@baller4life03 try the marathon in California, its insane. Theres ppl running in the intense heat up in the mountains with low oxygen. its so hot that the runners have to stay on the white lines of the road just to keep their shows from melting and if you stop for a second your immediately disqualified.
"Every year thousands of people gather together in a cold, wet, muddy field, to run across an extreme assault course for 4 hours. Why? I have no idea."-Dzillaa
Sorry, but they don't run, they mainly walk and sometimes trot. They possibly couldn't anyway because there are way too much participants. The organization should have made (more) series to avoid overcrowding the circuit. At least, in a marathon you usually have the chance to run as much as you can after start point.
Does anyone know if any of the workers there supply water along the way (water to drink lol) very important for me i have to stay hydrated! doing it this july 31st
My prof told the class about how his niece did this challenge last year. (We're in Canada) none of us could believe this was an actual event!! Now that I've looked it up I know that he wasn't full of crap!
Hey, I was wondering what KIND of tough this is? I'm quite a skinny guy (i.e. not that strong) but I have loads of energy and stamina. Since there isn't any kind of lifting (apart from pulling yourself up some stuff at some points) it seems like I'd be able to do this.
This course looks tough. I run stuff like this, except in super hot weather. My best marathon is 3:48:00. Best half marathon is 1:37:00. I would run this if I had the chance. By the way, what day do they run this in. Winter?
@redk78 hi, im 13 and doing on 24/9/10, i did it last year at 12 and trust me it is EFFORT, if you wanna be prepared i would advise going cross country, i go to air cadets as we do alot of running there so we can raise money for charity.
I would advise to go with some friends for more support, if your 17+ then you have to sigh a death warrant but dont let this put you off.
@redk78 This is how I train for winter toughguy. Only short runs - 6 - 7 miles.
Lots of hill running. Repeat running up hills. lots of pull ups and press ups so you can pull your own body weight. Run the 6 - 7 miles in shorts and break through the ice to get into rivers, submerge yourself then carry on with run. The first winter one I did I got hyperthermia and severe nerve damage to both hands (still cant feel em -see my video) - next time I prepared better, vaseline and came 250th ish
Im lookin to do this in 2011. What training does anyone recomend. ive done a half marathon in 2hrs 10 and full marathon in 5hrs 45. its not as if theres an assault course anywere. any advise, tips would be welcome
@redk78 I'd recommend running a marathon in shorts through an icy marsh, and climbing over a barbed wire fence. Thats the only thing thats realistically gonna prepare you.
@redk78 I trained by running through woods in deep snow, plunging into a chest-deep stream full of mud and branches and wading up it for 200 metres or so :-)
@redk78 you must acclimatise your body to the cold, you'll be swimming across icy pools, and then you get out and the breeze feels even colder, the cold is very good at taking your strength away from legs and grip, take cold showers and swim outdoors (SAFELY)

@redk78 it does help being a good runner no doubt.... but you dont get to do much running as the bottle necks prevent it and the crowds.. the cold icy conditions is all you need to worry about.. hyperthermia and muscle cramping is what will get to ya.. good luck may go 2011 aswell
@redk78 Its not the cardio endurance that hurts its the cold, the obstacles can be so draining when your muscles don't function because its so cold. I recommend fell running or up hills cross country whilst doing press ups in streams. cold showers every day will help.
big up every 1 that finished tg 2010 i hav dun 5 ironMan races b 4 and tg is hard 2 get ur head round in the cold and ice--- c u all next year front squad 4 me this time 1hr 55min 2 beat.................
A real tough guy at my school tried this - I think he was coming 4th, about a mile from the end when he fell unconcious. We all thought he was gonna come in the top ten. It's a shame.
Agree with you calgacvus, I did this years in 2.22 so many more "weak females" were tougher than me!. A weak female actualy stopped to help me out the vietcong tunnels when my legs cramped up. So thanks begaw25 if that was you.
my friend trained almost nothing and did it in 1:57 i took 2:27 but trained a lot more then him, but yeah i would say everybody who can run about 12 km, and is total mad can finish the race,
My son did it and I am so proud of him. Any body who completed that deserves respect. Maybe the UK isn't quite dead yet. Stuff the nanny state, this is proof that we still have some guts. Well done everybody who was involved in this.
as a female who completed the course on sunday, I would just like to say that your statement is not only idiotic, but goes against the encouraging team attitude of the event.
Tough Guy is not your standard "sporting" event. there is no prize for 1st place, everyone who completes it gains the same respect- whether 1st or last. This brings back loads of memories!... I spotted myself at 8:36 trying to get up the last hill... then epic fail at 8:50 sitting on my knees!... drained at this point... but what a day!... defo be back next year!... Thanks for the video! bought back plenty of memories :D

Hi i took part in this yesterday and would love to have a copy of this clip. I've placed an order for the DVD but would you be kind enough to email this to me as well if I give you my email address. It was a tough challege but fantastic. Cheers
I've run a marathon...not in under 3 hours (I'm an old man) but IMO this was *much* harder. For the marathon I just got into "the zone", and kept a rhythm going. There is NO possibility of getting a rhythm on this, and when you have to force yourself into yet *another* freezing chest-deep pond when you haven't even started to thaw from the last one, or climb a cargo net when you can feel any of your extremities, you realise how tough it is.
Brilliant video, really captured the event well, missed out the underwater section which was a killer, you can see me my mates at 0:16 the burton toughguy team! cheers for posting this
Bloody good effort on the camera...catches the spirit of the event very well. Well done Andy, Seb, Nick, me and the support crew, who really "willed" me through the last big lake!
Absolutely awesome. I took part and loved every second, although I've never been as cold as I was then. Back for more next year. Great vid, shows the course well. shame it doesn't show the full water submersion at the tunnel or the bomb jump.
Excellent vid man. . . . that Mr Mouse is one sick mother. . . !Big up to Charlie Dooley. . Andy Ellis Tourlogh Phillip Me and all the other crazy fools. See yas all next year ay!

Absolutely awesome. I took part and loved every second, although I've never been as cold as I was then. Back for more next year. Great vid, shows the course well. shame it doesn't show the full water submersion at the tunnel or the bomb jump.

Whoever did the video must have done 4+ miles running - well done.
@3:18 the 10 reps up the steep hill were just horrible. More training for 2011 needed!

Great vid, well done. The 3 dips underwater were beyond horrible. I got round on stubborness rather than fitness after that.

Great video. You summed up the day perfectly. There's even a millisecond of me. Thanks

This video doesn't show the bit where you go underwater. That's the bit where it changed from fun to just ridiculous
