It's kind of about how people expect you to pretend like you're happy, even when you're not for whatever reason. No, it does. Pay close attention to what exactly they're doing. Go watch Polsupah. Wasilewski, like Kubrick, has mastered the form of making the audience question themselves as to why they're laughing at something so sinister and dark. (Like Full Metal Jacket) The reason why it doesn't seem it fit is all the more reason why it does.
