  • I'm not trolling this video or this product. But this is NOT what we were promised back in 2008... Its like being promised a flying car, and then given something made out of cardboard that resembles a flying car... Do a youtube search for GZR - D&D Insider Toolset Demo. 2D maps rendered in 3D space with fully 3D Rendered non-animated characters and monsters that you could customize their poses and looks, basically create your own virtual minis. Though SOMETHING is better than nothing I guess

  • @Lunar131313 Yeah... It's a hard punch to the face to anyone who saw that demo (ie freaking everyone). I was extremely interested in the custom mini thing.

Oh well. I don't *need* this thing, but if it had been what they showed at first, I would've subbed to D&DI anyway. :P

  • Jesus that mouse lag would of killed me

  • None of these tools are necessary. I prefer to the good old fashion way, which is 100 percent bug free.

  • do u hav to stay subscribed to d&d insider in order to keep virtual table?

  • @Goldengallardo That's kinda how a subscription works...

  • Very informative video. The virtual table looks cool. I like how you don't have to be in the same town to play a game. It will never be the same as being at the same table in person. That said, VT is a good alternative.

  • I hate the D&D website; I can't look at the character sheets, I can't use the builders, I can't do ANYTHING without signing up for an account which costs money monthly. Why the fuck does it cost money to have an account on a website like D&D?

  • @LeVaughnX Uh, because people will pay for it.

  • @philcolons1 Paying for merchandise is fine; and they have so much that they make a boat-load of cash already. Paying to have an account on a website that you'll only use once a week maybe or once a month to check up on some updates is retarded. There is no way in hell anyone with half a brain would actually pay the ammount D&D's website forces you to pay just to print out a few sheets of paper; no friggen way.

I want to try out D&D but I'm not going to support neo-nazi money hounds heh.

  • @LeVaughnX I've never heard of a company that was happy with having one boat-load of money when they could have two boat loads. Yes, if you only check the site once a month, you would need to be a retard or not give a shit about money to pay for it. I know one guy who pays for the site, and he really likes it. He's really into D&D, so he gets a fair amount of use from it. It does more than print out character sheets. If you don't want to support greedy nazis, avoid WOTC + DND.

  • @philcolons1 @LeVaughnX do you guys really know what your saying? "Why are they charging me for something they pay people to put online? Why not put the character sheets online for free so no one has to pay to buy DND?" then no money comes in, no updates. no improvements. downgrades. merchandising goes up. people are fired. bankruptcy. isn't this what happened to almost, if not all Socialist countries?

  • @3one7crew I never argued that it should be free. There is a demand for what they are supplying, and I was defending their right to charge for it. I call them greedy because they charge an exhorbant amount for the products they sell. Again, totally their right. I vote with my wallet and don't buy the shit I don't want to pay those prices for. I ain't mad.

  • @philcolons1 Oh... big difference. that just means someone else needs to come out with an amazing virtual table top game to start competition. then DND would do price lowerings so more people use there's more. then updates to be better then there rivals. in the end, we have happy customers. why does anyone hate competitive Capitalism?

  • Alright, I love fourth edition, but what about when fifth edition comes out? we as 4th edition lovers, need to decide now if we like the direction its going in. I'll probably get behind it so long as they improve upon what needs improvements. Keep at-wills and encounters in the very least, don't dig up level adjustment rules or spell resistance/immunity. I'd like to see being good at a skill reflect training more and less from your ability scores. What about you guys? What do you want from 5e?

  • this isnt the table from the D&D insider is it? If so, where did the 3d aspect go?

  • @mercnet1980

Do you have access to it if you subscribe to D&D insider? Isn't it *still* in Beta?

  • hopefully you will be able to import from caracter builder

  • so if someone got this, they wouldnt have to get any of the tabletop, dice , or minitures, just the rulebooks?

  • @Alastarsblade Basicly, you could even get my with just getting the rules compendium and a DDI subscription. Character builder and Monster builder give you access to most of the missing stuff

  • Can the computer be the dm?

  • @lpslpslpslpslpslps No one who has played both maptool and fantasy grounds would make that comment. I cannot help but dismiss your comment. Maptool is a nice product, but it is just a virtual battlemat, not a virtual tabletop.

  • Would only be useful at the game table if it could be run on Android or iPad tablets.

  • In comparison to the other virtual tabletops (VTT) on the market, this ranks fairly high. It's got some nice functionality and once they get integration down pat, will probably be the best VTT for 4E. Also, many of the VTT's on the market are still rather crude or have a long learning curve. This looks fairly polished and the interface is intuitive.

Having said that, this is a let-down. It beats out MapTool (which you'd expect, since MapTool is free) but doesn't beat out Fantasy Grounds.

  • @nonamesareleftt weird, given that maptool imo crushes fantasy grounds. I could give you a demo if you'd like -- I can't imagine the software + d&d 4e framework working better...

  • this looks horrible. truly truly horrible.

  • Fuck that. They made it look 100 times cooler 3 years ago. How fucking lame. I subscribed to DnD insider for 3 months waiting for it to come out and nothing. I'm upset at how bad it looks.

  • Hmmm appears they knocked off MapTools...

  • Thanks for the review...this looks great. Hopefully by the final release they can fix some of the rather odd omissions, like enabling import from their own character builder. But it looks like a great step in the right direction. I would definitely use this.

  • I'm rather disappointed especially after what the showed 3 years ago, you think their technology, would have become smoother and better looking, but this looks down graded quite severely, and Why do they not have it set up so you can import 4e character sheets, just why, how hard is it really, you people have had 3 years now

  • Maptools.

  • I really hope they dont charge for this given other software allows you to do this and more for free.

  • @TeeBeeNZ The other products aren't integrated with the character builder and monster builder. I'm assuming it's just going to be part of the DDi subscription.

  • Pretty interesting... from 0:30 onwards you can see a selection of rulesets to choose from. Strange indeed...

  • this is looking very good, im excited!

  • I'm really surprised to see more than 4e support =O

  • @AngelSwordAF yeah that is quite strange...it seems like when they moved edition they dropped everything in the previous edition, keeping hold of things that are owned by them of course, and yet this program supports other editions, strange.

  • eu quero um desses ahuahuhauuh

  • Thanks a million for posting this. Hopefully they will except me into the beta to try out this new software.
