The Eritreans were Russian armed as well. Look at its lovely MiG 29s for example. A lot of their artillery and tanks came directly from ex-warsaw pact countries as well. Not just from collecting abandoned Ethiopian stuff. The death toll was not that high and today the BBC puts the estimate of total war dead to be at 70,000 from both sides combined.
