I love this movie, but I'm a bit confused with what the Scientist wanted the Stitchpunks to do? Why did he give them the talisman, if the talisman awakens the Fabrication Machine (B.R.A.I.N.) in the first place and terrorize them again? Is it part of the plan, to have them resurrect the machine, have them killed, then defeat the machine and have the souls freed to bring life back to Earth? Pls help. :)

I liked bioth the short and the full length movie. I'm glad that 9 wasn't the only one left on the Earth in the movie, because I thought it sucked that he was all alone at the end of the short. It was also sad when 5 died, in both the short and the movie. He and 9 had a really strong friendship in the short, and they were pretty close in the movie as well. Not to mention 5 was my favorite character in the movie... :(

the movie(well,the first part) is almost exactly like this,no one start complaining about burton ruining it or whatever,he used almost all of this in the movie.really,this stays as true too the original as i can imagine possible without becoming boring(this wouldnt be good if it was spread over 2 hours)

@spazobot2000 dude. the guy did all this on his own. he spent 2 years making this, with low-tech animating equipment. He didnt have the time or the resources to make it all beautiful.

@TheGatoChile That makes sense. But I was just thinking before I saw your comment that it might work better as a series. It's hard to fit the whole epic story into a ten-minute short, which is why a movie would make sense to fit more in. Even though it was disappointing, it had its moments. If they had done a miniseries, each episode could have been one great moment like the short. That way, you would have time to get the whole story, but divided into a bunch of great, smaller stories

Gotta LOVE LOVE LOVE the originality. Like an old western where you don't need dialogue because everything else is so well put together. To add dialogue would only interupt your mind from feasting on everything else thats going on. Only wish I wasn't so spoiled by HD - my eyes kinda hurt from staring so hard at the blurry picture, hahaha. Worth it though.

I thought the 2009 movie of 9 was great. But I admit it did not succeed to be a triumph over this 2005 short film. Although I bought the movie for this short version of 9 that was on the DVD. Still a nice try though of expanding 9 into a full length 80 minute future.

Spoiler-- It's a well done short film about an evil monster that steals the souls zipper guys and the hero outsmarts him, steals the soul stealer, then frees all the souls.

How this is difficult to understand is anyone's guess.

Maybe if the movie had subtitles.

The short and the movie are kinda different, but both have similar factors. The movie and the short are in a post apocalyptic setting, as will as dealing with rag doll figures escaping machinery. The short doesn't have a major plot, which is why it could be confusing to many, but the movie has one. But they aren't totally linked together, so watching the movie then watching this may not help much.

@2004narusasu I just saw it and quite enjoyed it. It's set after an interesting backstory where a different version of world war 2 involved artificialy intelligent machines which eventually wipe out all people, allies, axis, neutrals, whatever. The ragdoll looking creatures are actually machines aswell but their creator used the homonculos magic from alchemy to imbue them with his soul. They represent what's left of humanity. Toy Story meets Terminator with a bit of War of The Worlds and Wall-e.

@Blunder1248, it was created to hunt down anything that was alive. In the film that aspect of the story is more fully expanded as the "Mother" machine acquires human like qualities but evil toward them.

@TheWhiteDreamsOfLife In basic Terms: There is a predator(the cat like thing) that hunts dolls such as "9" and "5" and sucks their souls/essence out of their bodies. 5 understands this and is caught trying to protect the "key" that enables them to free the captured souls. Eventually 9 catches the predator and steals the "container" filled with the souls of all his lost friends and using the "key" frees them so that they can finally be at rest. And thats where the film ends.

This is the most awe-inspiring short I have ever seen. I could enthuse for hours on any number of the amazing qualities that went into it; the depth of imagination, the use of expression, the plot, the sound effects, the horrible toe-curling fear I feel every time that beautifully designed monster appears. Absolutely breath-taking! It's such a shame that Tim Burton couldn't quite match this guy's talent.

The film had "so much potential" but utterly failed for me. I love this short, and the trailer for the film, but the feature was disappointing. He should have simply re-done the short, with the addition of voice, ten extra minutes (instead of an hour), and better graphics. This is a good short. But the movie was dull and unimpressive with so little actual character development I barely had time to get attached to a character before they died. I always love his style though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but some of my best titles on my shelf never even made it into theaters, or were at limited showings.  Hollywood is so stuffed full of themselves, their lifestyle and being spoiled that even the directors that make it with great ideas at the beginning end up selling out. It's just the first rule of self preservation.
