution of the south" would make me a bad one.

  • @checksixfurball if you are an enlisted soldier, sailor, airman or marine do you really think this is a good method of motivating soldiers? in my 29 plus years of service my PROFESSIONAL experience tells me otherwise!

  • @suntzu1985 Also, if you're 29, you were not an officer in the gulf war.

  • @checksixfurball as with nearly everything regarding the internet I maintain my personal information CONFIDENTIAL but I have seen combat in several campaigns.

  • lmao ...hahahah when did there system ever start

  • Hey fellas, im thinking about going to the Citadel. What are the admission standards like? ACT scores? SAT scores? GPA?

  • canipe and white, yall my boys we made it through the year

  • Way to go dixiejoe! This is awesome.
