Don't think she was more experienced, just smoother. I like to ride behind more experienced riders because I learn things like better corner entry, etc. An experienced rider up front will set a reasonable pace whereas an inexperienced rider may try to ride above his abilities.
Actually, some people think that the more experienced rider should be in the back. This allows the group to move at a pace comfortable for the least experienced rider...
