two of my favourite players- those of you are saying one is better than the other are stupid because they are both incredible at what they do. jens died two weeks ago, he and tom were close friends- i suggest people listen to some of jens' albums, he was a phenomenal musician, and an incredible trumpet player, as is tom harrell

Do you know how many possible modes,scales and melodic or harmonic artifacts are used in jazz? They are using everything in this video not just one single mode. Man everytime I see this clip i feel so sorry for the Maynard looking dude. I mean I felt he was being disrespectful at times. Tom would take two beautiful choruses filled with life and many stories then dude man would play three or four and not say anything. Then at one point cut Tom off. I mean come on dude. Not to sound dark or anything, this has a very dark feel to it. I mean, it's in a dirty looking room and Tom is in all black standing alone in the corner. Everything sounds great though.

That's called Street Cred. I couldn't wait just to hear Tom play each time. There's one man who has 'mastered' jazz and changes and blowing. And then you have a Jazz Musician standing next to him; schooling him--giving him a master class. Tom's first two notes would be more profound; learned, lyrical, experienced, and thoughtful than the whole of the other guy's solo. My two cents. God bless Tom Harrell.

Well for my money the 'other' trumpet player is a strong player whose ideas don't sound too bad to me. Harrell is a phenomenon so comparisons are pointless. Great music.
