Using ableton were u able to separate each track on the chemcial bros song? In other words how were u able to play around with one layer(the vocals) without effecting the beat of the song?

@abe217 the vocals is taken from one part of the song and the music from another part. So there are two tracks that are not dependent each other. Then the usual split track into clips then follow actions.

that's really impressive! how much programming/manual writing was necessary to use it like a midi controller like that? I've heard these devices are fairly complicated to use like that

I cant remember exactly but I think I wrote this edition in an evening, so just a couple of hours. Since then I've re-written several times.

So overall a couple of nights. The real problem was learning the ChucK syntax and figuring out how I wanted the app to work.

Yes it is. But I think I'm describing grids. Thats is 8 buttons chooses what the other 56 buttons do. :)

The monome is a dumb keyboard with buttons and lights.

To use it with music-applications you need a application in your computer that works as an interpreter. In this case I've written one in the language called ChucK.

How did you do that with ChucK ?

I tried interfacing the Monome with FL Studio by ChucK but there is strange delay issue, the notes are even sometimes eaten ! (I use a virtual MIDI cable like MAPLE or MIDIYOKE).

Could you post the Chuck app. please ?

Nice work. What max/msp patches did you need to get Ableton & the 40h communicating to do what you're demonstrating? Neat demo though, I'm tempted by the new series, although being new to Monome I'm not sure if the 256 might be a bit overkill to start with.

For this I didn't use any max/msp patches. Instead I've coded a small app in ChucK that talks with Ableton and the Monome.

256 is might expensive too. I would wait a month or two until the 64 comes along.

Ohh no no. The monome is a dumb little thing with buttons. You, or others, have to code stuff for it. Thats what Iäve done here.
